Trapped in Paradise – Chapter 213

Chapter 229. Ghost!

It’s a rare sight, Zhang Shaoqing actually showed up at the cafeteria today.

In the past few months, this guy had come to the cafeteria so few times that you could count them on one hand.

When a few people came back with their plates, Ning Chu glanced at the pretty sad excuse for a soup in his bowl, then stole a look at Wen Yang’s plate… This rich kid was eating worse than Wen Yang today!

At least Wen Yang had a meat and a veggie! Zhang Shaoqing had only ordered two servings of vegetables.

“Hey, so Ning Chu, are you not going back to the dorm anymore?”

“Probably not.”

Wang Jie looked up in confusion and asked, “Why not? Did you find a girlfriend and are moving in together?”

Zhang Shaoqing snickered, “Maybe it’s a boyfriend~”

“Our dorm is so boring with just the two of us!”

He threw an arm around Wang Jie’s shoulder, grinning like a fool, “They both betrayed us! No worries, even if I find a girlfriend, I won’t move out!”

“I don’t believe that.”

“……”

Ning Chu suddenly realized that Wang Jie didn’t know she was a girl.

This goofy guy probably never even suspected it.

Zhang Shaoqing seemed pretty unreliable, always acting overly familiar with everyone, but surprisingly kept her secret quite well.

“Wen Yang, are you going back to the dorm tonight?”

“Uh…”

“Yeah, going back.”

Ning Chu answered for Wen Yang.

Wen Yang shot her a slightly resentful glance, while she lowered her head, feeling her cheeks flush with embarrassment as she took a couple bites of her food.

She was mainly afraid her hands would give out; if this kept up, she’d be working her way to gaining some serious muscle!

Plus, being pressed against every night made her worry that her body might betray her and do something impulsive.

“Oh~” Zhang Shaoqing looked back and forth at the two across from him and felt something was off.

“Why are you eating so little today?”

Ning Chu switched the topic to avoid Zhang Shaoqing’s inquiries.

“Dieting.”

“Or maybe you’re just out of money?” She picked up her phone from the side, “Want me to lend you some?”

Zhang Shaoqing’s eyes lit up, but then he heard her next line: “Seven in, thirteen out—give me seven hundred, and I’ll want back thirteen. Throw in a fruit photo as collateral, and if you don’t pay me back, I’ll send it to your mom.”

“Get lost!”

Despite that, Ning Chu still transferred Zhang Shaoqing a hundred bucks, just to make sure he could afford food.

She was still doing pretty well financially. Not counting living expenses, her mom had given her two thousand for rent, and she still had a few hundred left. Her brother’s five hundred also hadn’t been touched much.

Wen Yang glanced at Ning Chu’s phone operations, feeling a bit sour, but still asked with concern, “So your mom stopped your living expenses?”

“Not really? I splurged a bit last night and realized I’d run out of cash.”

“……”

Ning Chu suddenly thought about asking him to pay her back that hundred bucks.

“I could have asked my mom for some more, but we had a fight… so forget it.”

Zhang Shaoqing was still rebelling against his mom—he hadn’t gone back the last few weekends and had stopped giving her nightly updates about his day.

For him, money was nothing compared to not being controlled by his mother.

Ning Chu looked at Zhang Shaoqing, not spotting any negative emotions on his annoying face.

Now more at ease, she nodded and said, “Well, just stay hungry then, and pay me back soon.”

“I won’t starve, I can mooch off meals every day; the cafeteria food is free anyway.” Zhang Shaoqing said, abruptly snagging a piece of meat from Wang Jie’s plate.

He wore that proud smile despite Wang Jie’s disapproving gaze. “I could even fatten myself up!”

The shameless really are unbeatable in this world.

Ning Chu quietly pushed her plate closer, keeping a wary eye on Zhang Shaoqing, afraid he’d snatch away the chicken leg she was saving for Wen Yang.

“I’m full. Wang Jie, eat faster; let’s head back to play games.”

“Ning Chu, I’ll pay you back that hundred once I have money. Thanks!”

She shot Zhang Shaoqing an eye roll. “Just don’t bug me all the time.”

Before long, Zhang Shaoqing dragged Wang Jie away, and only then did Ning Chu feel safe enough to move her plate in front of Wen Yang.

She propped her chin up with one hand, glancing at Wen Yang’s handsome profile, and asked, “Are we heading to the library later?”

“Yeah, or do you want to go somewhere else? I’ll tag along.”

“Hmm… Let’s just hit the library. I need to write a novel.”

“You really writing?”

“What else? Gotta make money!”

Wen Yang scooped up the remaining food, mixing it with the broth, and in no time at all, polished it off.

“Let’s go.”

The library was quiet, and with it being mealtime, there weren’t many students hanging around.

They found a corner and sat down. Ning Chu pulled out her phone, downloaded a word processing app, then cradling her phone, stared blankly at the empty document.

Though she already had ideas swirling around, when it actually came to writing, her brain just couldn’t organize any decent sentences.

When she was writing Little Emperor Wen, her thoughts flowed like a fountain, and she could whip out thousands of words in an hour.

Must be that she wasn’t used to typing on her phone…

Wen Yang glanced at her dazed expression but didn’t think much of it.

Writing novels for money sounded pretty far-fetched. With how easily distracted Ning Chu got while gaming, imagining her sitting still and seriously typing out a novel was just hard to picture.

He didn’t have any expectations for her to write novels for money at all.

“I’m going to grab some books.”

“Okay.”

Wen Yang stood up and walked over to the bookshelf, scanning the spines in search of something interesting.

He hadn’t gone far when he suddenly felt his foot connect with something. Looking down, he saw it was a girl in a red dress.

She was sitting on the floor engrossed in a book, and he hadn’t noticed and accidentally kicked her.

“Sorry.” Wen Yang quickly apologized.

The girl looked up, revealing a familiar face, and that distinct dimple.

From top to bottom, the dimple was deep enough to make anyone uneasy.

“Little brother? We meet again~”

It was that staff member from the school’s service center, looking quite youthful despite already being in the workforce.

“You…”

“I’m organizing books!” The girl didn’t even bother standing up, puffing her chest out and tugging at her work badge.

Librarian, An An.

Wen Yang’s usual smile quickly vanished.

Though his gaze still followed a man’s instinct to glance at that sizeable and alluring deep cleft, he immediately took two steps back, said nothing, just politely nodded, and turned to leave.

He hadn’t forgotten that back at the service center, this girl had almost invited him to stay the night.

“Hey! Don’t go~” An An nimbly got up, scurrying right behind Wen Yang, “What a coincidence! We’re really fated~”

“Why does it feel like I’m seeing a ghost when I see a sister? Why are you running so fast?”

“Seriously~”

Wen Yang hurriedly wove through the dense shelves, just reaching the reading area when the alluring sound of An An’s voice suddenly vanished from his ears. He turned around to find she had somehow disappeared.

“Achoo!”

“Caught a cold?” Ning Chu had just entered the zone of typing, her thumbs flying on the phone, not lifting her head. “Want to wear my trench coat? I’m feeling a bit warm.”

“No, thanks.” Wen Yang rubbed his nose as he sat down, complaining, “Just ran into a girl who wouldn’t stop pestering me.”

“!!!”

Ning Chu instantly perked up, looking around nervously: “Where is she?!”

“Who knows, she suddenly vanished, like a ghost.”

“Ghost?” She zeroed in on that point.

“Don’t be superstitious.” Wen Yang tapped her little head. “I saw her before at the school’s service center, An An, remember? The one in the red dress?”

“Ghost!” Ning Chu was even more convinced.

So, this little Succubus girlfriend seems to have it all together, but they’re already in college—why are they still believing in ghosts and gods?
