630. Cousin
Ning Chu stood beside the car, lost in thought, watching as her mother and Uncle led Black Bean’s hand, gradually walking away.
Black Bean enthusiastically swung their arms to and fro, her tail gleefully sticking straight up in the air. Occasionally, she would let go and dance around the two, like a butterfly flitting about, full of mischief. Every time she wandered a bit too far, her mother would loudly call her back.
Although the little cat was lively and boisterous, her mother and Uncle always wore indulgent and joyful smiles.
Watching their retreating backs, Ning Chu suddenly felt that having a child might not be so bad.
A child like Black Bean, with her active antics, though occasionally irritating, must bring more happiness than anything else, right?
Her thoughts involuntarily replaced the figures of her mother and Uncle with her and Wen Yang, and Black Bean with a potential child they might have someday… Imagining the scene, her lips curved into a warm smile.

“Let’s get in the car.”
Ning Yuan tapped the car window, snapping her out of her daze.
“Ah.”
“I’ll drop you home first.”
“Alright.”
Opening the door, Ning Chu sat in the passenger seat, her gaze still lingering far into the distance.
“Uncle will take good care of Mom, right?” she suddenly asked her brother.
“What else do you expect? They’ve been together for how many years?” Ning Yuan glanced at her. “Seatbelt.”
“Anyway, I’m planning to work in another city soon. Maybe take a shot at Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and earn some extra cash.”
Ning Chu blinked. “Won’t you be home the whole year then?”
“Isn’t Mom well taken care of by Uncle? I’ll come back for the New Year, and if anything urgent happens, I’ll fly back. No big deal.” Ning Yuan started the car, saying as he drove, “Ever since I’ve been with my sister-in-law, I always want to make more money. If it weren’t for worrying about Mom, I’d have gone to a big city long ago.”
“How come everyone’s only thinking about making money…”
Her brother was like this, and so was Wen Yang.
“Men, we need a sense of responsibility; can’t let your sister-in-law suffer because of me.”
Ning Chu nodded thoughtfully.
Back when she was a man, she had nothing, no attachments, no one she cared about. She hadn’t truly comprehended this sense of responsibility.
“Just thinking about it makes me tired.”
Ning Yuan chuckled. “Tired? I’m full of energy for it.”
Not a minute after they started driving, he started nagging again: “You’re meeting Wen Yang tomorrow, right? Take care of yourself when you’re in another city. If you feel wronged, come home, don’t put up with it.”
“Break up with him right away if he hits or scolds you. Don’t listen to his nonsense. If he has a violent streak, it won’t change. Ever.”
“Brother, he would never dare to hit me! I’m the one who won’t even hit him.”
“If he cheats on you, it’s the same. Once he cheats once, it’ll happen countless times.”
“He won’t dare. Besides, I’m keeping a close eye on him,” Ning Chu said smugly, sitting straight. “Not to mention, there aren’t many girls prettier than me!”
When it comes to looks and figure, she was totally in control!

And being a guy previously, she knew exactly what men were most excited by.
Ning Yuan glanced at his sister. “No matter how beautiful you are, you can’t compete with some random fling.”
“Can you say something nice about Wen Yang?”
A thirty-minute walk but a ten-minute drive; after chatting a little, the car stopped at the residential community’s entrance.
Ning Chu got out of the car, pouting and glaring at her brother.
“Will you not come to the dinner?”
“I won’t!” She lightly kicked the car door, venting her frustration before asking hastily, “Are you coming home tonight?”
“Forget it…” Ning Yuan paused, unable to say this outright when he saw Ning Chu’s expectant eyes, so he revised his words, “Alright, I’ll sleep on the sofa tonight. I’ll send you to the station tomorrow, okay?”
“That’s just great! I’m counting on you to send me!”
“Do you just need a chauffeur?”
Ning Yuan murmured as he drove away from the alley outside the community.
Watching the old car drive away, Ning Chu stretched lazily and turned back into the residential area.
Now home was empty, Wen Yang was still at work. She didn’t even know what to do when she returned.
Truth be told, she still wanted to attend her mother and uncle’s small wedding banquet, but some of the relatives there were just so awkward. Worse still, she would have to fake a smile.
But a few relatives were pretty good, not all of them were insufferable.
