10. Poor Thing

The next morning, Leon slept in until after nine.
He had woken up once in the morning when Roswiser called in breakfast at the hotel front desk.
But ever since returning from the Empire, he had been a bit of a sleepyhead, thinking about catching some extra Z’s before getting up to eat.
Roswiser didn’t force him up; she just left breakfast by the bed and went on her way.
Apparently, she had been called away by Noia, who wanted Mommy to teach her how to swim.
Leon wasn’t really listening, groggy and drifting back into slumber.
Around nine, he was jolted awake by a loud knocking on the door.
He rubbed his eyes, shook his head, threw on some clothes, and shuffled to the door.
Outside was Moon.
“What’s the matter, Moon—”
“Daddy, Daddy, quick, quick, quick!” The little dragon girl was anxiously pacing, her tail flailing behind her as if it was equally nervous.
Leon’s expression turned serious, and he quickly squatted down to put his arm around his daughter’s shoulders, soothing her, “Calm down, Moon, take your time and tell me what’s wrong?”
“Mommy, Mommy, she—”
Just hearing Roswiser’s name made Leon furrow his brows deeper; he had just been telling Moon to stay calm, but his own tone began to speed up,
“What happened to Mommy?”
“She fainted while teaching Sister how to swim and accidentally drowned!”
A dragon… can drown?
There wasn’t time to ponder this; Leon immediately scooped up Moon and dashed down the stairs towards the lobby.
Meanwhile, at the beach, Roswiser was lying under a big sunshade, while Noia sat demurely beside her.
Roswiser had her eyes closed, her silver brows and eyes long and elegant, with her pupils darting around under her eyelids.
Finally, she couldn’t help but open her eyes to look at her daughter.
“Noia, how much longer does Mommy have to lie here?”
Noia fumbled and looked behind her, not seeing Moon or Daddy, then turned back and mumbled, “Um… just a little longer. I just need to write this one essay on lifeguard practices for my summer homework, everything has to go in the right order.”

When Roswiser first heard about this assignment, she thought Noia was making it up.
But after thinking it over, her sweet daughter wouldn’t just invent something like that, so she didn’t press further and agreed to cooperate with her daughter.
In this little practice essay, she was playing the role of the “damsel in distress,” needing a “lifeguard skilled in emergency rescue” to come and… save her.
It was a no-brainer who would fill that role.
But that Dog Man might not even be awake yet! If he delayed my darling daughter’s essay, I’d have words with him!
After waiting a little longer, Noia perked up as she heard hurried footsteps approaching from behind.
She turned to look; it was Daddy and Moon.
“Mommy, Mommy, close your eyes! The lifeguard is here! Just do what I taught you and cooperate well with the lifeguard, no matter what happens, don’t open your eyes until I give you the signal.”
“No matter what happens, don’t open your eyes…”
Roswiser pondered this statement silently.
Asking a dragon to keep her eyes closed in front of a Dragon Slayer—wasn’t that a bit… bold?
Oh well, it’s all for the sake of my daughter.
And besides, Casmod wouldn’t dare pull anything funny on this Queen.
With that thought, Roswiser slowly closed her eyes.
The footsteps stopped beside her.
“How did Mommy drown?”
Leon asked while unzipping Roswiser’s jacket to ensure it wouldn’t interfere with her breathing.
“I’m not sure… We were just practicing, and then Mommy called for help, so I dragged her here, but she hasn’t woken up,” Noia explained.
“Got it. Don’t worry, Mommy will be fine.”
“Mm…” Noia agreed, sneaking a glance at Moon next to her.

The dignified dragon girl subtly nodded, indicating the plan was going smoothly.
Leon checked Roswiser’s nose and mouth, confirming there were no obstructions and then pressed his palms gently against her abdomen.
This was to expel the water from a drowning person—the Dragon Slayer Academy had taught this.
He thought he’d never have to use it in his life; after all, it was a huge joke if a professional Dragon Slayer drowned.
But now he was faced with an even bigger joke—
d*mn, even a winged dragon can drown!
Mother Dragon, oh, the embarrassment!
But after a few presses, he didn’t see any water rush out of Roswiser’s mouth.
Scratching his head, he muttered, “This… shouldn’t be right… How can someone who drowned have no water in their belly…?”
Just then, Noia leaned in and casually reminded him,
“Daddy, I heard that in this case, you might need to do artificial respiration or something…”
“Huh? A-artificial respiration? Isn’t that supposed to be done after someone has stopped breathing…?”
He remembered that’s how they taught at the Dragon Slayer Academy.
Noia’s eyes darted, and she immediately pointed to Mommy, “But Mommy isn’t breathing! Right? Look, Daddy!”
At this moment, the “damsel in distress” lying on the ground had no choice but to play along with her daughter, holding her breath silently.
Everyone saw it; this Queen was only holding her breath for her daughter’s sake.
Artificial respiration? All that nonsense? This Queen doesn’t know anything about it!
Leon reached out to check Roswiser’s pulse.
It was indeed gone.
“d*mn, Mother Dragon, don’t scare me like that!”
Someone panicked.
Someone got closer.
Someone pried open the beautiful woman’s mouth.
Someone leaned in!
“Moon’s gonna have a new—uhmm!”
Noia quickly covered Moon’s mouth before she could shout in excitement.
Fortunately, Daddy was busy giving Mommy artificial respiration and seemed not to notice Moon’s earlier slip-up.
The two little dragon girls obediently stood by, watching their parents “kiss” over and over again.
Noia was already considering names for the fourth sister.
Should she go with Blazer, or Dreamius?
Meanwhile, Roswiser was still “unconscious.”
With her eyes closed, she could feel Leon’s urgency and worry, hot lips touching and then parting, parting and touching again.
She thought it was just for show; even if it was artificial respiration, it was just a chance to mess with this Dog Man.
But she didn’t expect that he actually… seemed to be worried about her?
Did Moon not tell him this was all just an act for the practice essay?
If not, then that meant his nervousness was genuine…

“Mommy’s finger moved!”
Finally, Leon let out a sigh of relief.
Then, Roswiser coughed a couple of times and slowly opened her eyes.
Emmm, what was I supposed to do after opening my eyes again?
Oh~~ right, time for the lines.
“What… what happened to me? What just happened? Who saved me?” she read out flatly.
“Daddy saved you!” Moon said proudly, shaking Leon’s wrist.
“Oh, thank you, brave lifeguard!”
Leon’s face turned red, his brain a little oxygen-deprived from the artificial respira—aha!
But he still managed to think.
He looked at the seemingly unfazed Mother Dragon and then at his two daughters, who looked like they had just pulled off a master plan—
