Chapter 217: Divine Battle (Part Four)
The ground trembled with a continuous rumble, rocks shuddering underfoot as violent shaking made it hard to stand. In the distance, thick, dark red liquid spilled down the steep cliffside like overboiling soup, bl**d waves crashing ominously like molten lava scorching the mountainside. Everywhere it passed, white mist steamed and swirled about, rising toward the gray sky above.
“Run!”
The dancer’s low voice came from ahead, a faint golden light shimmering around her. With her hands clasped in a prayer pose, she urged, “Now’s the time, while there’s still time!”
My scalp prickled with uneasy excitement.
“Is that… the Goddess of Sin?”
In that instant, thoughts whizzed through my mind like a rollercoaster ride. Did I fail? Were the bl**d pearls I destroyed fake? Was I too late? Was this all over…?
Before I could spiral further, the dancer’s sharp command jolted me back to reality.
“Move! Grab the branch of the white tree, GO!!”
Buzz—
A divine miracle’s brilliant golden light poured down from the endless sky, streaming through the falling ashes. It illuminated the charred, trembling earth, revealing the wolfdog fairies huddling in dark corners, shriveling in fear, too paralyzed to move a muscle.
RUMBLE RUMBLE RUMBLE…
The massive, dull booms continued, and countless huge boulders began to plummet from the air, crashing to the ground. Amidst the scene that felt like the apocalypse, I spotted the dancer in a red dress leaping forward, white feathers spinning around her, wrapped in golden radiance, streaking towards the mountain peak.
What is she up to…?
“Wait for me!”
I shouted, flames unfurling from my wings as black mist surged forth. With a thunderous bang beneath my feet, I shot into the gray sky like a cannonball, cutting across the eerie gazes of countless fairies as I pursued the dancer’s figure towards the chaotic peak.
Buzz buzz buzz buzz…
The humming of the divine miracle engulfed the howling gale, and I hardly managed to chase for about a hundred meters before the brilliant golden light nearly blinded me. I raised a hand to shield my eyes, my speed slowing significantly, and soon, the dancer’s form vanished into the radiant glow.
Where did she go…?
d*mn it…
Can someone please tell me what the heck is going on right now?!
Boulders crashed down from above, and I dodged just in time, my heart racing as I struggled against the suffocating light. I pressed on, my tiny figure continuing to ascend until I flew over the towering rock peaks and hovered in midair.
It’s so hot…
The air blowing against me was at a temperature that was no joke.
I raised my hand over my head, blocking the golden light pouring down, squinting through the swirling steam over the rocky peak, peering down into the charred pit below.
Ashes, like fluffy snowflakes, were swept away by the wind in my line of sight.
BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM—
With four thunderous bangs, at the peak of the rock completely tainted by scarlet bl**d, four gigantic pillars of light shot up around the pit. They were square and sharply defined, thick golden chains interlinking them, forming a kind of barricade that instantly enclosed the pit.
This was the miracle the dancer manifested… a sealing kind of miracle… I had never seen anything like it…
Gulp gulp gulp…
In the pit, dark red pooled bl**d gathered into a lake, its surface rippling fiercely as if boiling, countless bubbles rising and bursting. Remnants of tumors floated on the lake, sinking slowly until a grotesque arm surged forth from the viscous bl**d!
!!!
I jumped in terror.
That was a human arm!
No! A human bone!
But it was enormous…
Too enormous!!!
The bizarre hand that emerged from the bl**d lake, although having the same structure as a human hand—with five finger bones, metacarpals, wrist bones, and joints—was at least fifty times larger than a human hand!
No, wait! One hundred times bigger!!!
The massive bony hand shot out from the thick bl**d and slammed down, sending a tsunami of bl**d surging up, the shocking wave exploded with a deafening boom that splattered dark bl**d nearly a hundred meters high into the air. The scorching air rushed toward me, my face went pale as I squinted, holding my breath.
What… the heck…
In my line of sight, the four pillars standing around the pit were splattered with dark bl**d from the gigantic bony hand’s violent strike, the once-blinding golden glow dimmed drastically, and the thick chains rattled. In the next moment, a bare, bloody head slowly emerged from the liquid.
“What…”
I felt my voice tremble, so I took a deep breath.
“What! The heck is that—!!”
As if to vent the anxiety and fear swelling within me, I clenched my fists, my gaze fixated on that enormous head. I shouted, echoing off the rocky walls below me.
That was a human head.
No hair, no eyes, not even a nose or ears. It looked as if it had been soaked in some toxic liquid, the blackened skull held only by a few strands of stringy flesh. The cheekbones and jaw were slick with a gross, translucent membrane, as if it had been scavenged by beasts, leaving just this remnant of bone and meat.
In those empty eye sockets, the thick dark bl**d cascaded like a waterfall, spilling down from the skull’s emergence from the bl**d lake, further boiling the dark red surface of the lake. The air temperature continued to rise, and once the skull was fully out of the bl**d, it turned its head, jaws flung wide, howling to the heavens.
“Bzzz—”
That resonated like the miracle’s buzzing, but a thousand times sharper. The horrific sound waves were visually discernible as they erupted from the skull’s mouth, shattering countless rocks surrounding the pit and shaking the pillars and chains, raising clouds of dust!
My face went a shade paler as I tightly covered my ears.
“Ah…”
The shocking, fearful feelings surged through me, accompanied by some indescribable dread that gnawed at my core, mixing with the almost eardrum-bursting screech. I couldn’t help but scream, but my shout was drowned out the very next moment by an even more intense buzzing.
The steam lingering at the peak dissipated like mist in the wind.
In a daze, I thought I saw that woman.
She stood atop the rocks now, just under a hundred meters away from that massive, corpse-like thing. Dark red bl**d surged around her ankles, soaking her silver hair as the relentless waves of bl**d made her look like a tiny boat amid a crimson storm. Brilliant golden light swirled around her, continuously flowing from her body, feeding the trembling pillars with faith’s power.
But the color of the pillars continued to fade under the relentless bl**d’s assault, becoming transparent.
In the bl**d lake, the enormous corpse revealed its shoulder blades wrapped in flesh, ribs exposed in a hollow chest, the dark red heart throbbing in that empty cavity, producing a low, heavy sound like a distant tolling bell.
“‘Language of the Abyss’ Humans…”
It slowly rotated its skull, a glint of red flashing in its dark eye sockets as it turned to look at the dancer.
In the next moment, that terrifying massive hand shot out of the bl**d again, accompanied by howling winds and thick bl**d, crashing down towards the rock where the woman stood!
