Trapped in Paradise – Chapter 529

549. Leaving School

“You actually want to be a police officer?!”

“Yup!”

Ning Chu looked up and down at the loli-sized girl with red twin tails, trying to figure out how she could possibly be cut out for police work.

“You can’t even get into grad school, how do you expect to pass the civil service exam?”

Qian Qian nodded vigorously, “I’ve got to give it a shot!”

“I just have a feeling that even if you become a cop, it won’t be quite as you imagine it.”

“But I’m a Magical Girl! I’m super strong, okay?” She puffed out her chest like it was made of steel. “With great power comes great responsibility! I want to dedicate my limited time to justice, not to a boring nine-to-five!”

This girl was still young; her middle-school syndrome hadn’t healed. After all, she wouldn’t have been foolishly tricked into becoming a Magical Girl if it had.

But Ning Chu really appreciated her sense of justice; the world needs people like that.

After finishing the graduation photo sh**t, the group lingered, wandering slowly around the school before finally arriving at the front gate.

Ning Chu turned back to Wang Jie, who had been silent behind her.

“You should find a job. Don’t just stay in the dorm playing games all day. Soon you’ll be kicked out!”

Wen Yang chimed in, “Even if you don’t know what you want to do, you can at least find something temporary. Ning Chu worked as a customer service rep for a few months last year. Better than doing nothing!”

“Yeah… I know.”

Wang Jie looked down, picking at his nails.

“You’ve been broken up with her for a year now. Stop wallowing in the past.”

He noticed Ning Chu adopting her usual busybody older sister demeanor, asking questions like she actually cared.

It was always the same back then; whether it was him or Zhang Shaoqing, Wen Yang, no matter when they ran into her, she would be the first to show concern, even when they were all still getting to know each other in their freshman year.

“I can barely remember what she looks like.”

“But what about your internship proof? How are you going to handle that?”

“Oh, I’ll get it from an off-campus print shop… they have tons of company stamps.”

Ning Chu was taken aback; she hadn’t expected that kind of operation. No wonder universities have such high employment rates—they must be turning a blind eye to this.

“So, are we leaving? Hurry and lose some weight! I don’t want to see you weighing 200 pounds next time we meet!”

“Okay.”

Wen Yang patted Wang Jie on the shoulder, “If you need something, just shout in the group chat.”

“Yeah, bye.”

“Wen Yang! Let’s go!”

Hearing Ning Chu call, he finally left Wang Jie’s side and took Little Succubus’s hand.

Outside, the Walking Street was buzzing with excitement. It was just dusk, and the restaurants had no choice but to shove their tables and chairs out onto the street, almost every establishment packed with students.

“Now it’s really graduation, huh? I probably won’t be back again.”

Ning Chu gazed at the lively street, a little downcast.

As they exited the school, the group’s mood was dim, but Yan Xinya was happily zipping around the street, hunting for interesting snacks.

“Hey! Do you want to try some multigrain pancakes? Let’s buy one to share!”

“Don’t eat it! The ride’s almost here!”

“Oh! Qian Qian, are you going?”

Wolf Girl skidded back, rushing over to Qian Qian.

“I’ve got work tomorrow…” Qian Qian looked pitifully at Lily, “I’ll only have a chance to see you again later.”

Lily turned her head away, avoiding her gaze.

“Lily’s eyes are red!” Yan Xinya exclaimed as if she had discovered a new continent, only to receive a slap from Lily.

She immediately became compliant, rubbing the back of her head where it hurt, mumbling, “Was that necessary?”

“Anyway, Xinya is already pretty silly,” Qian Qian said, glancing back at Ning Chu, “Ning Chu, when are you and Wen Yang getting married?”

“Why does everyone keep asking that?” Ning Chu groaned, giving her a look. “Wen Yang doesn’t even want to marry me.”

“Huh? Wen Yang, what’s up with that?!”

Qian Qian gasped.

“Don’t spread rumors. It’s not that I don’t want to, it’s just that I’m broke.”

“You can get married even if you’re broke~ Ning Chu wouldn’t mind, right?”

Ning Chu nodded vigorously.

While she had once told Wen Yang that they needed a house and a car to get married, that was just an excuse to procrastinate. She even claimed they shouldn’t have any pre-marital activities!

Yet here she was, giving in and having fun every night, maybe even a little too much.

Wen Yang glanced at Little Succubus, whose head was bobbing like a bobblehead, and laughed sourly, “The problem is, my mother-in-law would definitely mind.”

Now that was a big issue.

Ning Chu thought this was a good opportunity to casually discuss it with her mother when she went home.

If they waited until Wen Yang bought a house, who knows when that would be.

Even if they combined their earnings to get around 300,000 to 400,000 a year, it wouldn’t go far in a big city; saving half would be impressive… What if she ended up waiting until thirty to afford a down payment on a million-dollar house?

“Wen Yang, I’ll talk to my mom for you in a couple of days.”

Ning Chu stood on her tiptoes, whispering in Wen Yang’s ear.

“Are you in such a rush to marry me?” Wen Yang teased.

Her face turned tomato-red, and Ning Chu bashfully avoided eye contact as she denied, “Not really… it’s just that they’re waiting to drink at the wedding, right?”

“Exactly!” Yan Xinya was like a kid with candy, egging her on, “After the wedding, we’re having a baby shower too! We’ll all be there, no matter how busy we are!”

“You’re jumping straight from wedding to baby shower? Besides, I’m not planning on having kids—I’d ruin my figure.”

Hearing this, Lily perked up, “Then you won’t have a figure like mine.”

“That’s debatable…”

Ning Chu worriedly looked down at her chest.

With the extra love she had received over the years, her B+ cup had likely bloated up to a C. If she had a child, it might get a bit bigger.

Fortunately, she had a small frame and was relatively slender; if it got any bigger, it should still look okay.

“My ride’s here!”

Qian Qian exclaimed, as the ride-hailing car arrived and pulled up to the curb.

She waved at everyone, “Bye! Wait for my good news about becoming a police officer! Xinya, don’t drink too much, and don’t go crazy at Lily’s place!”

“Got it! I’ll head back in a couple of days!”

“What’s taking our ride so long?” Lily waved goodbye to Qian Qian, looking slightly anxious as she checked her rideshare app. “So slow.”

She rarely showed such impatience, pacing lightly on the spot, clearly eager to get home.

“Will the train make it? Who told you to book such an early ticket?”

Ning Chu teased, as all Succubi can see through each other. “Are you excited to go home for some shenanigans?”

“……”

“Oh, and Wen Yang will be there too! Just watch yourself!”

Lily’s ears turned red from embarrassment as she averted her gaze.

Seeing Lily getting teased, Yan Xinya chimed in to defend her, “You’re the one who needs to sleep with us tonight.”

“No way! You snore like a chainsaw! I couldn’t sleep a wink last night!”

“Then you have to sleep separately from Wen Yang.”

“I don’t want to! I can’t sleep without Wen Yang!”

Yan Xinya covered her mouth, “Oh~ that’s so spicy!”

“How is that spicy…?”
