Chapter 40: The Three Protectors
“Is Tifureka going to protect that Qing Liao Songstress? If so, she must get to be close to her, right? I’m so jealous.”
Bai Ji Kanata said with clear envy, obviously a big fan of Qing Liao Songstress.
In the Free Country, very few people didn’t like listening to Qing Liao Songstress’s songs. Once you heard her music, it was easy to fall in love with her—even criminals fell for her tunes. Apparently, over ninety percent of inmates in prisons were her fans—one could say they’d all listened and probably enjoyed her voice.
Of course, “fans” isn’t exactly accurate. They had just listened and liked what they heard. In fact, Qing Liao Songstress had contributed no less than a dozen English songs to the Free Country, earning countless fans. Under such immense influence, it’s quite normal for even Bai Ji Kanata to be a fan. Not only Bai Ji Kanata, but even Sylvia and others had heard her songs, and they all gave her a solid thumbs up.
That being said, there were still many who wanted to harm Qing Liao Songstress. Aside from those power-hungry beings who saw everything through the lens of profit, there were also obsessive fans of hers who were quite… twisted. You know, those fans who take their admiration to a whole new level of twisted. Some couldn’t just listen to her songs; they wanted to meet her, talk to her, or even have a closer relationship with her. Unfortunately, meeting Qing Liao Songstress wasn’t as easy as that.
So, some extremely twisted individuals decided to go the criminal route to get near her. This was exactly why the world’s songstress needed stronger security forces.
Ordinary folks might not cause much trouble, but let a Star Holder get involved, and that could turn into a full-blown disaster.
In this sort of pressure-cooker situation, even the least likely person could feel the strain. Tifureka taking on Qing Liao Songstress’s protection duty was a clear display of her strength.
She was no ordinary night watcher; she was a Holy Knight. And when you looked at the Holy Knight ranking system side by side with the Zhonghua domestic Sunlight Night Watchers, it wasn’t that different—it was merely a recognition of one’s prowess.
However, things were a bit more rigid in the Order of Sequence—fighting personnel had rankings, and the Night Watchers definitely lacked that hierarchical structure. Only fighters could become knights.
Even Bai Ji Kanata himself wasn’t a knight—he just belonged to the Order of Sequence.
After Tifureka revealed herself as a protector of Qing Liao Songstress, the Moon Singer sitting across from her couldn’t help but laugh a little.
“Truthfully, I’m one too. The Order sent three of us to protect her, and I’m one of those three.”
Moon Singer wasn’t a Holy Knight but a lower rank: a Golden Knight. She was weaker than Tifureka. But you couldn’t dismiss her just because she was lower ranked—she got to team up with Holy Knights. It proved her own worth, even if she wasn’t just a spare.
Hearing this, Bai Ji Kanata’s eyes turned even more envious.
“Ah, how lucky! Too bad I’m not a knight, otherwise I’d jump at the chance.”
Though he had a respectable position in the Order, he sometimes lamented his identity. After all, he thought, “the knight” was more fitting for men.
Unfortunately, he lacked combat skills. Even boosting his abilities wouldn’t do him much good in a fight. But Bai Ji Kanata tried not to be too disappointed.
There were times where it wasn’t appropriate for him to act; he wasn’t into changing his fate forcibly anyway. He just did what brought him joy.
After satisfying his curiosity, Bai Ji Kanata asked another question:
“If three people are protecting Qing Liao Songstress and Ti and Moonie are two of them, then who’s the third?”
“That’s me here,” chirped Ti with a smile.
“Oh?”
Bai Ji Kanata almost missed what she said.
Sylvia then glanced at a certain Missileur Royal who was eagerly smiling.
“Isn’t it you, Missileur Royal?”
“It is me, you didn’t expect that?”
“No kidding, who would have thought a nun would protect someone!”
Indeed, Sylvia never expected Missileur, who possessed zero fighting skills in the Order.
But Missileur was known in the Order as a nun. Despite the Order not being a typical religious institution, nuns were a thing. Nuts!
Typically, nuns held a lower status than knights. Yet Missileur, as a nun, was considered more prestigious than some Holy Knights, which had everything to do with her special abilities.
Even in the Order, people started murmuring that Missileur was a Saintess. Usually, people like her were protected, yet she was now protecting someone—a complete twist of expectations.
Sylvia frowned slightly.
“Why would you protect others? You can hardly protect yourself.”
Not that Sylvia was being mean—it seemed Bai Ji could take Missileur down easily.
Totally unreasonable.
Yet Missileur didn’t seem to care.
“That’s what Ti and Moonie are for. I, however, am there for support, simply keeping Qing Liao company and being a friend.”
Hearing this, Sylvia seemed to realize something.
“Your true goal is not about protecting Qing Liao Songstress—you want to meet her, for your own reasons? You even used authorization!”
Bai Ji Kanata too seemed enlightened.
“So that’s it—Missileur likes Qing Liao Songstress and is using her authority to be close to her? What a lucky girl.”
Missileur shook her head in resignation.
“Don’t paint me as capricious; I’m quite practical. Her concerts often erupt into chaos, causing widespread injuries. And I’m there when things go south.”
Only then did Bai Ji and Sylvia finally remember what was being said.
A world-renowned singer’s concerts could indeed erupt into chaos in chaotic places. Terrorists didn’t care about lives, so what would stop them from ruining everything?
If such pandemonium happened, emergency services might buckle, and only special individuals would make a difference—like Missileur royal herself.
She gained her unique abilities—known as Holy Healing—a large-scale healing power that could make believers’ faith deepen. When hurt people sought help in churches, what could be more moving than the power of saving lives?
Thus, to the general believers, she was already a figure akin to a saint. The essence of the Order was religion, and faith came first.
And because of the nature of the Order, with its devotion to faith, Missileur became a mouthpiece for the divine—a key reason why she had high regard among the leadership.
Such a unique and unexpected character indeed.
