Trapped in Paradise – Chapter 96

097. The Cowardly Cannon!

Ning Chu hadn’t even left yet, and Wen Yang was already flirting with another one!

If she walked out, what would happen?!

She stared at Wen Yang with wide eyes, but after a moment, she sulked and looked down. “Forget it, do as you please.”

Wen Yang’s words seemed like they were intentionally meant to make her worry, luring her to stay.

Even if what he said was true, how the plot developed after she left would have nothing to do with her.

Surely she wouldn’t be in another city taking a shower while Wen Yang suddenly popped up in her rental apartment, right?

“I’m not drinking either, I have some stuff to deal with tonight.”

Ning Chu froze and turned to look at Zhang Shaoqing.

This guy loved to chug a couple bottles with his barbecue, and now he wasn’t drinking?

Meeting her inquiring gaze, Zhang Shaoqing mumbled gloomily, “Ling Ling’s issue needs to be settled too.”

“!!!”

Ning Chu furrowed her brows, the image of a yellow-haired antagonist popping into her head. She couldn’t help but scold, “Are you crazy?! That was ages ago! Just find someone else!”

“She’s been my crush for over a decade. Finding someone else just isn’t her.”

“You…” Ning Chu was so irritated she could barely breathe. Taking a deep breath to calm herself, she rolled her eyes, “Fine, go ahead and make me mad.”

Just as she bit into a chicken leg, trouble brewed at Wang Jie’s end.

“If you guys aren’t drinking, then I will,” Wang Jie boldly opened a box of liquor and set a bottle on the table.

“What’s your deal?”

“I… I…” Wang Jie hesitated, “I got a big payout again—just feeling a bit down.”

“…”

Oh great, one after another are like hidden dragons and crouching tigers!

Ning Chu couldn’t be bothered to deal with them. It was clear they had come prepared, plotting to keep her in the dorm with their petty issues.

After previously ruining the plot, she had been left with the image of the meddlesome and caring big sister to her roommates. And these fools still thought she was really like that?

She shouldn’t have said that much earlier; now she had exposed her thoughts about never returning.

Seeing her silent and focused on the barbecue, the three big men quickly exchanged glances.

However, Zhang Shaoqing couldn’t hold back and began scolding, “What’s your deal? Acting all ready to leave and never come back! Are you quitting college?”

Wen Yang tried to stop him, but Zhang couldn’t be silenced: “If something happened at home, just say it! Why are you holding back? If something needs to be solved, you have to let it out! Why keep it all bottled up like a drama queen?”

“…”

“Is someone at home sick? In debt? I’ve got money!”

He slapped the table: “Speak! How much!”

Wen Yang, smiling wryly, said, “It’s probably not about money.”

It was obvious Ning Chu had revealed her female identity to him, and now she couldn’t stay in the dorm. But the other two didn’t know this, and he didn’t dare say it.

“Well, if that’s the case, nothing I can do. Let’s just eat barbecue…,” Zhang Shaoqing immediately sat back down.

“Can’t you just stay?” Wang Jie mumbled, “It feels weird with one less person in the dorm.”

Ning Chu sighed heavily.

“Forget it, don’t try to convince me.”

After eating a few random bites, Ning Chu stood up, grabbed her luggage beside the wardrobe, and hitched it up dramatically: “I’m leaving!”

“I’ll walk you out!”

“No need!”

Ning Chu purposely raised her voice to cover her inner disappointment. She pushed the door open and closed it behind her, but then she stood in the hallway, reluctantly glancing back at the door number.

Just two months…

She sighed softly and headed downstairs, pulling her luggage behind her.

In just two months, the soul from another world had blended into this dormitory, and that 1.6-meter tall boy had become a girl.

It was time to go.

With the dorm nearing eleven at night, there weren’t many students in the hallway. Passing by the first floor lobby, Ning Chu spotted the dorm supervisor uncle chatting with his little girlfriend.

“What are you doing out so late? The building closes at eleven!”

“I took a leave to go back for a bit!”

“Where’s your leave slip?”

“…” Ning Chu quickly switched tactics, “I’ll bring it to you tomorrow when I return to cancel my leave. I’ve already spoken to the instructor.”

Pausing for a moment, she stepped outside the dorm.

The sky was a dark, oppressive gray, with no stars or moon visible—instead, it felt like the world was cloaked in a giant curtain.

Behind her, the distant laughter of students echoed, while ahead, the dim streetlights flickered. Looking up towards the end of the path, it was an abyss of blackness.

Ning Chu’s feet froze in place as she nervously scanned her surroundings, a hand resting on her abdomen.

She bit her lip, her eyes wide with vigilance.

“It can’t be that quick, right?”

The night wind chilled her, making her shiver. She gripped her luggage tightly and hurried towards the door.

After a few steps, she suddenly glanced back.

It felt like someone’s gaze was still on her, sending shivers down her spine.

A thick wave of unease enveloped her; her steps quickened and her eyes darted around every corner. She felt like she might crack—it was unexpectedly nerve-wracking to be out alone.

A student approached, head down, engrossed in their phone, lumbering straight towards her.

Ning Chu’s feet went stiff with fright, her heart racing as she focused intently on the student, her feet instinctively inching back until they turned the corner.

So scary!

A tentacle monster could suddenly leap out from the bushes! The pedestrian coming her way might suddenly go berserk! And tonight’s lodging was even riskier—a high-risk zone! Both in the Little Emperor’s narrative and reality, it was a barrage of chaos.

“What are you doing out late…”

“Exactly, out late—maybe it’s better not to walk?”

“!!”

Ning Chu jolted at the sound and turned to see Wen Yang lazily strolling around the corner: “Since you wouldn’t let me walk you, I had no choice but to follow behind.”

“It’s pretty dangerous out at night, plus you’re afraid of the dark.”

The moment she saw Wen Yang, all her unease melted away. The tightness in her nerves relaxed, and the night’s coldness felt warmer.

She looked at Wen Yang standing not too far away, her cheeks burning as she ducked her head, but couldn’t help taking tiny eager steps closer: “I still have to go…”

Standing beside him, she inhaled his familiar scent, her body softened. She squinted in comfort as a familiar sense of safety returned to her heart.

“Why do you have to leave? You were just fine living here.”

“You know I’m a girl… what if you suddenly think…”

Wen Yang laughed helplessly: “What? Am I that kind of person?”

YES! You totally are!

“Men can do anything when they get the urge.”

“A rabbit wouldn’t eat its own burrow,” he grinned as he stepped closer. “I promise not to tell those two about your situation, and I guarantee I won’t do anything crazy. Just go back, okay?”

“I… I’ll have to leave eventually. Am I supposed to live in the boys’ dorm for four whole years?”

Wen Yang took a step back: “How about this? Leave tomorrow instead? It’s dangerous for you to be out alone at night, and I just can’t let you go.”

“…”

Saying that, he took the initiative to pick up Ning Chu’s luggage and urged, “Let’s head back. Just one more night here.”

“Oh…”

Ning Chu bit her lip, lowered her head, and followed closely behind Wen Yang with tiny hurried steps.
