46. What’s Your Wedding Anniversary?
The couple sat upright, backs straight as a board, hands resting neatly on their knees, looking as serious as kids trying to ace a pop quiz.
But underneath their composed exteriors, they were both a bundle of nerves.
As Principal Wilson leaned in to confer with the Director beside him, Leon glanced ahead, tilted slightly toward Roswiser, and whispered, “Why don’t we just k*ll him?”
“Good suggestion, Dragon Slayer, but let’s not mention that again,” Roswiser shot back.
“So, what now? We didn’t prepare anything for this interview!”
Roswiser closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and slowly exhaled. “Let’s just wing it.”
“Cough, cough—”
Principal Wilson cleared his throat, “Alright, let’s officially begin the interview.”
Roswiser forced a polite smile, “Sure, Principal.”
“Ah, and please don’t be nervous; this is the first time we’re trying interviews in our academy, so I won’t be too harsh. Just relax, relax.”
The couple shared a glance, saying nothing with their eyes.
Principal Wilson picked up a stack of papers and asked leisurely, “Do you two remember your wedding anniversary?”
It was as if a thunderbolt struck; they froze in place.
They never expected the principal’s first question to almost sabotage their chances.
After a brief mental crash, Roswiser quickly responded, “Ah, yes, of course! Such an important day, how could I forget?”
Leon shot her a look.
Sister, we had a kid before marriage—where’s the anniversary?
At that moment, Roswiser glanced back at him, giving him an encouraging wink.
Leon was panicking but he could read the cue.
While they didn’t have a traditional wedding anniversary, that one fateful day two years ago was probably more significant than any wedding.
Roswiser chimed in, “It’s the 25th of May, year 1733 of the Creation Calendar—”
In perfect harmony, they both said, “May 25th.”
On May 22nd, 1733, Leon’s Dragon Slayer team attacked the Silver Dragon Race, but during the battle, Leon was backstabbed, captured, and defeated.
Three days later, on May 25th, Leon used bl**d Charm to bond with the Silver Dragon Queen, resulting in her pregnancy.
Principal Wilson raised an eyebrow at their uncanny synchronicity, “Married for just two years, huh? Your child must have started school quite early.”
“Yes, Principal,” Roswiser said while casually fixing her hair and sighing in relief.
“During these two years of marriage, has your partner developed any habits or behaviors that you find hard to tolerate?”
“None,” Roswiser replied immediately.
Wilson nodded and turned to Leon.
Leon furrowed his brows, thought for a moment, and answered, “Yes.”
At that, Roswiser panicked.
What kind of antics is he pulling?
He could’ve just said no and we’d skip this question!
But Wilson seemed intrigued, “What is it?”
“At home, I always feel invisible,” Leon said, his expression grave.
“Invisible?”
“Yeah.”
Leon continued, “Cooking, washing dishes, tidying up, managing family matters—my wife handles it all. The only thing I do is watch her rush around while I don’t lift a finger.”
As he spoke, Leon sighed and turned to Roswiser, “If I could, I’d like to use this interview to let my wife know that I want to contribute to our family too, to share the burden a bit.”
High emotional intelligence: Help my wife reduce her stress.
Low emotional intelligence: Seriously, when she gets stressed, she comes at me like a dragon. Who can take that?
Principal Wilson, blissfully unaware of Leon’s true intentions, nodded approvingly after hearing his words.
“How did you guys get married? Was it love at first sight or did an elder set you up?” he asked.
“Ah, we… we fell in love at first sight and then—”
Roswiser looked toward Leon for help.
Leon quickly picked up where she left off, “And then we had a whirlwind wedding, yeah, a flash marriage.”
Flash marriage?
More like flash pregnancy!
They met and boom—baby on board!
The Vice Principal looked mildly surprised, “Flash marriage? Wow, making such a swift decision means you two must have a special bond to still be together.”
The clueless couple (grinning): “You’ve got great insight, Principal.”
“Then, Ms. Roswiser, what do you think is your husband’s most attractive quality?”
This guy’s attractive qualities…
Roswiser turned to look at Leon, thought for a moment, and began to enumerate, “Focused, serious, smart, not greasy, responsible, likes kids, and never loses his temper with anyone.”
After a pause, she added, “If I had to be shallow, I’d say he’s handsome, fit, but…”
“but…?” Principal Wilson asked, leaning in.
“His body’s not what it used to be since we got married, but it’s not a big deal. My husband is also a master alchemist; he can use various potions to keep himself in shape, right?”
Leon’s lips twitched slightly.
He thought Roswiser would finally lavish him with praise.
But instead, she just delivered a killer blow.
“So, I’d like to take this opportunity during the interview to say something to my husband.”
With that, Roswiser reached out and gently placed her hand on Leon’s shoulder.
Then, gazing at him lovingly, she softly said, “Don’t push yourself too hard; I understand.”
“You understand what, exactly—”
Principal Wilson chuckled behind his hand; this couple was entertaining, indeed.
“Alright, alright, looks like you two are quite lively together. Now, for the next question, what are your plans for the future?”
The couple snapped back to attention.
“Future plans? Could you be more specific, Principal?” Roswiser asked.
“Ah, for example… are you planning for a second child?”
Leon silently covered his face and gestured for Roswiser to tackle that question.
Roswiser smiled awkwardly, “Um… we haven’t really considered that yet. Actually, we already have two kids; Noia has a twin sister. So, if we’re talking plans… let’s first nurture these two before thinking about a second child. What do you think, Leon?”
As she spoke, Roswiser jostled Leon’s arm with her elbow.
“Yeah, yeah, what my wife said.”
“Wow, so it’s a family of four already, that’s wonderful!” Principal Wilson commented.
“Thank you, Principal.”
After that, the principal asked a few more questions.
Leon and Roswiser fielded them, giving answers that were a mix of truth and embellishment.
At the end of the interview, Principal Wilson said, “Now, for the finale, let’s play a little game of ‘truth or dare.’ Each of you can ask your partner one question you most want an answer to. If you choose to respond, please be as honest as possible; if not, there’s no pressure.”
The couple looked at each other.
To avoid saying something that could backfire, Roswiser replied, “I don’t really have any questions for my husband; I know everything about him.”
“Alright then, Mr. Leon, do you have a question for your wife?”
Leaning back in his chair with a thoughtful frown, Leon ran a hand along his chin.
Roswiser watched him, curious about what he would ask.
Was he going to hint that he’d like her to lighten up on him?
Or maybe express he wanted to return to the Empire?
Most likely something along those lines.
After a moment, Leon turned to Roswiser, meeting her silver eyes, and solemnly asked, “You actually liked the teddy bear I gave you, right?”
Roswiser blinked.
She didn’t expect Leon to throw such a question at her.
A question completely unrelated to their identities, grudges, or anything else.
Her pupils quivered slightly as she bit her lip, tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, lowered her eyelids, and nodded, “Yeah, I really liked the teddy bear you gave me.”
She might not even realize it, but Leon had asked if she liked it.
However, her answer wasn’t just a simple “like.”
It was—“I really liked it.”
Clap—
Leon clapped his hands, “OK, I’ve got no issues.”
Principal Wilson stood up, “Well then, the interview is now concluded. I hope your future life is filled with happiness. I’ll send the assessment results to the Silver Dragon Temple via Message Dragon tomorrow. Thank you both for your cooperation!”
