538. Job
“Wen Yang! Wen Yang!”
“I found a job!”
The day after choosing to be a bit stubborn, Ning Chu brought exciting news.
She gleefully pushed open the door to the room, hands on her slim waist, chin up, and head held high, as if her nose could touch the ceiling.
“The manager, that big sis, totally likes me! The moment I walked into the interview, she made a snap decision! I start tomorrow!”
Wen Yang, who had just gotten home from work, paused for a moment, his face lighting up. “How about we go out to celebrate?”
“Eh? Is there really anything to celebrate?” Ning Chu hesitated, taking a step back. “There’s still a probation period. What if I don’t pass…?”
“How about a buffet? It’s not too expensive, and mom asked if you’ve slimmed down lately—better eat more, or I might come home to find her trying to break my legs!”
“Last night?”
“Were you out of it or something?”
Ning Chu vaguely recalled receiving a call last night.
But at the time, she was lost in her own thoughts, instinctively covering her mouth, and her brain happily drifted off.
Her face changed: “Mom didn’t hear anything embarrassing, right?”
“Nope. Now you’re the one getting timid? Last night, while I was on the phone, you were grabbing my arm…”
“Stop right there! Just stop!”
With her cheeks turning a shade deeper, Ning Chu covered her ears and hurried into the bathroom: “I need to use the restroom! Let’s go eat!”
Wen Yang followed her, relishing her embarrassment, but the bathroom door was swiftly locked with a loud bang.
He leaned against the door, asking, “What time do you usually work? Do you have weekends off?”
“Nine to six, with a rotating weekend schedule, but I have eight days off a month.”
“Not bad~ If you’re not comfortable, just say so. We won’t suffer for anything.”
“Hey, why aren’t you asking about my salary?”
Even in a big city like Shanghai, customer service wages aren’t sky-high, right?
But Wen Yang still played along: “What’s your salary?”
“Five thousand after my probation! If I write some novels and maintain full attendance, that could be six thousand a month!”
When Ning Chu emerged from the bathroom once more, she had returned to her gleeful, slightly embarrassing self.
While her salary wasn’t anything to brag about, she was still just a summer intern in her third year! Eventually, her salary would rise!
“The manager sister told me that in free time, I can learn a lot from my colleagues. Transferring to operations could be really profitable too~”
Wen Yang scratched his head, muttering, “Sounds like pie in the sky…”
“The internet says it’s possible to switch to operations!” Ning Chu paused in her steps as she walked out of the bathroom, then backed away.
“What are you doing?”
“Putting on some lipstick~ I’m going out to eat with you~”
Standing in front of two tubes of lipstick, she hesitated for a moment and finally chose the birthday gift Lily had given her.
It was supposed to be a so-called “boy-killer” color, but honestly, she wasn’t that sensitive to colors and had no knowledge of lipsticks.
Wen Yang crossed his arms, not in a hurry to leave, simply enjoying the view as he watched the girl in front of the mirror who was seriously applying lipstick and pouting her lips.
He wasn’t fond of waiting for people; all his patience was reserved for Ning Chu.
Even if she wanted to sit down and spend an hour doing her makeup, he wouldn’t mind.
“Should I change my clothes?” Ning Chu asked, turning her head. “This outfit feels a bit outdated.”
To appear more mature and steady during her interview, she purposely wore a conservative dress, but her doll-like face still looked a bit too youthful.
“Sure, want me to help you choose?”
“Okay~ Just don’t pick a skirt that’s too short.”
“How about a sailor suit?”
“I think there’s a sailor suit at home…”
Ning Chu turned around, only to see Wen Yang pulling out two small pieces of fabric from the drawer. She froze for a moment and pounced on him: “That’s lingerie! Are you stupid?!”
The top of that sailor suit wouldn’t even cover her waist, let alone her backside!
“No! I didn’t look closely!”
Wen Yang dodged her swats, running around the room barefoot, but the space was too small to escape the flurry of her playful punches.
Usually, this little succubus couldn’t open bottle caps, but when it came to fighting, she was surprisingly strong.
“Of course I don’t keep proper clothes in the drawer!”
“Alright, alright, stop messing around.”
Using his height to his advantage, Wen Yang firmly pressed Ning Chu’s head down.
She kept flailing her fists, but they couldn’t reach him, so she just panted, eventually stopping the playfulness: “Let go! I’m going to change clothes!”
“Stop being so troublesome.”
“I’m not going to be bothered by you!”
She rolled her eyes at Wen Yang, ailing to herself, and turned to open the closet, finding a seldom-worn sailor suit hidden deep inside.
Her temper flared quickly but faded just as fast. With the outfit in hand, she dashed into the bathroom, changing while worrying, “Wen Yang, what if I can’t get along with my coworkers?”
After the initial excitement, her first-day jitters flooded back.
“Don’t act like we’re not close, hiding from me to change.”
“What did you do when your coworkers ignored you when you started out?”
“Good! I just sat there playing on my phone.”
Ning Chu sighed: “I can’t be as thick-skinned as you~ Just sitting there, watching others work hard is too embarrassing for me.”
“Make sure to bring a power bank so you can play all day.”
“……”
Wen Yang couldn’t help but chuckle, “Don’t worry, generally someone will guide you, and since you’re cute, there will definitely be male colleagues who will chat you up. No way you’ll be ignored.”
“Eh~ I don’t want to talk to men…”
Having once been a man, Ning Chu understood all too well what men think when they see a pretty girl.
Finally, she changed into her chosen outfit and stepped out of the bathroom, twirling in her small skirt in front of Wen Yang: “How does it look?”
Wen Yang rubbed his chin, taking in the sight of the little succubus.
The sailor suit added a touch of innocence to Ning Chu. With that youthful doll face and her womanly charm mixing together, it created a vibe that was sure to excite any guy.
“What if we change again?”
Ning Chu blinked: “What’s wrong with it?”
“It’s too good-looking; I’m afraid you’ll attract unwanted attention from other men, and I’ll get annoyed.”
Her face lit up immediately, and she eagerly ran off to find something else: “Then I’ll change again! Who told you to make me wear the sailor suit?”
“Hey, should I buy something for my mom and Black Bean once I get my paycheck?”
“You already thinking about spending your salary even before starting work?”
“Well, what if I quit after two days…? I shouldn’t, right?”
Ning Chu felt a little guilty for saying that; she’d always been the type to run from hardship—when faced with difficulties, her favorite choice was to escape.
“If you can’t handle it, just quit. I can still support you for now.”
“Who do you think you’re looking down on!”
“??? ”
Wen Yang was perplexed, looking at Ning Chu with a blank expression: “I’m not…”
