Chapter 22: Deep in Thoughts
Everything in Qi Yuan City had returned to normal.
Night Lan and the others, just like the rest of the townsfolk, attended the grand performance of the Rising Sun Theater Group.
Zero Meow reminisced about the scenes in her mind, wearing a look that screamed “I have something to say, but I don’t know how.”
“Even though it was pretty good, why was it so weird, meow?”
Night Lan didn’t respond.
From an audience’s perspective, it was definitely a bit strange. The improvised plot took unexpected turns.
But the fact that the show made it through was enough to make Night Lan feel satisfied. She had fun, and that’s what mattered—who cares if it was a total mess?
As for whether the performance was spectacular, that was up to the other audience members to judge.
White Fish spotted Night Lan and smiled, “The audience performer’s acting was amazing!”
Clearly, this statement was not just a thank you but also a compliment aimed at Night Lan.
Night Lan nodded, not a blush in sight.
“It really was.”
She was no longer filled with self-doubt; she had strong acting skills when she put her heart into it!
It wasn’t just White Fish who found it enjoyable; Neko Shinna and Star Yoon also thought the improvised play was pretty interesting. So, the show could be deemed competent.
After all, a good performance is one that satisfies the audience, right?
Soon, Zero Meow stopped pondering the bizarre plot and shifted her focus onto the audience performer.
After all, the storyline was just too odd.
“I have to say, the character the audience performer portrayed was super cool! This cat has decided! I’m going to draw her as a fan art when I get back! She seems like a cool, serious girl, and I can’t wait to get to know her more, meow~”
Seeing Zero Meow’s excited expression, Night Lan hesitated to speak.
Sorry, but the audience performer you’re raving about is literally right in front of you. Not a cool and serious girl, but a loli who just loves slacking off and being a bit lewd—seriously, my bad!
“Oh well.”
Night Lan shook off the weird thoughts in her head and proposed an idea to White Fish and the others.
“We still have plenty of time today. How about I show you around Qi Yuan City? There are tons of unique spots worth seeing, like the food and entertainment district that Shinna might be interested in, the gaming entertainment district that Star Yoon would love, and the calligraphy and painting entertainment district that Zero Meow would enjoy—they’re all pretty great.”
Zero Meow and the others instinctively agreed to Night Lan’s suggestion.
But then Zero Meow suddenly thought of something.
“Meow… but what about Yun Chang City? If someone discovers we’ve disappeared, we’re definitely getting punished. Plus, we didn’t come to Qi Yuan City through proper channels—Night Lan’s secret might get exposed…”
Night Lan casually patted her head.
“No need to worry, we can always return to the Rising Sun Theater. We’ll just go back to Zero Meow’s resting room from there, and nobody will ever know we were having fun in Qi Yuan City.”
Zero Meow pondered this.
Night Lan had a point, but would it really work?
She had a bad feeling about it.
But with everyone in such high spirits, it felt a bit off to argue against it.
And besides, Zero Meow wanted to explore Qi Yuan City, rumored to have five major entertainment districts. No matter how mature one is, a part of them as a little girl never really goes away.
“Then it’s decided, meow! I’ll be responsible for keeping you all safe, so don’t do anything dangerous!” Zero Meow proclaimed.
She had officially appointed herself as the guardian of Night Lan and the others.
After all, she was the most experienced Night Watcher in the group, even if it wasn’t by much.
Thus, the adventure of Night Lan and the others in Qi Yuan City began.
Meanwhile…
At the Night Watcher Base in Qi Yuan City, Hei Yang and the others finally let out a sigh of relief.
During that grand performance, their nerves were through the roof.
Buildings were crashing down one after another, turning into ruins in a heartbeat. If you didn’t know any better, you’d think the apocalypse had arrived.
The most nerve-wracking part was when dozens of medium and below-level unfamiliar Star Eclipses popped up during the performance, seemingly aiming to create chaos to fulfill their own obsessions.
Without a doubt, they were the sensitive types hidden away shortly after their birth.
They could sense changes in society and realized that if they caused trouble, they’d be risking their lives, which is why they stayed tucked away in unnoticed corners, not emitting any Star Eclipse energy to avoid detection by Night Watchers.
However, the enormous Star Eclipse energy that burst forth from the members of the Rising Sun Theater today shrouded the entire Qi Yuan City, making those hidden Star Eclipses feel like it was their time to come out.
Hei Yang speculated that they probably thought a big shot was stirring up a ruckus that would draw attention, so they decided to sneak out and satisfy their obsessions amidst the chaos.
Who would’ve thought it was just an exaggerated theater performance that totally fooled those Star Eclipses?
To make matters more unexpected, the appearance of those unfamiliar Star Eclipses triggered the fury of the Rising Sun Theater members.
After all, they were essentially disruptive villains on stage, so the group leader gathered them for a little “chat” about their behavior.
And that chat? Well, it was extinction.
You have to admit, eradicating those dozen or so Star Eclipses was the best thing for Qi Yuan City—no drawbacks!
The hidden Star Eclipses were anything but harmless; they were unstable bombs just waiting to jeopardize the safety of the citizens.
And they definitely weren’t the “soft-hearted” types.
When it comes to charming Star Eclipses with gentle obsessions, the Night Watchers might turn a blind eye sometimes. As long as they didn’t disrupt the order, it was all good.
But those wanting to stir trouble? That was a different story.
Those hidden Star Eclipses were definitely the wicked kinds, always up to no good—no innocent ones among them. It was a blessing to eliminate them in one fell swoop!
At least for the foreseeable future, the Night Watchers of Qi Yuan City wouldn’t be scrambling to respond to weird incidents—workload significantly decreased.
Not too shabby, Hei Yang thought.
“Speaking of which, I really should thank the Rising Sun Theater Group. But after this performance, they should be leaving Qi Yuan City, right? That means the audience performer won’t be around anymore.”
Mo Qianmeng shot a sideways glance at the tiny leader, suddenly wanting to roll her eyes.
Who was in such a rush earlier, acting all worried like the city was going to fall apart?
But once everything returned to normal, Hei Yang’s expression flipped like a pancake.
Yet he made a valid point.
The audience performer would indeed be leaving Qi Yuan City.
After this, Mo Qianmeng wouldn’t be able to see her again, and it could turn into a permanent farewell.
There was actually one thing she still wanted to clarify with the audience performer.
That was the complete dark history of Mo Tu.
In the end, all she got was the vague term “Mo Rabbit,” without any complete backstory at all.
“By the way… should we contact the audience performer and ask about the next dark history?”
Mainly because she couldn’t stop thinking about it, and not knowing was driving her crazy!
