438. The Unreasonable Ning Chu
8/12
“Ugh, I feel awful…”
Lying limply on the bed of her rental apartment, Ning Chu was pitifully tugging at Wen Yang’s shirt while looking up at him with misty eyes.
Seeing the weak, helpless expression on the little succubus, Wen Yang felt his heart squeeze. He reached out to pat Ning Chu’s head soothingly. “I’ll go grab some food in a bit. After you eat and take your medicine, you can take a nap. I’ll help you get the afternoon off.”
“Just help me get the afternoon off?”
“Well… I can take the afternoon off too and stay home to take care of you.”
Ning Chu finally nodded in satisfaction, then weakly rested her head on Wen Yang’s thigh, sniffing loudly.
Even though she felt under the weather, it wasn’t bad enough to require a day off.
In fact, back when she was still a guy, she wouldn’t even bother with medicine for a little illness. She’d just tough it out for a day or two without touching that pill bottle, even if it was just sitting there on the table.
She didn’t like appearing pitiful in front of others either, but this was her boyfriend.
In times like this, she had to play the helpless card to trick Wen Yang into taking care of her!
That concerned look he gave her was just the kind of heartwarming she needed.
The little succubus lay on Wen Yang’s thigh, feigning a dramatic illness while her low-grade fever barely ached.
“Paper.”
Wen Yang quickly fished out two tissues and handed them over, but Ning Chu just tilted her head back and wrinkled her nose.
“This isn’t a low-grade fever; it’s paralysis!”
“My arm muscles hurt~ Ouch~ I can come over by myself if you’re disgusted.”
He shook his head, laughing as he helped Ning Chu blow her nose.
“What do you want for lunch?”
“I don’t have much of an appetite…”
“Come on, eat a little, how about steak? You need some protein to get better.”
Suddenly, Ning Chu perked up, nodding vigorously. “Sure! I haven’t had steak in ages! Is it expensive?”
“Takeout is probably just over forty a serving. One serving should be enough for you.”
Wen Yang busied himself with his mobile phone. “It’s been raining these past couple of days; takeout might be slow, so it’ll probably arrive around noon.”
“I want cola~”
“No way.”
“Cola is good for colds! Have you ever heard of cola ginger tea?”
He glanced down at Ning Chu, who was trying to convince him, rolling his eyes. “Never heard of it. You just want it because you’re craving it. I’ll get you some hot water.”
Lifting her head off his thigh, Wen Yang stood up to grab the kettle, but was quickly met with a flurry of movement from the bed.
Turning around, he saw the little succubus winding her tail around her waist and rolling back and forth on the bed like an out-of-control brat.
“If I can’t have cola, I’m gonna d*e~ I’m dying~ Gah!”
As he watched her flop dramatically and pretend to be dead with her head lolling to the side, Wen Yang couldn’t help but smack her perky little backside. “Cut it out! You can’t drink cola when you have a cold!”
“Oh~”
It was rare to see Ning Chu so eager to act cute.
Usually, when she tried to be cutesy, she’d be a bit shy, but today her voice was all squeaky and over-the-top, giving her a childish charm that was both adorable and comical.
Wen Yang mused, “Can a low-grade fever really fry your brain?”
While he was busy boiling water, Ning Chu had already climbed off the bed, wrapped in her quilt, and settled back at the head of the bed.
“Wen Yang, I’m planning on becoming a magical girl.”
“You really must’ve fried your brain.”
“What? But Qian Qian is around! Two magical girls can’t handle one!?”
Ning Chu’s expression turned serious, dropping the earlier silliness. “Plus, I suspect that the octopus Lily is raising is actually a tentacle monster. If we wait too long, who knows when Lily might end up in a tentacle situation!”
After a beat, she added quietly, “Though she might actually be quite okay with that…”
That little octopus looked like it had jumped straight out of an anime, even fresher than the tentacle toys at Lily’s place.
They even had egg-laying toys at the succubus’s house!
Wen Yang frowned and shook his head again. “I said no, so no. Don’t think you can act up just because you’re sick.”
“But the tentacle monster was based on a story I wrote…”
“Don’t flatter yourself. Your novel just happened to coincidentally align with reality.”
With a dark face, he slammed the kettle onto the table with a loud thud, making Ning Chu flinch and pull her head back.
It seemed this case wasn’t going to get approved.
Ning Chu quickly raised her head, her face full of mock complaint. “You’re being mean to me!”
“I’m not.” Wen Yang immediately put on a charming smile, scooting closer to sit by her. “Just focus on getting better and stop thinking about silly things.”
“Humph!”
With her cheeks puffed out like a blowfish, Ning Chu crossed her arms and turned her head away to avoid looking at Wen Yang.
“Oops, my bad, I won’t be mean anymore.”
No wonder some girls can be so spoiled and unreasonable!
Just a little pouty face and they get coddled, and after a while, they end up overly pampered!
She was starting to show signs of being spoiled by Wen Yang too.
Ning Chu mumbled in her head, acting as though nothing had happened. She relaxed her angry expression and leaned comfortably against Wen Yang. “Did you order the steak?”
“Ordered it already.”
“What about you?”
“I’m just going downstairs to get fried noodles.”
“Make sure to eat some steak too since I won’t finish it all.”
Suddenly, her lower eyelid twitched, her body stiffened as she leaned back, nose twitching slightly before she sneezed.
“Ha~choo!”
The sneeze nearly shook her head, and when she realized what happened, she noticed a string of clear snot dangling from her nose, wobbling dangerously close to landing on her quilt.
Panicking, she pointed at the nightstand. “Paper! Paper!”
Wen Yang quickly grabbed a tissue to help her out, chuckling. “The sound of your sneeze is pretty cute.”
“Cute, my foot~ I’m about to cry!”
Suddenly, there was a gentle knock at the door, and both of them froze, hearing Qian Qian’s voice from outside.
“Are you home?”
“Yeah, what’s up?” Wen Yang got up to open the door, his eyes immediately sharpening with caution.
She isn’t here to drag our little succubus into becoming a magical girl, is she?
“Have you seen Little Black? I woke up this morning and couldn’t find it.” Qian Qian peeked inside the room.
Ning Chu, seated at the head of the bed, had dropped the earlier cutesy act and was much more serious. “Isn’t that standard issue for every magical girl?”
Qian Qian shook her head. “Not really~ Think of it like a newbie mentor from a game. They stick around with new recruits for a while.”
“Then if it walked away from you, doesn’t that mean it’s already contracted with a suitable magical girl?”
It dawned on her. “Definitely! I wonder which girl got duped by it.”
Wen Yang breathed a sigh of relief; without any slots available for magical girls, even if Ning Chu wanted to, she couldn’t become one.
Unless another tentacle monster crashed down from the heavens.
He glanced out the window.
Ning Chu kept sneezing, clutching a tissue box, occasionally wiping her nose, her voice thick with congestion. “By the way, can a magical girl only contract with a succubus? Why is the black cat so interested in me and Lily?”
“Huh? You’re a succubus?!”
“……”
“No wonder you carry so much lustful energy!”
