Chapter 38: Spatial Magic
“You two… ahem.”
Granny just couldn’t bear to interrupt her granddaughter and son-in-law gazing into each other’s eyes.
But seriously, aren’t you two feeling the sticky, gooey tension in the air?
Here I am, over eight hundred years old, still wanting to live a few more centuries. Can you kindly cut out the romantic melodrama?
Roswiser quickly averted her gaze, instinctively scratching her cheek.
Yep, still a little hot there.
Watching her granddaughter blush, Granny couldn’t help but reminisce about how much this married woman had changed. It was like comparing day and night from fifty years ago.
But she wouldn’t scold or subtly hint at Roswiser. Sure, she was a tough cookie, but since Little Luo had bloomed into the Silver Dragon Queen and built her own family, how she chose to live her life was up to her.
Granny wouldn’t meddle too much in the younger generation’s choices.
“It seems Leon wasn’t lying; you two are really quite the lovebirds,” Granny said casually.
Roswiser raised an eyebrow. “Leon said… we’re in love?”
Granny nodded, “He did.”
After a pause, she added, “Several times, actually.”
Roswiser’s heart raced as she glanced at the “Dog Man” across from her, suppressing the smug grin threatening to form. “Really, honey~?”
With that, Roswiser activated their couple’s voice chat.
【Hey, hey, is that what you said?】
【More than once?】
【How deep is this love, really? Tell me~】
【How come you never said any of this to me? Shy, are we?】
【Speak! Leon!】
【Unmute yourself, quick!】
……
【Leon Casmod has exited the voice chat and muted his teammates.】
He lowered his head, silently covering his face.
You see, the Melkway family matriarch not only had a knack for changing her facial expressions, but she was also a pro at social embarrassment.
“Geez, Little Luo, now you’ve made him all bashful,” Granny interjected to lighten the mood.
Roswiser snorted, “It’s fine, Grandma. We’re just like this usually.”
Granny smiled lightly. “Well, that’s nice.”
After a bit more chatter, Roswiser switched topics. “So, Grandma, you’re not just here to visit me and my sister, right?”
Granny rarely returned after decades away each time with something significant going on.
Roswiser sensed this time was no different.
Sure enough, Granny nodded, her smile fading, and her tone shifted to something more serious.
“Yes, there are indeed matters I want to discuss.”
Leon, sensing the shift, tentatively asked, “Should I… excuse myself?”
Granny shook her head. “No need. Leon can stay. It’s fine.”
“Okay then.”
Roswiser sat up straight, “Please, go ahead, Grandma.”
Granny grew serious and began, “Actually, I planned to return three years ago. I heard that the top-tier Dragon Slayer Army was set to attack your territory, led by that guy in black armor, said to be the strongest Dragon Slayer. Several Dragon Kings have already fallen at his hands.”
Leon: Maybe I should just excuse myself after all?
Whoa, Granny doesn’t just stab—you could say she goes right for the jugular!
The couple exchanged a glance.
Roswiser subtly shook her head, signaling “It’s fine, let’s keep listening.”
“Upon hearing that news, I immediately planned to return. But at that time, I was with several Dragon Kings in the Extreme North, and even if we flew full throttle, it would take at least a month to get back to Silver Dragon territory.”
“Luckily, Star Wanderer Dragon King Rave was there too. He said he could use his spatial teleportation magic to get me part of the way, potentially cutting my travel time in half.”
“But it needed a few days to set up the teleportation circle. I agreed.”
“However, by the time Rave had the teleportation circle ready, I received word that the Silver Dragon Queen had defeated the human Dragon Slayer Army.”
“So I abandoned my plan to return.”
Granny squinted her eyes, reminiscing about those days. “I was wondering, that black-armored guy didn’t seem as strong as the legends suggested. How did he take down so many Dragon Kings? Luck?”
General Leon: How about I demonstrate right here? Someone, fetch my Black Gold Battle Armor!
Noticing her husband’s slight displeasure, Roswiser quickly chimed in,
“Ah, actually, that guy is really strong. I just got lucky to defend my territory.”
Roswiser felt a bit of comfort knowing that her grandmother had always cared about her well-being but realized that pursuing this topic could lead someone to get hot under the collar.
Usually, she would tease and poke fun, but with Granny around, if things got too heated and Granny caught a hint of something, that would be unfortunate.
So… it was really just to avoid Granny finding out, not that she wanted to protect her “Dog Man.”
“The next time I heard about you was with the invasion of Red Flame Dragon King Constantine.”
At this point, Granny looked directly at Leon.
“The messenger said that the Silver Dragon Queen didn’t personally come to the battlefield; she was instead represented by someone using lightning magic. Lightning magic isn’t common among dragons—only a few… lowly dragon race survivors seem to use it. Right, Leon?”
“Lowly dragon race survivor” was the backstory Roswiser had created for Leon, and he’d just introduced himself to Granny with that same line.
But it seemed this excuse could fool outsiders yet wasn’t going to cut it in front of Granny.
Judging by Granny’s tone, she wasn’t buying Leon’s introduction.
But instead of calling him out, she threw the question back at Leon, curious to see how he’d respond.
Roswiser realized that Granny hadn’t actually noticed Leon’s human identity but was skeptical about the “lowly tribe survivor” claim.
So… Granny saying she didn’t mind Leon’s background was just a way to tease her granddaughter?
Sigh, looks like age does come with wisdom, Roswiser thought to herself.
“You’re right. I was the one who killed Constantine.”
Roswiser was slightly taken aback by how straight-up he was.
But it was for the best; there was really no need for secrecy—dancing around it would only raise Granny’s suspicions.
“Because Roswiser was about to give birth, and Constantine had planted a spy within the Silver Dragons, he seized that opportunity to attack. To protect both Roswiser and our unborn child, I fought and sacrificed everything to barely defeat Constantine.”
“Sacrificed everything” meant he sacrificed Constantine’s life;
“Barely” meant it took him ten minutes to win the fight.
If he could’ve just held the blue bar, five minutes would’ve done it!
Yep, that was the gist.
Granny chuckled and replied, “Leon, you don’t need to be so tense. I won’t pry too much into your past. Since Little Luo chose you, it means she believes in you.”
Leon let out a sigh of relief and took the opportunity to sneak a glance at Roswiser.
She smiled, a hint of pride shining through.
Oh, silly dragon, why are you so proud? Tone it down a bit.
Granny continued,
“In just three years, the Silver Dragon Race has faced two large-scale attacks, which gives me an uneasy feeling.”
“I thought as soon as the Extreme North investigation was done, I’d rush back.”
“Luckily, I haven’t received any news about wars happening on Little Luo’s side, which has eased my worries a bit.”
“But… not long after, Star Wanderer Dragon King Rave suddenly withdrew from the Extreme North investigation for unknown reasons.”
“Without Rave, who excels in spatial magic, our investigation became difficult to continue, so we had to take a break. I used this chance to visit you and Isar.”
“On the way back, my spies gathered some interesting news.”
“For instance… besides Rave, there are two other Dragon Kings skilled in spatial magic—Black Sun Dragon King Blay and Chaos Dragon King Jagers—who have also gone missing, but their tribes remain perfectly calm.”
Granny looked up, eyeing both of the attentive young couple before falling silent.
Roswiser immediately grasped Granny’s hint and added, “The tribes’ Dragon Kings being missing, yet their operations remaining stable indicates they likely made arrangements before departing.”
Granny nodded in approval. “Exactly. While I’m not sure if Rave and the other two Dragon Kings’ secret actions are related to the recent frequent attacks on your Silver Dragon Race, I think it’s crucial for you to know this significant information.”
The sudden gathering of a few Dragon Kings isn’t usually a good sign.
Granny’s intel was indeed vital; it at least provided Roswiser with some time to prepare and avoid a sudden crisis.
Roswiser asked a few more questions regarding Rave, and Granny answered them all.
Meanwhile, Leon was deep in thought about the names Granny had just mentioned:
Rave, Blay, Jagers.
Not a single one…
Had he ever heard before.
Just like… he had never heard of Constantine earlier.
“It’s hard not to link these old-timers together…” Leon thought quietly to himself.
