Chapter 5: Midlife Crisis?
Before Leon could entertain his two lovely guests from the Sea Dragon Race—oops, I mean, the two guests from the Sea Dragon Race—he needed to bandage his wounds.
After all, fulfilling that promise made to Claudia required a healthy body.
Speaking of injuries, the recent battle with the Empire left Leon with a nagging sense of his limits.
If it weren’t for the double magic power stored within his second Dragon Pattern, and Roswiser’s Heartguard Dragon Scale, ‘Night Armor’ would’ve simply been Leon’s final curtain call.
Even as the strongest Dragon Slayer, he couldn’t withstand the backlash of opening all Nine Gates.
No wonder the ancient texts on the Nine Gates of Hell specifically note that “few in the world can open all nine gates.”
It constantly reminds practitioners that to gain power beyond their limits, one must pay a considerable cost, and that cost often exceeds imagination.
Thus, after dealing with the Empire’s crisis, Leon began contemplating how to break through his current limits.
He knew retirement wasn’t an option just yet.
Not to mention that Queen Elizabeth still hadn’t been found, and over on Constantine’s side, even though old Constantine had a hand in taking down the Empire, it didn’t mean he was firmly in Leon’s camp.
With that massive Primal Power in his hands and a personality like Constantine’s, there was no way he’d waste such formidable strength.
He had even stated that he would defeat Leon.
And let’s not forget the various latent threats brewing within the Dragon Race; Leon could find no reason to kick back and retire.
So, in this chaotic world, in order to protect himself and those he cared about, he had to get stronger.
Stronger than he was now.
Of course, while he couldn’t completely kick back just yet, Leon still granted himself a tiny little vacation.
After all, he had just wrapped up the mess of the Empire and wanted to take this chance to rest and heal a bit.
Every day, he could chat with his daughters, guide them in magic, and listen to his adorable little ones sweetly call him “Dad”—
Now that’s what real daddy life is all about!
But…
There’s always someone who doesn’t want Leon to enjoy a peaceful getaway.
Roswiser Melkway, the Queen of the Silver Dragons, a well-known workaholic, and one of the only two beings capable of restraining Leon—
The other being Little Light’s uppercut.
For the past few days since returning from the Empire, Leon had been dodging Roswiser.
First day, Roswiser wanted him to take a bath with her.
Leon politely declined, saying, “Your Majesty, after today’s border inspection, why don’t you rest up instead?”
Second day, Roswiser wanted Leon to check out her new black lace nightgown.
He turned her down again with, “Wife, you’re a natural model; you’d look good in anything! I’m tired, off to sleep!”
Third day, Roswiser showed him a piece of brown hard candy, claiming it was Little Light’s new concoction of harmless Dragon Strength, and urged him to give it a try.
Leon refused yet again, saying, “I’m the strongest Dragon Slayer! If I’m going to eat some, I’ll have the Dragon Strength Pro Max version, not some weak concentrated one!”
Fourth day—
“Tonight, after your bath, wait for me in bed, captive.”
The Queen issued her command with authority, skipping the whole “marital code” nonsense, just laying it all out to save Leon from fishing for excuses.
“…I-I’m kind of tired. How about tomorrow?” Leon tried to squirm.
“Don’t you humans have a saying, ‘tomorrow with tomorrow, so many tomorrows’? It reminds you to cherish time and get things done today.”
“You got that wrong, dear; it’s ‘tomorrow with tomorrow, and tomorrow indeed is plenty,’ meaning life is long, and nothing is urgent; you can always do it tomorrow.” Leon defended with a straight face.
But the Queen just snorted dismissively. “Life is long? Is it as long as mine?”
“Uh… well…” Leon stumbled, caught off guard.
Yeah, seems like it’s not as long as hers!
“Is it really that urgent, Mother Dragon?”
“I’m not in a hurry,” Roswiser said calmly. “Just think you’ve been under so much pressure lately, and I simply want to help relieve your stress. It’s all for your own good.”
“Wow, that reason is flawless!”
Roswiser slightly tilted her head, arms crossed, and gazed at Leon with those stunning silver eyes.
After a moment, she asked meaningfully, “Leon.”
“What?”
“You’re not… going through a midlife crisis, are you?”
Leon blinked in confusion. “Midlife crisis…”
“Yep. I heard that human males, once they reach a certain age, gradually lose interest in that aspect, becoming all indifferent, even their bodies—tut-tut-tut, so that’s why you’ve been rejecting me all this time?”
“Nonsense! I’m only twenty-five! I’m in great shape! No midlife crisis here!”
Upon hearing this, Roswiser wore a triumphant smile.
For Leon, goading him was an old trick, but it worked like a charm.
“Well then, go take a bath.”
“…”
Leon finally realized he had fallen into another of Mother Dragon’s schemes.
Truth is, his constant rejections had nothing to do with any “midlife crisis,” but rather careful calculations about his future.
During the battle with the Empire, Leon first displayed a massive amount of magic by unleashing Dragon Extinction, depleting an entire Dragon Pattern’s worth of power.
Then he used the rest of his magic to open the ninth gate.
After the battle, his right leg was fractured from the backlash, still encased in a cast.
In short, Leon was currently in a fragile state.
If he were to try “weathering the storm” with Mother Dragon in this state, she would completely hold the reins of the situation.
Just thinking about it was terrifying!
That’s why Leon had been scrambling for all sorts of excuses to ward off Roswiser.
He was hoping to bide his time until he healed up a bit more before facing off against the Mother Dragon.
However, let’s be honest, you can’t sleep together and keep two different statuses!
Since Leon’s rejection stemmed from his current physical condition being unfit, easily losing the initiative;
You can bet Roswiser was thinking the same thing~
While he was down, she’d strike!
If he didn’t get a memorable ‘Dragon Slam’ now, he would probably forget his role as her captive!
And this scheme had been brewing in Roswiser’s mind ever since she returned from the Empire.
Today, she finally decided to go straight with Leon.
If this goofball rejected her again, she’d have to resort to some ‘violent’ measures.
The couple stared at each other.
After a moment, Leon relented, trying one last sob story,
“Roswiser, my leg is still healing, it’s kind of inconvenient… And what if I push too hard and make it worse? You wouldn’t want your husband to be on crutches forever, would you?”
“No worries, you don’t have to move.”
The Queen’s tone remained calm, yet she soon dropped a bombshell with her next statement,
“I can do the moving on top.”
Leon: ?
“Horrifying words! Horrifying words!!”
“Stop yelling; it’s not like we haven’t tried that position before.”
“St-still not okay…”
“Tsk.”
Roswiser’s brows furrowed as she impatiently clicked her tongue.
“If you say ‘no’ one more time, you’ll really ruin the mood.”
After a pause, Roswiser expressed some understanding of Leon’s current state,
“Fine, since it’s inconvenient, let’s switch to a relatively safer method.”
Leon looked up, an uneasy premonition creeping in,
“What… method?”
Suddenly, Roswiser stood up from the edge of the bed, her bare, white feet gliding over to him, then she raised her hand and gently unfastened her corset.
Two soft, bouncy orbs were suddenly freed.
Moonlight streamed through the window, shimmering on those tender bits.
The tantalizing scene made Leon’s face flush slightly.
“Roswiser…”
“It’s my first time trying this, so if I mess up, please be forgiving.”
“Uh?”
No, don’t do this, Mother Dragon! Saying that just makes me more anxious!
