395. Housebreaking!
1/12
At six o’clock, as classes ended, the sky had already darkened, and the school’s streetlights flickered to life.
Ning Chu once again turned down Zhang Shaoqing’s invitation for dinner and karaoke, making a quick detour with Wen Yang to avoid the crowd heading back to the dormitory and headed toward the school gates.
“Wang Jie! Are you going?”
“If my girlfriend finds out, I’ll be dead…”
“d*mn! I’ll hang out with Qian Qian then!”
From behind, they heard the loud and obnoxious voice of his friend, but Ning Chu just snickered silently to herself.
With her feeding Qian Qian all sorts of ideas, that guy had almost zero chance of getting a date with her.
However, she wasn’t sure if Zhang Shaoqing and Qian Qian were a good match. Setting aside the unique XP that his facial features delivered, there was quite an age gap between them. Even if they did end up together, their parents would definitely have something to say about it.
“What do you want to eat tonight?” Wen Yang asked, wrapping his warm hand around Ning Chu’s chilly one. “Should we cook or order takeout?”
“Let’s go for takeout! There’s not even a smoke machine at home—what can we really make?”
“Career planning… Ning Chu, what do you think I should do in the future?”
Having just finished a career planning class, Ning Chu couldn’t help but feel a little lost about her own future.
Although she was confident in Wen Yang, aside from being a time-traveler who used to be a guy, she really felt clueless about her future job prospects.
She didn’t have a clue what she could actually do!
“You could write your novel, right? Didn’t you have a ton of readers?”
“Had a bunch before… now I can only try for perfect attendance,” she said with a frown, “I don’t even know what to write for the next book. I’ve finished my autobiography!”
Wen Yang chuckled, “Didn’t you just tell me not to overthink my future? The more you think, the more annoyed you get. Now you’re starting, too?”
Ning Chu looked up at him, her eyes sparkling. “You’re different! You’re the main character! Everything you do is bound to be awesome!”
“Not me…” The sparkle quickly faded, and the little succubus mumbled gloomily, “Can’t game, can’t write novels without starving myself, and studying isn’t my strong suit either.”
“But you’re my author! How could you be worse than me?”
“Hey~ That’s easy to say…”
“It’s alright. Just do what you want to do. I’ll handle the money matters later.”
Ning Chu shot Wen Yang a glance but then broke into a smile. “Then I’ll be a shut-in vase at home! The kind that doesn’t do any chores!”
“Sure.”
“Then I’ll get bored to d*ath in just a few days.”
“Ah—” she sighed dramatically, “When will my novel be adapted into a comic or a drama? Then I wouldn’t have to worry about food for the rest of my life!”
As they chatted, they arrived at the bus station outside the school. Ning Chu leaned against Wen Yang’s chest, peering eagerly down the road, waiting for the bus to arrive.
With Wen Yang’s hands wrapped around her waist, a thought from earlier about her conversation with Yan Xinya surfaced in her mind.
Her pesky Aunt Flo was indeed late this month.
Although she had gotten used to life as a woman, compared to those native girls, she was still rather oblivious to certain cues. If it weren’t for Yan Xinya’s reminder, she might not have even noticed.
Frowning, she thought about the usual frequency—it should have arrived three to five days ago.
Yet today, her lower belly still felt as inactive as a lazy cat.
But a few days late must be normal, right?
She searched online and nodded confidently, “Yep, perfectly normal.”
“The bus is here.”
As the doors hadn’t even opened, the thirty passengers at the bus stop began to push and shove like it was a crowded concert.
No one was really giving way; everyone was a young, strong student here.
“Wen Yang! Go! Snag us a spot!”
Wen Yang, like a wolf entering a sheep pen, cleaved through the crowd easily, making room as he stormed forward and was the first to hop on the bus, claiming a two-seat row in the back.
He turned to look out the window at Ning Chu, who was still bouncing on her toes outside, clearly flustered.
A light whiff of perfume caught his nose, and he blinked, noticing the girl sitting next to him fidgeting nervously as she met his eyes and gripped her phone tighter. “Um, can I get your WeChat?”
“Absolutely not!!!”
A high-pitched voice suddenly boomed, and Ning Chu, who had been standing outside, dashed through the bus doors, marching her way from the front to the back, looking utterly furious.
That girl turned pale at Ning Chu’s imposing aura and hurriedly vacated her seat, retreating a good distance away.
Finally, panting, Ning Chu plopped down next to Wen Yang and tucked a few stray hairs behind her ear. When she looked up, she found Wen Yang grinning widely.
“What are you laughing at?”
“Just saw you struggling to get on outside, and in a blink, you were on top of that girl!”
“Of course I was in a rush when I saw a bad woman sitting next to you!”
Seeing all the other passengers suddenly turn their gaze on her made her face heat up. She quickly looked down and muttered, “What are you staring at? Never seen a main character taking care of a bad woman before?”
“Main character…”
“There are no concubines, so don’t even think about it!”
Wen Yang burst out laughing. “I can barely handle you alone—why would I want anyone else?”
“That’s one way to put it…”
And who even can’t handle whom?! What a nonsense!
Ning Chu yawned, now uninterested in arguing, and shot a glare at that girl who had just tried to flirt with Wen Yang before leaning against him.
One slip-up, and she could have lost her home!
Not like she was even that pretty—what gave her the confidence to steal my man?
Though Wen Yang would surely reject her, her defenses shot up whenever she saw pretty strangers trying to chat him up, terrified they were the plot’s female side character.
What if it happened to be a plot twist, like Wen Yang being drugged at a dinner party…
Ning Chu couldn’t guarantee that this good-hearted girl would always manage to come out clean in every scenario.
After a few stops, the bus finally pulled up to the village where the rental apartments were located.
Ning Chu and Wen Yang were the first to disembark, and as they turned, they noticed four or five other students living nearby getting off from the back.
At the village entrance, a few snack stalls were set up. The village that had been quiet yesterday was bustling today, thanks to the new term starting.
“Want to grab a sausage to eat?”
Passing the snack stall, the delicious smell of grilled sausages made her stomach grumble in protest.
“Didn’t you just eat?”
The teasing comment made her ears burn, and she shot a glare at Wen Yang. “You’re treating!”
“Are you asking me to buy you dinner?”
Her face turned even redder. She peeked around nervously, lowering her voice, “People will hear you!”
“No one’s around—don’t worry.”
“Wait, there’s a vampire over there! They’ll definitely hear!”
She pointed at the little succubus in the distance, who she recognized as Nana, a former sufferer of severe male phobia.
Nana raised her hands, covering her pointy ears.
What a classic case of trying to hide and failing miserably! Of course, she heard them!
“If you were a bit calmer, she might not have twisted the meaning.”
“…”
