Chapter 92: Victoria
His footsteps gradually faded away, and before long, I heard a faint door closing downstairs.
The room fell silent.
That irritating guy finally left!
I rushed into the bathroom in my bedroom, did my business, and then just stood dumbly in front of the bed for a moment. I squatted down and opened the box to start sorting through its contents.
Mostly clothes—dresses… whatever, just stuff them all into the wardrobe for now.
Then there were a few everyday items… a comb, hairbands, what’s this… moisturizer? Foundation? Why did I bring this along? This muscular guy doesn’t need such things… Anyway, let’s just put it on the dressing table…
Ah, this is a bath towel, it seems. And a toothbrush with bristles… spices? What’s that for, soaking in the bath? …and this is mouthwash… all these things go in the washroom.
Next, there’s a sanitary belt… liners, and a bra… the size is so small, it’s hard to look at… such intimate privacy items… let’s just hide them in the bottom drawer of the wardrobe… Carlos probably won’t rummage through it, right?
If he dares to dig around, I’ll pull him down by his ears.
After finishing all this, dusk started to set in.
The fatigue from the long journey washed over me, and I collapsed onto the soft bed, intending to rest until Carlos returned, but before I knew it, I fell asleep.
Time passed—who knows how long. In my hazy state, I heard singing.
“Take me… fly up to the moon…”
“Let me sing forever…”
I sat up, dazed, rubbed my eyes, and looked out the window.
The night was intoxicatingly dark.
Stars punctuated the sky, brightening the cold, ethereal milky way.
“Please hold my hand… and sing out loud in spring…”
The voice was both near and far, like a babbling brook of bossa nova, the ethereal female voice seeped into my ears, singing straight into my heart.
So beautiful… is it coming from next door?
At this late hour, who on earth is singing… it really is so beautiful, but… why does it sound somewhat sad despite its cheerful tune…?
I instinctively opened the window.
“I want to break free from this worldly cage… playing among the stars… let no one find me… let no one…”
The singing grew a bit clearer, the captivating melody had no accompaniment, like a girl whispering softly during the quiet night, sending shivers down my spine. If my senses weren’t so heightened, I might have missed this beautiful voice.
I closed my eyes for a bit longer, but it still felt too far away, not clear enough. So, I stepped onto the outer windowsill, glanced at the roof’s height, and then suddenly leaped up.
“Dear God… please grant my humble wish… take me to the moon…”
The voice was indeed coming from next door… I shouldn’t disturb them, just a sneak peek.
With my mind set, I crouched near the roof’s edge, tilted my head to think for a moment, and then nodded to myself.
The roof across wasn’t too far… I’ll just jump over.
Taking a deep breath, I stepped back two paces, then sprang forward, ducking into a dive.
Moon Step.
Whoosh—
A petite figure sprang high into the air, gracefully arcing under the moonlight, and as I began to descend, both hands released puffs of white mist, abruptly slowing my fall, and with a soft thud, I lightly landed on the roof of the next house.
Safe landing!
Using the Moon Step to jump for the first time went surprisingly well… I quickly crouched down and looked back, realizing I had leaped nearly twenty meters!
A little anxious, I shrugged my shoulders and stuck out my tongue… thankfully, it didn’t make any obvious noise; I should be undetected, right?
“Let my heart be filled with song… take me to the moon…”
Hearing that the song was still continuing, I patted my little chest and exhaled in relief, quietly taking two steps forward.
The voice was coming from the courtyard; where could she be…
Continuing to crouch, I tiptoed along the roof, my dark eyes darting around in search of the source of the song.
A light breeze brushed across my face.
The courtyard was lit with lanterns, the flickering flames casting a yellowish hue on the green lawn. Not far away stood a stone pavilion with a place for rest; it seemed to have red wine and fruit on a blue circular table surrounded by several neatly arranged rocking chairs. I noticed one swaying gently in the light, yet didn’t see anyone sitting there.
At the same moment, the singing abruptly stopped.
…What happened; where did she go?
The wind seemed to pick up slightly, ruffling my hair.
A sense of unease crept up on me, and I began to step back.
This feels a bit ominous… I should skedaddle.
The next moment, a deep male voice thundered beside my ear.
“…Let’s see, where did this little mouse come from?”
“Ahh—!!”
That nearly scared my soul out of me; I jumped up like a startled cat and instinctively punched backwards.
Whoosh—
That figure swiftly dodged my attack, slipping away with ease and saying, “Oh, seems like a little sister here…”
I widened my eyes in shock, focusing to see a green-haired man standing less than five steps away. His face was buried in darkness, obscuring his features. He wore a proper suit, with an emblem of a distinct pattern—was that a drawn sword? It looked familiar…
How did he get so close to me…
Click, click, click—
A chilling scythe swiftly materialized in his hand, glinting ominously in the night.
“Oh dear, the Frost Order! So scary, so scary~”
The green-haired man feigned nonchalance, patting his chest, but his words dripped with mockery.
“Who are you?”
“Aren’t we the ones who should be asking that, little sister?”
Another voice echoed from the darkness, and I whipped my head around.
In the courtyard, a woman had appeared without my noticing, gazing up at me… a smile on her face.
“Little sister, are you lost?”
“Hahaha, getting lost here is quite adorable.”
Then another voice joined in… from the right side, but I couldn’t see anyone.
“Little sister, do you know who lives here?”
“Would I have come if I did?”
“Good point…”
“Been a while since anyone dared to sneak in here, how exciting…”
“Now spill, who sent you?”
Voices came from all directions in the darkness.
I furrowed my brows, staying alert, and slowly lifted my hands.
“I mean no harm. I just heard the singing and wanted to see.”
“Ahahaha, this little one thinks we’re fools.”
“Shut up, don’t laugh so loud in my ear.”
“Hey. Enough chatter, let’s get rid of her?”
“Hold on, let’s figure this out.”
…It’s getting a bit noisy.
“I really just thought the song was lovely.” I slowly bent down, placing the scythe gently on the ground, “I’m a neighbor living next door.”
“…What did this little gal just say?”
“She said she lives next door, hahaha!”
“Who lives next door again?”
“Hasn’t it been empty for quite a while… wait, I remember, Her Majesty the Queen sold it to the church a while back…”
“Little sister, are you from the church?”
I nodded.
“I am, just arrived today, the Pope Knight.”
“Wait, really?”
“A Pope Knight? What a tiny girl!”
Suddenly, a voice came from above.
“Silvya?”
!!!!!!
My heart dropped, and I quickly looked up.
The moon was as bright as ice.
The sky appeared hazy as if wrapped in mist.
Amid the shadows, a blonde woman floated gracefully, her dress dancing without wind. Bathed in silvery light, her slender figure resembled a proud white lotus standing atop a mountain, beautifully reflected in my eyes.
Just like the song says, she floated to the moon.
I couldn’t help but swallow hard.
“You are…”
“Victoria.”
Her voice, as clear as a mountain spring, rang out.
