468. Angry Mode On
Having borrowed some money, Wang Jie was finally ready to set out.
Not knowing how long he’d be staying at his girlfriend’s place, he pulled out his luggage and began packing.
His movements were leisurely, taking his sweet time rummaging through clothes, contemplating which ones to bring. He even paused in front of the computer, pondering whether to take his laptop along.
Ning Chu couldn’t stand it anymore.
She strode over, gave Wang Jie a hearty shove to the side, took a glance at the half-full suitcase, and began grabbing clothes from the wardrobe. With a swift motion, she unplugged the laptop and stuffed it into the luggage as well, capped it off with the lid, zipped it up, and shoved the handle into Wang Jie’s hand.
“All set! Let’s roll!”
Ning Chu’s decisive actions startled Wang Jie, leaving him a bit dazed. “Uh?”
“Faster, faster! Get moving!”
She delivered a swift kick to his backside. “Pay back Wen Yang’s money quickly! And get your girlfriend business sorted out ASAP!”
Wang Jie felt the kick and jumped, his face a canvas of hesitation and nerves.
At that moment, Wen Yang sauntered over, clamped a hand on Wang Jie’s shoulder, and started pushing him out of the dormitory. “Hurry up and sweet-talk your girlfriend!”
After shoving Wang Jie out of the dorm, Wen Yang looked back and asked, “Is that good enough?”
“Should be, right?”
Someone like Wang Jie, always dodging responsibilities and hesitating, definitely needed a good kick in the pants to get him moving. If he was left to ponder too long, there was no doubt he’d back out halfway.
It wasn’t that Wang Jie didn’t like his girlfriend; it was just his nature.
To avoid this guy second-guessing on the way, Ning Chu turned to Zhang Shaoqing. “You drive him to the bus station, and get him the nearest ticket.”
“You’re such a control freak,” Zhang Shaoqing yawned as he popped open the drawer and pulled out the car keys. “I might as well drive him straight to his wife’s school. Wen Yang, can you cover for me this afternoon?”
“That’s the best plan!”
“Oh, my poor, overworked soul!”
With that exclamation, Zhang Shaoqing hurriedly dashed out of the dorm with keys in hand, only to find Wang Jie still standing at the door, hesitating.
He hooked an arm around Wang Jie’s neck and dragged him downstairs, playfully reassuring him, “You don’t want Ning Chu to look down on you, do you? Let’s go! The mess you made, you clean up. No fun without responsibility!”
“I wanted to be responsible too…”
“Your bunny wife is that fierce? Hiding her true colors, huh?”
“…”
“Hey, your bunny girl isn’t going to drop a whole litter of little bunnies, right? How will you take care of all them?”
“Shouldn’t be… right? Don’t call her bunny girl…”
“Tsk, tsk. If you don’t convince her down, in a couple of years, you might have a full-blown soccer team on your hands!”
Watching Zhang Shaoqing and Wang Jie leave the dorm, Ning Chu withdrew her head back inside.
In the hallway, several guys had already noticed a girl mingling in the boys’ dorm, but this sort of thing wasn’t too shocking, so no one was making a fuss.
Boys’ dorms were always less strict than girls’ dorms.
“Now it’s up to Wang Jie,” Wen Yang said, sitting at Zhang Shaoqing’s computer, turning to ask, “What else are you worried about?”
“Nothing…”
Ning Chu averted her eyes, dodging Wen Yang’s gaze.
The words “guilty” were practically stamped on her face. She tried to hide her emotions but was radiating them all too clearly—adorable yet clumsy.
Wen Yang didn’t pry, patiently opening Zhang Shaoqing’s game library.
Even though he was a bit of a jokester, the game library was quite orderly, the only racy game being a catgirl title, which made Ning Chu’s library seem downright pure in comparison.
As for Ning Chu, her selection of suggestive games was shared with Lily.
Wen Yang, on the other hand, had nothing but free games, all courtesy of promotions and giveaways.
Just ten minutes into the game, Little Succubus couldn’t hold back any longer and plopped onto a little stool next to Wen Yang, anxiously asking, “What if Wang Jie doesn’t pay me back? I lent him two thousand five hundred…”
“How could that happen?”
“How could it not?”
With no one else around, Ning Chu raised her voice, grumbling, “In high school, I could barely feed myself, let alone loan friends a few hundred bucks! And I still haven’t been paid back!”
Wen Yang looked at her in shock. “Didn’t Aunt give you money?”
Wasn’t this about stuff that happened before the crossover…?
“The point is my deadbeat friend!”
Ning Chu was getting anxious, fiddling with the hoodie strings of her coat, creating knots. “Wang Jie only needed two thousand! You were so generous and gave him another five hundred… he could’ve just asked his family and got the money—why borrow from you? It’s like you’re loaded or something!”
“If he doesn’t pay it back, so be it.”
“Easy for you to say! You worked all winter break and barely scraped together that cash! You’re not the one getting hurt!”
Although she had shared a dorm with Wang Jie for several months, her past experiences with lending money to relatives and childhood friends made her all too prepared for the “borrow and never pay back” scenario.
Earlier, while everyone was around, she didn’t want to say much, just watching Wen Yang act all high and mighty, confidently handing over the cash.
This guy probably thought he looked cool lending money, but maybe he was the fool!
“It’s alright, Wang Jie’s not that kind of guy,” Wen Yang said cheerfully. “If he doesn’t pay us back, we’ll know exactly who we’re dealing with. It’ll save us from future losses.”
Ning Chu glared at him, puffing up in anger. “A few hundred is one thing, but this much… you won’t know the pain until you’re on the wrong end of it!”
“Okay, okay, next time I’ll run it by you first.”
The two rarely argued; as soon as a quarrel began, Wen Yang would unconditionally admit guilt, leaving Ning Chu unsure of where to direct her frustration.
With all this bottled-up anger, she pursed her lips and furrowed her brows, frustratedly turning to walk out of the dorm.
“Where are you going?” Wen Yang quickly got up to follow her.
“To the girls’ dorm. Lily said she’d help me with my nails, and I want to check on that octopus too,” Ning Chu snapped as she pushed the door open. “Why are you following me?”
“Then I’ll just go reflect on my behavior, shall I?”
She glanced back at Wen Yang’s awkward grin, uncertain whether the male protagonist really felt remorse or was just trying to appease her anger.
“Remember to take out the trash when you leave.”
She casually reminded him before stepping out of the dorm and slamming the door, “bang!”
Wen Yang returned to Zhang Shaoqing’s computer, frustrated.
When money was involved, Ning Chu’s temper was fiercer than usual; in the past, all it took for him was a sincere apology and a few playful jokes to make her laugh, but this time, that wasn’t working.
He scratched his head in distress, losing interest in the game on the screen.
He really should have thought this through…
