Trapped in Paradise – Chapter 152

58. The Role of the Dunce Roommate

As other female side characters launched a fierce attack on Wen Yang, Chen Xue merely sent him the occasional handmade sour plum soup to express her feelings, never daring to confess outright.

She always silently watched her crush from the corner.

This naive and innocent crush was like a lotus blooming out of mud in Little Emperor Wen, a refreshing sight that left Ning Chu feeling quite warm towards Chen Xue.

However!

The image of Chen Xue kissing Wen Yang flashed through her mind, and all that goodwill evaporated completely.

What a sly fox!

Her heart raced, bl**d pressure skyrocketing, and she instinctively clenched her fists, gritting her teeth as she muttered, “Vixen!”

In the next moment, Ning Chu suddenly realized how outrageous her words were. She froze for a moment, and a wave of shame crept up her cheeks.

What the heck! What am I saying?!

With Yan Xinya sporting that sugary sweet smile that looked like she just got her hands on candy, Ning Chu couldn’t lift her head, her face flushed, stammering, unsure how to explain herself.

I can’t really like Wen Yang, can I?

This is just possessiveness over my male protagonist! As the author, wanting possession is totally normal, right?

Just like how parents feel about their sons and daughters…

.

That reaction was just like a father looking at his son-in-law on the day of the wedding!

“Stop lying to yourself~”

Yan Xinya seemed to see through her inner struggle, giving her another gentle poke with a smile.

Ning Chu’s breath hitched, her head shaking in a frenzy, her mind spinning like a blender, denying, “No, no way!”

How long has it been since becoming a girl? How could I possibly like men already?

Lily nodded vigorously in agreement, quietly adding, “It looks like you like him.”

“Don’t be afraid.” This succubus was utterly expressionless, yet with a flickering gaze, she took another jab, “We are succubi, after all… right?”

Hearing Lily string together this long sentence in reality was as startling as her rapid-fire messages online.

But Ning Chu had no time to ponder such trivial matters; her heart felt like it was being crushed, as if the heart that once belonged to a man was slowly collapsing.

Sitting there in silence, her strong urge to escape made her once again bury her head in the sand like an ostrich.

“I-I have something to do.”

She suddenly jumped up and dashed for the door.

“I’m heading back!”

Yan Xinya tilted her head, watching Ning Chu scurry away, puzzled, “Why resist so much? Isn’t Wen Yang handsome?”

“He’s too big.” Lily nodded emphatically.

“Is that really all that’s on your mind?”

After last night’s heavy rain, the temperature dropped, and the sun wasn’t as scorching as last month.

Ning Chu anxiously drifted out of the girls’ dormitory, staring at her own feet, her mind a chaotic jumble.

“Hey! Watch where you’re walking!”

She accidentally bumped into a student coming in and out of the dorm, but she just shrank her neck, pressed her lips tight, and obliviously walked down the steps.

This shouldn’t be happening…

Could I really be falling for a man?

Even though her body had indeed become a woman, she had never regarded herself as such. If she had reactions to Wen Yang occasionally, wasn’t that just the pheromones doing their thing?

She admitted it! She really didn’t want to be away from Wen Yang, and he brought her a sense of security, but this was the world of Little Emperor Wen—seeking the protection of the protagonist halo was totally normal!

That so-called jealousy was merely an author’s concern for the protagonist! What’s wrong with a father not wanting his son to go astray?

Aimlessly wandering down the path in the dorm area, Ning Chu found herself in a daze, constantly rebutting Yan Xinya’s earlier remarks in her mind.

Do I really like Wen Yang?

Despite her efforts to argue against it, Yan Xinya and Lily’s words carved deep into her thoughts.

Maybe it is true?

Ning Chu sighed in dismay, shaking her head vigorously: “Why should I even think about this? What does it matter whether I like him or not?”

Avoiding Wen Yang from devolving into a stereotypical male protagonist, avoiding him from going into a spiral of fate was the real important matter right now.

And her current family, everything was so messy and chaotic; who had time to worry about personal feelings?

“But my heart is still so confused…”

Ning Chu sighed heavily.

Formerly a hardcore straight guy, if she were to genuinely like another man… would that mean her thoughts, s*xual orientation, and recognition had been completely assimilated by this body?

Did it mean that the person she used to be had been completely replaced?

After crossing over to this world, a little Emperor novel, her male exterior and consciousness from middle school were just a few things she had brought from her “hometown.”

“It’s getting harder to remember things from before.”

Ning Chu murmured gloomily.

Like a rootless floating weed, in this world of Little Emperor Wen with no sense of belonging…

She wandered into the convenience store, grabbed a bottle of cola, and silently scanned to pay.

When she was on her own, she always hesitated to talk.

Even though she was still wearing the coat that radiated the protagonist’s halo, she always thought everyone around her had ulterior motives; maybe a seemingly kind passerby was just a pervert lurking in everyday life.

Back at the dorm, Ning Chu pushed open the door.

“You’re back so early?” Zhang Shaoqing immediately turned to look at her, “I wanted green tea, why’d you get me cola?”

“……”

Ning Chu put the cola on her desk and climbed into bed.

“You’re ignoring me again! Only Wen Yang can cheer you up, huh?” Zhang Shaoqing, as always, kept his oblivious attitude, shaking his legs and making a loud noise against the wooden desk. “Hey, I heard you got better at gaming. Come down and duo queue with me?”

“I just hit Platinum at noon! Let me carry you, okay?”

“Feeling down? Why not have a little drink?”

“Ugh! Lily got taken to a hotel and I’m still here sulking!”

Ning Chu poked her head out of the blankets: “Back then, you were crying and howling about wanting to commit s*icide.”

“Feeling a bit better now?”

After a moment, she replied, “Yeah…”

The dorm soon fell into silence, Zhang Shaoqing silently browsing his phone, while Ning Chu curled up, burying her head deep in her blankets.

Suddenly, her phone vibrated; it was a message from Wen Yang.

“What’s up?”

Glancing at the message, Ning Chu sighed and asked, “Zhang Shaoqing, why are you telling Wen Yang I’m in a bad mood?”

“I can’t help it; just get someone else to talk to him.”

“I’m fine, okay?” She threw off the blankets and sat up, “Log in, let’s duo!”

“Wow~ So this is your idea of revenge?”

Ning Chu swiftly got out of bed, and seeing Zhang Shaoqing’s expression like he’d seen a ghost, her mood lifted significantly: “Didn’t you say you’d carry me?”

“If you’re too bad, I’ll yell at you.”

“Who was just bragging about hitting Platinum and saying they’d carry me? Who said they’d easily rack up ten kills?”

“Bull! I never said that!”

Indeed, healing the body and soul had to rely on a dunce roommate.
