The night gradually deepened.
After finishing her afternoon classes, Ning Chu returned to her rental apartment, close to seven o’clock.
Yawning at her desk, she clicked mindlessly on the mouse, staring blankly at the computer screen.
Ever since the incident at noon, her mood had been less than stellar.
It wasn’t that she was still mad at Wen Yang; she wanted to appear cheerful and lively, but her melancholy had settled deep in her chest and brain, a heavy fog in her throat that made it hard to lift her spirits.
She hadn’t always been like this…
Ever since becoming a woman, she had become more emotional, especially today!
“Still angry, huh?”
Wen Yang came in after shedding his coat and shoes, wearing an awkward smile.
“Not angry,” Ning Chu retorted, covering her nose. “Go wash your feet! They stink!”
“On it.”
The sound of running water from the bathroom filled the air, and she waved her hand in front of her nose and opened the window to air out the smell of Wen Yang’s feet.
He’d been practicing basketball a lot lately, and after a day of activity, his shoes always brought a powerful aroma that could scare even the bravest souls away.
Lucky for him, he was aware of hygiene and usually rushed to wash without needing to be told.
“I wonder if Wang Jie has managed to sort things out…”
Wen Yang, now perched on the bed after washing his feet, muttered a bit anxiously to himself.
“If he can’t, his girlfriend is way harder to deal with than I am,” Ning Chu smirked.
“You don’t even know her, do you?”
“She’s pregnant, you know? Wang Jie’s such a goofball; he probably heaped a whole load of trouble on himself by coming back for class.”
“That’s true…” Wen Yang chuckled, teasing Wang Jie. “That guy is already a total introvert—he must be having a tough time right now.”
Ning Chu huffed, “Well, who told him not to wear protection?”
But from the conversation she overheard between Zhang Shaoqing and Wang Jie before they left, it seemed that his girlfriend insisted on no safety measures…
What a fierce woman! Even as a succubus, she wouldn’t be that reckless.
Though, to be fair, sometimes going bareback does feel nicer…
Not wanting to dwell on Wang Jie’s situation any longer, Wen Yang shifted the topic. “What do you want for dinner?”
“I have no appetite.”
“You looked kind of out of it this afternoon.”
“Just feeling down…”
Ning Chu slumped at her desk, clearly supposed to be having dinner or writing her novel, but her motivation to do anything was completely absent—even drinking water felt like pulling teeth.
“How about you eat me? I can feed you well?”
She shot him a glance over her shoulder. “You actually took Xinya’s dirty joke seriously?”
“Not exactly…”
But who could blame him? His girlfriend is indeed a little succubus, always whining about being hungry every night and looking like she could never be satisfied.
Wen Yang couldn’t decipher what was going through Ning Chu’s mind at that moment, so he stood up, declaring, “Alright, I’m going to buy dinner. You need to eat something; going without is bad for your stomach.”
“Fine.”
She half-heartedly replied, still hunched over at her desk, not bothering to look up as he opened the door and his footsteps faded down the hallway.
She thought about washing her face to wake herself up, but then her phone started vibrating on the desk.
Glancing at the screen, she picked up the call.
“Hello, Bro?”
It was a rare call from her brother, Ning Yuan.
Though they got along decently, they had managed only about five calls the whole last semester—not like their mother, who called at least once or twice a week.
Now, Black Bean was even more extreme, video calling every night to “collect debts” from Ning Chu.
“Ning Chu, are you coming home for May Day?”
Hearing his voice, Ning Chu tried to perk up her tone, not wanting her brother to notice her moodiness. “Probably not. I made plans to hang out with some classmates.”
“Oh~ It’s all good; I can finally have the room to myself.” He suddenly switched gears. “Why does Mom keep visiting my rental apartment every few days? Isn’t she supposed to be pushing me to find a girlfriend?”
“Huh?”
“Did you tell her something?”
Ning Chu froze, almost forgetting about that little slip-up.
But she quickly recalled, her voice turning soft and sheepish, mumbling, “I let it slip, but it’s nothing; your fiancée is quite pretty, right? Mom wouldn’t mind!”
“She wouldn’t mind, but it’s annoying having her pop up all the time; it’s unbearable!”
“Isn’t she just showing concern for you? Mom could always help tidy up a bit around your place~”
“Please no…” Her brother sighed deeply with dread. “I might have to move out now.”
Ning Chu fell silent, until he asked again, “How have you been lately? That Wen Yang guy hasn’t been bullying you, has he?”
“Well… he has! He totally picked on me today!”
As soon as she said that, her brother’s reaction was intense. “I swear! I’ll break his legs if he lays a finger on you!”
“You can’t take him.”
Calming down quickly, he switched back to concern. “How is he bullying you? Did you have a fight?”
“Bro, you’re the one who’s tough only when it comes to the weak,” Ning Chu retorted, then complained, “He borrowed 2,500 from one of my classmates without even talking to me first; not a big deal at all.”
“That’s his money…”
“Isn’t his money my money too? Go teach him a lesson! Make him spend my money!”
Her brother was momentarily speechless.
They weren’t even married yet, and she was already treating it like shared property?
After her little rant, where they had only chatted for about ten minutes, Wen Yang swung the door open and walked back in.
From a distance, in the hallway, he could hear Ning Chu complaining to her brother about today’s events.
So she really was still angry…
She was so stubborn, pretending not to care, probably afraid he would think she was being petty or whiny.
“Got to go; I’m having dinner now.”
As soon as her words fell, a can of ice-cold Coke landed in front of her.
“Here, your Coke.”
“Looks like my period is going to start soon…” she murmured but took the Coke and downed a huge gulp. “What did you buy? Just let me taste it.”
“Fast food and sweet ribs.”
As Wen Yang opened a few food containers, the smell of the sweet ribs caught Ning Chu’s attention.
Just a minute ago, she hadn’t felt hungry at all, but once that aroma hit her, a fierce emptiness churned in her stomach, growling audibly.
“I’ll just taste a little…” Ning Chu put on some disposable gloves and grabbed a sweet rib to gnaw on.
After devouring the easy-to-eat meat off the bone, she left the chewy bits behind and stretched lazily, energized. She dashed to wash her face and plopped down onto the bed.
Wen Yang didn’t mind that she had gnawed at the ribs; he continued eating while asking, “What were you talking about with your brother?”
“Just asking if I’m going home for May Day.”
Yawning while lying on the bed, Ning Chu pulled the blanket over her exposed belly to avoid getting cold.
She fiddled with her phone, scrolling through short videos that flashed by, but not a single clip could hold her attention for more than three seconds.
Then a shadow loomed over her, casting darkness on her bed.
“What do you want?”
Ning Chu glanced at Wen Yang, standing at the bedside—a tall figure blocking out the light, casting a shadow over her half-body.
“I’m sincerely here to apologize.”
“I already said I’m not mad anymore…” She grumbled, her gaze inexplicably drifting down towards Wen Yang, eyes flickering and wide, mesmerized, “And it’s still early; I haven’t even showered yet.”
“Don’t touch me; I’m busy, hey!”
In just a few minutes, the little succubus who had been resisting had wrapped her legs around Wen Yang’s arm, her earlier displeasure melting away, replaced by a radiant blush, her eyes now shimmering with tears, and her breathing grew rapid and uneven.
“Come on~”
This was indeed exhilarating! That earlier gloom had vanished completely!
