570. The Married Yan Xinya
Ning Chu had always viewed the concept of childbirth through the lens of “the most painful thing in the world.”
She also heard rumors that after giving birth, mothers would be left with irreparable damage, like stretch marks, hair loss, and even incontinence.
This led to a strong aversion to childbirth when she entered womanhood; she even discussed with Wen Yang the possibility of becoming a DINK couple.
She thought this idea would firmly guide her life, just as she once believed she could never fall for a man.
But perhaps motherhood beckoned, or maybe it was biology’s way of whispering about reproduction…
As time passed, and after marrying Wen Yang, she began to envy the lively and adorable children in other families. After buying a house recently and finally settling down, the urge to have a child overwhelmed her mind.
This feeling completely overshadowed her fear of childbirth, and once she found out she was pregnant, the thought of an abortion never even crossed her mind.
The only condition was that she didn’t want to see any 3D delivery demonstrations! A little mystery was great; anything to prevent scaring her off.
“So, you’re pregnant too, huh?”
In Yan Xinya’s home, a few friends were reunited because of her wedding. Ning Chu’s belly was already noticeably round, and loose clothing couldn’t hide it anymore.
The bed was covered with bright red sheets, and her friends sat around the edge, looking at Ning Chu with a mix of envy and curiosity.
“Don’t stare; I’m only just over three weeks. Can’t see anything yet,” Ning Chu sat cross-legged on the bed and helplessly apologized to Yan Xinya. “So I can’t be your bridesmaid. I have to be careful with everything now…”
The first three months of pregnancy are a bit shaky; a careless move could lead to a miscarriage, and she didn’t want to take that risk.
“Got it~ You’re pregnant too! You used to look like such a tomboy back in the day.”
Yan Xinya’s hand instinctively rested on her round belly as she teased Lily: “Lily~ don’t you still have a boyfriend? Look at that succubus over there.”
“Seriously, Sister Lily, you’re so out of it! I already have a boyfriend.”
Qian Qian nodded in total agreement.
She sported a neat ponytail; after failing her graduate entrance exams, she switched to public service, and surprise! She actually got accepted.
Now she’s a police officer and a colleague of the groom, Li Han, but sadly she’s stuck doing administrative work, never getting close to criminals or crime scenes, wearing her magical girl outfit every day without ever using it.
“Isn’t Lily going on blind dates lately? Met anyone you like?” Ning Chu asked, curious.
This succubus had graduated with a doctorate and set her standards way higher than she used to, occasionally dating, but always breaking up fast—still the shame of all succubi.
Lily spun a lock of hair around her finger, shaking her head in frustration: “It’s either ugly or creepy.”
Or too young! Not as fun as a toy!
“Our Lily is so pretty~ Of course, men are going to drool over you~” Qian Qian giggled behind her hand. “I’ve never heard of a succubus this age still being single; you’re so wild outside of this!”
Lily’s face turned a light shade of red as she raised her hand and tapped Qian Qian on the back of the head.
Just then, a knock at the bedroom door interrupted.
“What is it?”
Wen Yang popped his head in, announcing, “The groom is here! You girls should get ready.”
“Ow!”
“Ning Chu, come out! Don’t just hang around with them; what if you bump into something?”
“Got it!”
Yan Xinya had already done her makeup, sparkly at the corners of her eyes, wearing a joyous traditional bridal dress. Usually vibrant, today she looked particularly graceful and dignified.
Meanwhile, Qian Qian and Lily donned fiery red qipaos that hugged their curves, wearing just a light touch of makeup to keep from stealing the spotlight.
After the reminder, the bedroom went into chaos. Yan Xinya was frantically adjusting her dress, while Lily hurried to check her makeup, and Qian Qian dashed out to guard the hallway.
Leaving the bedroom, Ning Chu followed Wen Yang to a corner of the living room to watch the arrival.
Her feelings of envy were bubbling over as she glanced toward the bedroom, muttering quietly, “Xinya looks so beautiful today~”
“Of course! She’s the bride,” Wen Yang gently stroked her hair. “In a few months, you’ll be the bride too, and you’ll definitely look better than her.”
“Ah~ by then my belly will be huge! I wanted to wear a mermaid wedding dress.”
“Isn’t it too early to be showing? Last month when Xinya came to our house, you couldn’t even tell.”
They hadn’t chatted long before the groom, Li Han, burst into the living room with a group of people. Poor Qian Qian, who was supposed to block the door, was too busy blissfully clutching red envelopes like a traitor.
Confetti cannons went off, and colorful ribbons flew everywhere.
Ning Chu leaned her head against Wen Yang’s shoulder, her eyes shining as she watched the lively scene unfold.
“Ning Chu Jie~ here, red envelopes~”
Qian Qian came running over, stuffing several envelopes into Ning Chu’s arms. “This is ours; help me keep it safe! I felt it—at least one or two thousand.”
“Then I’ll just keep it for myself.”
“You’re not even the bridesmaid! Getting a red envelope is already generous. Just remember to grab my and Lily’s envelopes when you leave!”
Ning Chu nodded with a smile, watching Qian Qian run back to the bedroom to join the fun. Then she looked up at Wen Yang, “How much cash did we bring?”
“Five hundred, we’ll give it during the banquet.”
“Should we add more? Lily gave five hundred; what about us…?”
“One family, one gift is plenty. Just hold out your hand.”
She instinctively extended her hand, and Wen Yang poured a handful of sunflower seeds into her palm.
“Hey~ you cracked these with your mouth.”
“What am I, some sunflower seed magician?” Wen Yang chuckled while continuing to munch on the seeds. “I brushed my teeth this morning, so stop complaining.”
Even while she pretended to be disgusted, Ning Chu couldn’t help but lift her hand and dump the seeds into her mouth.
She stood up, her eyes sparkling as she watched the bride step out from the bedroom, surrounded by well-wishers.
The Wolf Girl moved forward with little steps, her face full of joy and happiness, her eyes glued to her groom, never straying.
“It’s so great~” Ning Chu whispered, gazing at the smile on Yan Xinya’s face.
Once, she thought weddings were tedious and boring, but now she found herself stepping into Yan Xinya’s shoes, filled only with envy.
A warm, rough hand, calloused in certain places, wrapped around her own, enfolding her small hand in warmth.
She froze for a moment, gently pulled into Wen Yang’s embrace. Lifting her head like a cat, she nuzzled against his shoulder.
Although Yan Xinya’s wedding was beautiful, her own life was pretty great too!
When she got home, she needed to discuss with her mother about reinstating the wedding plans she had initially scrapped!
Let’s use that three thousand a table for the reception! After all, there wouldn’t be too many guests; why scrimp on money for just one wedding?
Tilting her plain face up to Wen Yang, she said, “Hubby~ let’s go pick out a wedding dress when we get back, and your suit too—let’s make it the best!”
“Are you sure you’re not worried about the money?”
“You better take advantage of my enthusiasm now, and let’s go book the fitting tomorrow! Otherwise, once I cool down, I’ll definitely regret it.”
Wen Yang smiled gently, “Alright.”
