Chapter 12: Ka Successed
Night Lan was already asleep, while Night Star was wide awake in the theater.
A single consciousness was split into two under special power—a part of her was sleeping, and the other part was wide awake.
Powerful, intangible forces roamed above the capital, dragging people into strange dreams as they slept.
In no time, Night Lan began to wake up, finding herself in a bizarre dream.
“Uh… Did Ka finally glitch out successfully?”
Meanwhile, back in reality.
In the Rising Sun Theater Group, Night Star mumbled softly.
“It seems like it succeeded…”
Kong Yu Bai asked beside her, “Do you feel any discomfort?”
“Mm… I don’t think so, just like usual.”
Even though one was in the dream world and the other in reality, it didn’t cause Night Lan any discomfort.
This allowed Night Lan to easily jot down everything she saw and heard in the dream, ensuring she wouldn’t miss anything important.
Back to the dream now.
Night Lan started moving, getting ready to find the Leader.
The Leader said they would come looking for her, but she couldn’t just stand still; she had to search on her own.
Left and right, she surveyed her surroundings and noticed that the streets were getting even more crowded.
They seemed like ordinary folks dragged into this dream by some mysterious Star Eclipses.
They probably had no idea what happened and would just think it’s a strange dream, and forget about it once they woke up. Hence, there wouldn’t be any panic.
So from this perspective, at least this dream hadn’t messed with the order too much.
Of course, certain characteristics made things very hard for the Night Watchers.
That issue about the missing stars.
How could a Night Watcher who couldn’t see the stars properly investigate this strange dream?
Night Lan felt pretty worried.
Regular people don’t stand a chance against Star Eclipses, which is like a fly trying to move a mountain.
But this was only the current situation.
Once the Night Watchers collected enough information, they might devise countermeasures.
And meanwhile, Night Lan could only act as a messenger, which was annoying.
“Ah…”
She sighed lightly and got ready to climb up high.
It was her habit: when she couldn’t find someone, she’d look from the highest point, hoping to spot them instantly.
Of course, this method practically never worked and was just a silly plan during her confusion.
Just then, Night Lan caught sight of a familiar figure.
It was a rather androgynous young woman she had seen recently in the headquarters’ cafeteria.
“Is that… Qi Xing?”
Seldom encountering Night Watchers in dreams, Night Lan naturally didn’t intend to ignore her and moved right up.
“Senior Qi Xing!”
Hearing someone call her name, Qi Xing turned around and realized a familiar face approaching.
“Night Lan?”
Qi Xing naturally remembered the cute Little Loli.
Though they had only met once, the impression remained vivid.
“Night Lan, did you enter the Star Eclipse dream too?”
“Yeah.”
“Then, follow me. I’ll take care of you.”
Qi Xing loved taking care of younger juniors, let alone Night Lan being such a cute Little Loli. That was like extra points!
If Night Lan knew this, she would definitely protest quietly.
She was, after all, a grown-up older than Qi Xing. Being treated like a mascot was quite embarrassing.
“The Leader and others are also inside. Let’s go find them together.”
Night Lan didn’t mind teaming up with Qi Xing.
Finding them would be easier with a partner.
At this moment, Qi Xing’s expression turned puzzled.
“Night Lan, I didn’t wake up yesterday due to the alarm from Zhi Xing, so it must be the Star Eclipses’ doing. I came to this dream yesterday, but why do I have no memory of it? Isn’t that odd?”
“Um… maybe because of the dream’s properties. The Leader said waking up means losing memories inside.”
“But… if I had been here before, coming back should remember it. But since re-entering, I had no recollection at all, as if it’s my first time.”
Hearing this, Night Lan froze.
She suddenly realized something terrible.
Ordinary people lose dream memories upon waking.
Those lost memories won’t return, they’re gone forever.
Thus, no matter how many times the Night Watchers re-enter the dream, they start at ground zero every time with no tactics.
This was hellishly difficult.
Without Night Lan, even if the Night Watchers discovered the dream’s strangeness, they would fail to bring any information back out.
Even if they returned, they’d feel strangely unfamiliar with everything, possibly unable to solve the mystery, leaving Star Eclipses to wreak havoc.
For the Night Watchers, this was mental torture.
Fortunately, Night Lan was here.
Now, Night Lan was almost certain.
She was the world’s bug.
Even if Star Eclipses had bizarre powers, it was nothing compared to the Wish Machine.
Wish Machine topped the Dream Narrator, making her the loophole in this world’s design.
She was truly unique.
With this thought, Night Lan instantly felt enormous pressure.
After all, she was essentially the last hope. If she gave up, it was over.
This immense pressure made her feel suffocated.
“Uh… A little loli shouldn’t bear such burdens. Who’s up to all sorts of wrongdoings?”
Thinking about it, Night Lan got angrier. She demanded Night Star shout in the theater, “The Announcer has been causing all this mischief!”
Qi Xing didn’t catch Night Lan’s mutterings and asked in confusion, “Night Lan, what did you say?”
“Nothing. Just some weird rambling.”
Shaking off her wild thoughts, Night Lan prepared for the next step.
Now, her top priority should be finding the Leader.
Besides, Night Lan was just an information courier, and her brain definitely wasn’t as sharp as those brilliant Night Watcher minds.
Those masters could uncover so many details.
Night Lan just needed to bring them back to reality and hand them over to the Leader.
After a while, Night Lan eventually found the Night Watcher’s main group with Qi Xing.
Since this dream mimicked the capital, surely the Night Watcher’s headquarters existed too.
All the other Watchers gathered here, showing impeccable coordination in thought.
Here, Night Lan finally found the Leader as imagined.
Standing amongst the Watchers, the Leader exuded commanding presence.
Night Lan wanted to greet him, but reconsidered as it would draw too much attention.
So, what to do next?
“Uh…”
Night Lan stared intently at the Leader, eyes burning with intensity, hoping he’d notice her.
To her surprise, the Leader actually looked over!
He nodded slightly at her and gestured her to wait a minute.
In response, Night Lan gave the “OK” signal with a sudden urge to take a nap.
