### 44. Possessiveness
In the afternoon, Yan Xinya’s 100-meter sprint finals were about to start.
Just as Ning Chu emerged from the cafeteria, she dragged Wen Yang to the track, waving at Yan Xinya, who was waiting at the starting line.
For the competition, Wolf Girl had dressed in tiny athletic shorts, showcasing her powerful thighs while her big gray tail swayed. The short-sleeved top revealed her toned midriff and highlighted her enviable abs, making her figure look particularly appealing.
Ning Chu stole a glance at Wen Yang’s expression and saw that he merely glanced at Yan Xinya, then lowered his head to check his phone, completely unfazed by Yan Xinya’s charm.
Well, look at that! He’s becoming more self-aware!
Before, he would actively dodge the girls’ advances. Now, he couldn’t even muster interest to take a glance.
Too bad she’s the one paying the price…
Ning Chu considered finding Wen Yang a gentle, non-playful girlfriend but worried that he might turn into a j*rk after tasting the sweetness of romance.
“Ning Chu.”
A cool voice came from behind. It was Lily, draped in her conservatively simple long dress and wide-brimmed hat, walking toward them gracefully.
“Were you here to watch Xinya’s finals too?” Ning Chu asked, pleased.
Lily made a small nod, softly responding, “Yeah.”
She fell silent for a moment, glanced at Wen Yang, then looked down and pulled out her phone from her bag to message Ning Chu.
“Are you dating Wen Yang?”
“Nope.”
Lily raised a skeptical eyebrow, looking at the two of them standing side by side as if they were conjoined twins.
“It’s all Xinya’s fault! I had nothing to do with it!”
This girl had a knack for shifting blame like a pro.
However, the idea of texting when they were practically face-to-face was a bit baffling for Ning Chu.
“Since you don’t like him, why not move out? Living in the boys’ dorm is inconvenient and even dangerous.”
“I’ll see how it goes.”
If it weren’t for the perverts outside of Wen Yang, Ning Chu would have moved out ages ago.
Isn’t it more fun to snuggle up in the girls’ dorm with the other girls? She knew staying in the boys’ dorm came with its own set of risks!
“It’s about to start.”
Ning Chu glanced over to the starting line, where the competitors were crouched down, ready to race.
“Yeah.” Lily, as always, didn’t say much.
In the finals, apart from Yan Xinya, there was also a cat, a dog, and even a rabbit.
Ning Chu momentarily felt like she was watching some sort of animal sports meeting…
Clearly, the beast-people had certain advantages over normal humans in some aspects; she could just imagine if it were the Olympics, the women’s category would be filled with various beast-people.
As for why there were no male beast-people in this world… well, it was based on Little Emperor Wen, and when Ning Chu wrote this, she was only thinking about how steamy it could get, never worrying about realism.
Ning Chu kept an eye on Yan Xinya, who was athletic and had already pulled ahead in the race, while contemplating what kind of girlfriend to set up for Wen Yang.
As long as she could ensure Wen Yang wouldn’t turn into a harem lead, that he could be responsible and devoted to a girlfriend, she absolutely needed to find him one.
With a girlfriend, the pure-hearted Wen Yang would ideally reject any deeper interactions with female side characters in the plot.
If things went smoothly, most of the plot in Little Emperor Wen could be disrupted, diverting Wen Yang’s affections away from her and stopping the constant entanglement.
Ning Chu first ruled out any female side characters from the story.
Even a girl like Lily, who was utterly uninterested in men, could potentially put Wen Yang in a tricky position due to her sensitive nature. If that happened, the pure-hearted Wen Yang would likely flip into a j*rk, and all her plans would go down the drain.
As for the other side characters… most had so much chaos in their private lives even dogs would shy away.
The only options left were random girls.
Ning Chu suddenly felt like a dad worrying over his son’s marriage!
Yan Xinya was actually a good choice. Her looks were on-par with any side character, and while she did love to stir the pot, her character wasn’t bad. Plus, she was fit, so sure to withstand the ups and downs…
“Wen Yang, what do you think of Xinya?”
The key here was Wen Yang’s opinion.
Wen Yang curiously looked at Ning Chu and then turned his gaze towards Yan Xinya, who was about to cross the finish line and claim victory, commenting, “She runs pretty fast.”
“……”
Ning Chu fell silent for a long moment before whispering, “I mean, do you like her?”
“Quite like her.”
For some reason, hearing that made her heart leap, and she instinctively retorted, “What’s so great about her? She always butts into everything!”
Lily and Wen Yang glanced at her in surprise almost simultaneously.
Ning Chu’s face flushed, and she looked down, stammering, “If she didn’t stir things up…”
Wen Yang cracked a slight smile, explaining, “I just mean she’s a good person, suitable as a friend—that’s all.”
“I know! What’s there to explain?”
“Are you trying to set me up with a girlfriend?”
Caught in her thoughts, Ning Chu felt a bit shy and gently replied, “Maybe…”
“No need.”
He’d make Ning Chu fall for him.
“Okay then…” Ning Chu mumbled softly.
What the heck! Her perfectly crafted plan had derailed before even taking off!
It wasn’t that Wen Yang’s “no need” rattled her, but it was the acidic realization that surged in her heart when she heard him say he liked someone else.
It felt like being a kid forced to share toys—she knew it was the right thing to do, but the thought of lending her toy to someone else was an absolute no-go, let alone giving it away.
She’d realized a while back that somewhere along the line, she’d developed a curious possessiveness over Wen Yang.
It was quite baffling…
“Champion!”
Suddenly jolted from her thoughts, Wolf Girl bounded over with enthusiasm. Ning Chu sidestepped just in time, watching Wolf Girl zoom past her, stumbling to a stop several meters ahead.
Having just run the 100-meter dash and she still had so much energy…
“Champion! Why aren’t you guys waiting for me at the finish line?”
Lily twirled a lock of hair around her finger, her face as unreadable as ever.
Wen Yang smiled and nodded, “Congrats.”
“Tonight, I’m treating everyone to dinner!” Yan Xinya declared cheerfully, wrapping an arm around Lily’s neck and waving grandly, “It’s on me!”
“Then I’m going to that barbecue place behind the school.”
In an instant, Wolf Girl’s expression dimmed. “No way, the most I can treat you to is the cafeteria… How little is the champion’s prize? You think you can rob me blind?”
Ning Chu quickly stole another glance at Wen Yang. Even though Yan Xinya was dressed quite revealingly, with skin on full display, Wen Yang only focused on Wolf Girl’s face.
Without a doubt, Wen Yang really had no interest in Yan Xinya.
A mixed feeling of regret and relief washed over her…
Suddenly, she noticed Wen Yang’s gaze momentarily lingering on Yan Xinya’s well-endowed figure, causing her nerves to tense up.
He just glanced and then turned back to her with an empty look.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Ning Chu smiled sweetly.
Wen Yang hurriedly shook his head, “N-nothing.”
