Chapter 92: The Sound of Killing
As soon as Isaac finished speaking, I jumped up from the beast’s back, one hand clutching the reins, one foot on the saddle, and I aimed for a less crowded spot on the wall, kicking off mightily.
Screech—
The giant beast beneath me let out a long cry, its hooves skidding as it continued to run forward, while I leapt over three meters high, forming a platform of ice beneath my feet just as I began to descend. With another jump, I landed on the top of the wall with a whoosh.
“Ahhhhh—”
Two people on my left screamed and charged at me, their faces fierce, almost n*ked, flames of infernal fire blaring on their skin, looking like bl**d-soaked demons fresh from a horror flick.
“Gross.”
I frowned and threw a straight punch at the approaching heretics, unleashing a gust of frost. The flame on their bodies extinguished in an instant, and as they stumbled forward a couple of steps, I watched in amusement as their legs, arms, chests, and heads became frosted, their n*ked bodies freezing stiff before they collapsed with a bang, shattering into pieces.
The atmosphere on the wall froze in shock.
“…Iris Cloak! It’s the Pope Knight—”
“What are you afraid of? We are the followers of the God of Truth! The power granted to us by the True God is unmatched! We are immortal!”
“Charge! k*ll her!”
“Burn the church’s minions!”
The heretics shouted and, after a brief moment of shock, surged toward me.
In the next instant, a dazzling blue light burst forth from my eyes.
“Get lost!”
The Frost Power whirled into action, a white fog of frost exploded under my feet, covering a twenty-meter radius of the wall in extreme cold. The charging heretics were engulfed in ice mist, their flames snuffed out one after another, their bodies turning into ice sculptures, none reaching me.
Seizing the moment, I took off the leather box from my back, opened the clasp, and pulled out Captain Gray, slinging the box back over my shoulder.
Crack, crack, crack—
Clang!
Gripping the hilt of the jet-black blade, I swung it downwards, and a massive scythe formed instantly.
Standing amidst the dissipating mist, I scanned the surroundings.
On the towering wall, dozens of lifelike ice sculptures held various poses—some standing, some toppled, a few shattered into pieces, all evidently very much dead.
Further away, the heretics, untouched by the ice mist, wore expressions of panic. Some held swords, while others had no weapons at all, their eyes bulging with fear and terror as they stared at me.
Unlike those who charged earlier, most remaining people were ragged and dirty, their clothes vaguely resembling the style of Silgaya, but long since torn and filthy, exposing bony chests and arms. Even without being caught in the ice mist, the rapidly cooling air made their teeth chatter and their brows frost over—yet, flames still burned in their palms.
One person pointed at me and shouted, “She… she’s the famous Silvya!”
“No way… we’re going to d*e here, run—”
Trying to run?
Crack!
An extreme icy scythe formed in my left hand, and I swung it at the fleeing heretics. Sharp ice spikes shot up like a fan, covering a large portion of the wall in sight. The ice spikes penetrated those who had dropped their weapons and were fleeing in panic.
“Ahhhhh—”
They screamed and struggled, their flames extinguishing, their bodies freezing before their bl**d could even flow out.
A chilling aura enveloped me as the temperature around continued to plummet.
On the other side of the wall, the huge Isaac resembled a golden sun, his iron fists swinging rapidly, the wind of his blows roaring, as he sprinted along the high wall, chasing down the fleeing heretics, looking like a bulldozer on a rampage. Almost no one he approached had any capacity to fight back—“whoosh”—sent flying into the air, contorted bodies crashing down from the wall, bl**d spraying everywhere.
Below the high wall, mounted knights charged into the shattered gates, storming toward the expansive square in the center of the castle, where many heretics were resisting. Flames flickered and soared, scorching the knights’ shields, which only rippled slightly. Armed and determined, the knights trampled forward, waves of bl**d surged, screams echoed endlessly, the heretics defending the square crumbled like frightened birds scattering in the wind.
“Mr. Weithermill—” someone on the wall cried out despairingly, “save us, save us!”
“He already abandoned us, fleeing by himself!”
“It’s over, we’re all done for…”
“Why are the Church Knights here?! Why—”
I leaped and landed on the empty lookout tower of the fortress, gripping my scythe and surveying the chaos below, my brows knitting together.
Something’s off…
Whoosh—
An arrow shot toward me. I turned my head just in time to see a heretic hiding behind the wall, reloading a crossbow. With a flick of my arm, an ice spike shot out, piercing his chest. He recoiled in pain, stumbling back two steps and accidentally tumbling off the wall.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh—
Suddenly, more arrows flew at me from all directions.
Hmph…
I raised my hand, unleashing blue light. A fierce icy storm formed around me, a tremendous vortex swirling, freezing countless arrows mid-flight, redirecting them upwards. Two managed to breach through and struck my light barrier, buzzing as they deflected away.
Hiding in the corners, there were many…
As the vortex subsided, I lifted my right hand above my head.
Crack, crack, crack—
Dozens of sharp ice spikes quickly formed overhead, and in the next moment, I swung my arm down. The spikes shot out in all directions toward the high wall, piercing through stone and wood, exploding with a bang. The chilling mist spread from the walls, and some people screamed as they escaped from their corners, their bodies riddled with ice fragments, soon freezing into silence, collapsing into the frost mist.
“Ah hahahaha—”
In the distance, Isaac’s thunderous laughter boomed. I instinctively looked over to see him practically cleaning the wall of any survivors within a hundred meters, other than a few twisted corpses. Many heretics flew from the high walls and crashed into the towers, crashing through eaves, with just their legs sticking out, spasming helplessly.
Meanwhile, the remaining heretics around me were now fleeing down the wall, scrambling in every direction.
“Squirt! Come take a look at the inner fortress with me—”
Boom!
Wrapped in golden light, Isaac leaped from the wall like a cannonball toward the square, his booming voice echoing, “Glorious knights! k*ll every last one of those with infernal fire, leave none alive!”
Bang!
The massive bald head landed, smashing a heretic attempting to attack him into a bloody pulp. Without pause, he transformed into a streak of golden light and charged into the knight brigade slicing through the remaining fleeing heretics.
“Isaac!”
An ice pillar suddenly shot up from under my feet, propelling me high into the air. Leaping onto the ice platform, my small frame zipped through the air, catching up to Isaac’s height, exhaling icy mist to slow my momentum as I landed beside him.
“Something feels… off!” I shouted at him.
“What’s off? Let me get comfortable first!”
He flexed his wrists and neck, quickening his pace as he knocked down a flame-wreathed heretic. Just then, another weak-looking man charged at him, flame swirling around his skin, his body inflating rapidly.
“Watch out—”
Boom!
A violent explosion erupted before my eyes, flames and rubble flying as I braced myself. At the instant the blast reached me, my eyes glimmered faintly blue, and a thick wall of ice erupted from the ground, blocking the searing heat right in front of me.
d*mn heretics, with their self-destructing tricks…
“Baldy!”
I knew he’d be fine, but couldn’t help worrying, calling out from behind the ice wall.
Boom! Boom! Bang—
The sounds of battle erupted across the square; the thundering hooves of beasts and roars rang out, weapons clashed, debris crashed, chaos and screams filled the air. Under the dreary rain curtain, the mixed noise became unbearable. In the fiery light ahead, billowing black smoke rose slowly into the sky, the air growing fraught.
Standing atop the ice wall, I called out, “Stinky rats—”
Emerging from the dissipating smoke and fire, Isaac held up a head triumphantly and hurled it at a nearby shadow, knocking it down. His massive body followed suit, crashing like a golden meteor into the remaining resisting heretics, his sword slicing down resplendently, bl**d bursting forth as bodies were cleaved in half.
“Surrender, we surrender—”
In the square, a man raised his hands and fell to his knees, his voice trembling and cracking as he shouted desperately.
“Spare me, Knight! We’re not heretics, spare me—”
“I’m from Silgaya! We’re the church’s people! Lord! We’ve been oppressed by demons—”
“I don’t want to d*e, I don’t want to d*e—”
More people dropped their weapons and knelt, their flames extinguished in the rain, revealing their ragged, emaciated bodies.
But the next moment, those who knelt were cut down by their comrades beside them, or crushed with flame-enshrouded hands, not even able to scream as they crumpled in the rain.
“Don’t forget what you’ve done!” the one who had just done the killing screeched, almost going insane, “You’ve already become followers of the God of Truth! The church can’t tolerate you anymore! There’s no way out! k*ll these hypocritical knights in front of you! Ah hahahaha—”
Whoosh—
I shot out an ice spike, striking true into his forehead, solid ice bursting out from the back of his head, his deranged laughter cut off instantly as he slumped down, twitching a few times into silence.
In the castle stained with bl**d and fire, the brawl continued on. The knights spread out from the square, cutting down fleeing heretics with brutal efficiency, hoisting their bodies with their spear tips before dropping them heavily, more and more heretics fell into pools of bl**d, and the knights soon aimed for their heads, piercing down, extinguishing any flames in mere moments.
“d*e, knight—”
I rushed in, stomping on the ice and kicking away a heretic blocking my path, just then someone lunged at me from the side. I turned to see a terrifying face, ablaze with fire.
The heretic raised his hand, a fierce wave of infernal fire bursting forth toward me.
I did not dodge but charged straight through the flames, my right hand flashing with frigid light, Captain Gray swept across and beheaded him, yet that headless body continued its momentum and crashed into my shield with a bang, rapidly swelling.
Mother of…
Boom—
In the instant the flames erupted, I leapt back with Moon Step, retreating over ten meters and avoiding the explosion. The scorching wind whipped at me as the protective layer shattered, dissipating into faint light.
d*mn it.
Boom!
An ice pillar shot up beneath me again, propelling me onto the fountain statue in the square, and I shouted at the top of my lungs, “Citizens of Silgaya! Drop your weapons, cease resistance, and I’ll spare you!”
“They’re not noble knights; they’re just a bunch of hypocritical executioners! k*ll them, Mr. J will reward you with food, women, and even greater powers—”
“k*ll them—”
The chaos drowned out my weak call, in the next moment, a chilling wind roared in from the distance.
