Chapter 139: Calling Hubby
No matter the situation, when an unwelcome “thought” pops up, even if it’s completely unintentional, it will sprout in a person’s mind like a wild seed—growing uncontrollably.
Even Roswiser couldn’t escape this curse.
She lay on the soft bed, her silver eyes staring blankly at the ceiling.
The room was dead quiet, only the mechanical ticking of the clock and the soft breaths of the man on the sofa could be heard.
Although she wasn’t quite used to sharing a room with that guy without any drama, on such a serene night, Roswiser definitely shouldn’t have been wide awake.
The root cause? That little remark from Leon about “be careful you don’t open your eyes and find a spider.”
The truth is, only her family knew about Roswiser’s fear of spiders.
To keep her subordinates and kin from discovering this embarrassing weakness of the queen, she made Anna and the others do a thorough pest control every three months in and around the Silver Dragon Temple.
Officially to maintain the temple’s healthy environment;
In reality, it was more like, “All spiders, just d*e already!”
Thinking back to it, the last pest control happened the day after she returned from her sister Isar’s place, where she’d bumped into two spiders on Isar’s bed and ended up clinging to Leon for dear life all night.
Since then, some time had passed, and it definitely seemed time to schedule another pest control for the year’s end—
But the real question was, what to do about tonight?
Every time she closed her eyes, she felt little spiders crawling all over her.
It was akin to finishing a horror movie, then feeling like the room is filled with ghosts after the lights go out.
Thoughts like PTSD came flooding into her mind.
“It’s been ages since the last pest control; what if the new batch of spiders has grown up?”
“What if when that dog man snuck into my room last night through the balcony, a spider tagged along?”
“Maybe under this bed, there’s a spider ready to strike, just waiting to crawl up on me—”
“!!!”
“I can’t think about this anymore!”
“Sleep, sleep, sleep!”
Roswiser squeezed her eyes shut, her body tensing up, but her mind continued to spiral into wild thoughts.
In the autumn-winter season, the air is dry, and the friction between blankets and skin easily creates little static shocks.
That sensation feels just like tiny bugs scuttling across her skin.
Under normal circumstances, Roswiser wouldn’t care about such little details.
But after Leon’s little scare, she felt certain that some tiny spider had snuck into her blanket.
She knew the odds of finding a spider in her room were slim, but the ingrained fear of those eight-legged monsters lingered.
d*mn Dragon Slayer, one day I’ll stuff your bed with carrots and eggplants, Roswiser thought with indignation.
But for now, she had to survive the night.
She turned to look at Leon on the sofa.
His blanket was only pulled up to his abdomen, one hand dangling off the couch while the other rested gently on his forehead.
He didn’t exactly look like he was asleep.
Roswiser bit her lip and tentatively asked, “Leon… are you asleep?”
“What is it?” the man on the sofa responded quickly.
“Nothing. Just wanted to check.”
“Oh.”
Rustle—
Leon turned over, facing away from Roswiser, looking at the back of the sofa.
Hey, don’t turn away!
At least let me see your face for some sense of security!
“Leon…”
“What is it now?”
“Could you… turn around…?”
“Beg me.”
Roswiser narrowed her eyes, her hand hidden under the covers tightening into a fist, but her mouth relented, “Please, just turn around.”
Leon was taken aback; he didn’t expect this dragon mother to genuinely plead with him.
What’s gotten into her? Did she dream of becoming human again?
But I didn’t even start any prenatal education tonight.
Or…?…
Oh~~
Leon realized it was probably because he casually mentioned spiders earlier that now the dragon mother couldn’t settle down to sleep.
He smirked inside and turned back around.
“Like this?”
Roswiser bit her lip, nodding, “Mm.”
Leon chuckled.
Had he known the Silver Dragon Queen had such a weakness, he would have brought along a sack of spiders when he attacked the Silver Dragon Temple back in the day.
But then again, it might not be that straightforward.
After all, there’s a time for everyday life and a time for war.
Just because she’s afraid of spiders in her daily life doesn’t mean she would be scared on the battlefield. One blast of Dragon Flame, and not even an SSS-grade spider species would be left in ashes.
Leon closed his eyes, stopping his wandering thoughts.
As drowsiness washed over him, he thought he’d leave the family planning discussion for another day.
But just as he was about to drift off, a soft voice emerged from the bed,
“Leon…”
Leon’s face twisted with annoyance, and he frowned, still keeping his eyes closed, “What now?”
“Could you… come sleep on the bed?”
The lion-sized man suddenly opened his eyes wide, “What?”
He didn’t mishear; he thought he must’ve heard wrong.
Roswiser bit her lip, her face flushed with embarrassment as she repeated, “I said, could you come sleep on the bed…”
Wow, she’s really scared now.
Aww, the poor Melkway, afraid of spiders—someone protect her!
Just kidding.
“I won’t.”
Leon said decisively, “You just said I couldn’t sleep on the bed; the Silver Dragon Queen can’t go back on her word.”
Roswiser was speechless, “Haven’t you slept in my bed plenty of times?”
“So now I’ve seen the light, realized my mistakes, and vowed never to sleep in Your Majesty’s bed again,” Leon claimed with a serious face.
“You!……”
Why can’t this dog man be swayed by either softness or toughness?!
Time to keep wearing him down.
“Leon… really, just sleep here for tonight.”
Seeing the dragon mother’s pitiful look, Leon’s heart softened.
So he decided to—
Keep tormenting her.
Seriously, the chances of being able to tease Roswiser are becoming fewer by the day; Leon must cherish every opportunity!
“Hmm… it’s not impossible to let me come over, but I have a condition,” Leon said.
“What condition?”
“Call me hubby.”
“……I won’t.”
“Oh, then goodnight.”
With that, Leon tucked himself under the blanket and turned away, leaving Roswiser with just his back.
“Hey Leon!…… Just come, okay? Please.”
“Call~me~hubby~ or no deal.”
Roswiser clutched the corners of her blanket tightly, her dragon pupils narrowing.
This was the precursor to a dragon’s rage.
Let’s reiterate, I can do this on my own, but you can’t order me around.
In a flash, Roswiser flung off the blanket, padding over to the sofa barefoot.
Leon heard the hurried footsteps and turned just in time to see what was happening.
But Roswiser had already reached the sofa, lifted her leg, and jumped over Leon’s chest, slipping through the gap between him and the sofa back.
Leon was left dumbfounded by the fluidity of her movements.
How on earth did she squeeze her one-meter seventy, 34E self into such a tight space?
Women are made of water? Is that true for dragon mothers too?
Leon shook his head and asked, “What are you doing? Don’t you have your own bed?”
“If you won’t come, then I’ll just come over here.”
Roswiser burrowed into Leon’s blanket, her long form pressed against the back of the sofa. “Leon, this is all your fault!”
“My fault?”
Leon, at that moment, was like many a baffled boyfriend, completely clueless about where he had gone wrong.
“You shouldn’t have mentioned that darn spider. Otherwise, I’d be asleep by now!”
“……Well, that’s quite the colossal blunder then.”
“And you promised me that during the pregnancy, you’d endure my tantrums.”
Leon sighed and glanced back at the empty big bed, thinking if he stole Roswiser’s home right now, she’d definitely follow.
With all the tossing and turning, sleep was out of the question for tonight.
Alright, we’ll just squash together here then.
He lay back down, facing Roswiser—because the space on the sofa was too small for them to even turn their backs to each other.
Their noses almost brushed against one another, their breaths exchanged gently in each other’s faces.
Roswiser glared at Leon, while he looked resigned.
“Not scared anymore? Then just sleep. I need to teach Moon some magic tomorrow,” Leon said, closing his eyes.
But Roswiser still didn’t feel satisfied.
Under the covers, she stealthily reached out, aiming for Leon’s belly, and squeezed it hard—
The pain jolted Leon, almost causing him to fall off the sofa.
“Are you out of your mind, dragon mother? Keep your hands to yourself!”
“I’m a pregnant woman, tough it out!”
“Hey, can’t my hot temper deal with you?!”
Just as the couple was about to escalate the bickering on the sofa,
The door lock suddenly rattled…..
