68. What a Husband-Protecting Maniac!
As long as she was near Wen Yang, Ning Chu felt a strange surge of confidence and security.
After a night of anxious tossing and turning, her heart, which had been perpetually on edge, finally relaxed the moment she saw Wen Yang.
“Didn’t sleep well last night?” he asked casually.
“Mm-hmm.”
In the corner of the cafeteria, Ning Chu rested her chin in one hand while stirring her bowl of spicy noodle soup with the other. Her head drooped, her eyes half-open, and she couldn’t help but yawn occasionally.
Wen Yang sat beside her, observing her expression closely.
This morning, it was obvious to anyone that she’d been itching to see him—perhaps she’d faced some injustice in the girls’ dormitory.
But that didn’t make sense! After all, both he and Yan Xinya were practically her saviors; there was no reason for Ning Chu to hold a grudge against her.
“How’s living in the girls’ dorm? Getting used to it?” Wen Yang asked, genuine curiosity lacing his tone.
“Of course not…” Ning Chu yawned again. “It’s way quieter than our dorm, but I can’t sleep well in unfamiliar places.”
Especially with those late-night dorm talks that made her blush and her heart race!
She paused for a moment, not spilling the juicy gossip about the girls, but instead muttered, “That Lin Li is a real pain! Ever since last night, she keeps targeting me!”
Not that it was a complete exaggeration; just thinking about that vixen calling her “cute” made her fume.
“Lin Li…” Wen Yang’s face darkened. “Yeah, got it.”
Ning Chu squinted at Wen Yang’s expression and quickly backtracked, “She only talks too much; it’s not that serious.”
Lin Li was clearly still infatuated with Wen Yang, and if she could tarnish the girl’s image a little, that could put a stop to any of her flirtations.
After all, Lin Li’s storyline was all wrapped up; her future moves were unpredictable.
Plus, it was a great excuse…
Ning Chu organized her thoughts, sighed, and said, “I can’t fit in at the girls’ dorm at all… If I have to stay there for four days, I might just go crazy!”
“Or maybe…” she looked up hopefully, but the enthusiasm quickly fizzled out.
Sigh, just four days.
She couldn’t keep relying on Wen Yang like this…
At this rate, she really would end up as one of those little wives who couldn’t live without their husbands!
Ning Chu picked up her bowl and gulped down the remaining spicy noodle soup, choking a bit in the process and coughing a few times before wiping her mouth with a napkin and standing up.
“Let’s go, time for class…”
Then she turned towards the cafeteria entrance, only to freeze in her tracks, eyes wide as she spotted the Catgirl Qiao Qiao strutting in.
Oh no!
A female supporting character popping up now? Allowing Qiao Qiao to flirt with Wen Yang or, heaven forbid, let Wen Yang mess with the plot would be a disaster.
She’d already been punished twice; she could only imagine what the third time would bring!
Caught off guard, Ning Chu felt her fists clench as she watched Qiao Qiao walk over with a seemingly innocent smile.
“Wen Yang, bro~”
Wen Yang was tidying up his dishes when he heard that sugary voice and lifted his head to glance over.
Honestly, this Catgirl really was flat as a pancake.
In her twenties and still rocking that board-like figure—clearly, there was no developing left in her future.
He felt no attraction to this petite flat-panel girl, especially since Ning Chu, while modest, was a developing succubus with promise.
Wen Yang ignored Qiao Qiao’s greeting and finished cleaning up, heading straight to the recycling area.
Ning Chu, who had been anxiously tense, finally let out a breath of relief.
Yes! That’s it! Keep Qiao Qiao at arm’s length!
This way, she could prevent Qiao Qiao from giving up or prematurely ending their clubhouse drama and facing punishment and still keep her from really trying to seduce Wen Yang.
She trotted after Wen Yang, only to hear him chuckle, “From that look on your face earlier, you looked like a deer in headlights.”
“I hate her, so you better not talk to her anymore.”
“Sure, no talking,” he shrugged.
…
The classroom was half-full as Ning Chu, still groggy from her restless night, slumped over her desk the moment she sat down, drifting off into a daze.
Strangely, it felt more comfortable to sleep in class than in the girls’ dorm.
At least in here, she didn’t have to worry about any potential perverts lurking around.
But after just a few minutes of slumping, her arm went numb from being squished.
With half-open eyes, Ning Chu glanced at Wen Yang’s nearby forearm, and without thinking twice, she tilted her head and shamelessly used it as a pillow.
Wen Yang blinked in surprise, then looked down at her peacefully sleeping face.
“Are you okay with this?”
“Of course,” she mumbled sleepily.
“Then can you move your arm a bit closer?”
It seemed like Ning Chu wasn’t as averse to their close proximity as she once was.
Wen Yang suddenly realized this—Ning Chu used to purposely keep her distance, only occasionally brushing against him when whispering, or unintentionally leaning on him while dozing off on the bus…
But recently, hand-holding and kissing had clearly crossed her boundaries.
He could distinctly feel her soft face against his arm, her warm breath tickling the skin. A faint fragrance wafted from her, sweet and delightful, lifting his spirits.
It was just an arm resting against each other, and he wasn’t daydreaming—but his little buddy was definitely more than a bit excited.
Wen Yang nervously glanced around, shifting in his seat to hide his thighs under the desk.
“Good morning~”
Yan Xinya burst into the classroom, looking as lively as ever! She bounded over but immediately lowered her voice when she saw Ning Chu napping comfortably with her eyes closed, “Is she asleep?”
“Mm-hmm.”
“Perfect! She can nap in class while resting on her boyfriend’s arm~”
Wen Yang, the awkward little virgin, couldn’t handle the teasing and awkwardly evaded the gaze of Wolf Girl, “Don’t say that.”
He feared Ning Chu would be awake and eavesdropping, quickly clarifying, “It’s just a friendly arm pillow between bros. Totally normal!”
“Ah, right, right~”
Yan Xinya pulled Lily over and, as they both kneeled down to avoid being too loud, Yan Xinya scrutinized Ning Chu’s face.
“This shouldn’t be! She didn’t use any skincare last night, and she never wears makeup. How come her skin is so good?” She turned to Lily and exclaimed, “What about you?! Why are you so lucky?!”
“…”
Lily said nothing, quietly flipping through her book as if she were a studious scholar.
“Xinya, from Wednesday night to Sunday, Ning Chu will be staying in your dorm for four days,” Wen Yang reminded, looking up earnestly, “Make sure to take care of her.”
“Got it!” Yan Xinya nodded vigorously.
“Can’t you just skip class and stay?” she grumbled a bit.
Wolf Girl suddenly noticed Ning Chu’s eyelashes flutter, her eyes widening in alarm. Before Wen Yang could answer, she insisted, “What if you don’t leave? Aren’t you worried that when you return, Ning Chu might already have a boyfriend?!”
“Uh… I doubt that will happen?”
“Why wouldn’t it? Is my Ning Chu not pretty enough?” Yan Xinya rambled confidently. “Look at you, all handsome and popular, but economically, you can’t compare to other guys!”
“There are plenty of richer, better-looking guys out there… ouch!”
Wolf Girl looked down in shock, catching sight of Ning Chu’s foot resting on her shoe!
What a husband-protecting maniac!
While she was giddy chewing on candy, she grimaced in pain and quickly assured, “Yeah, totally comparable, you’re great in every way!”
Ning Chu, in a huff, stepped down harder.
“Oops! My bad!”
