580. Cheers
“Grandpa~”
Led by her mother, Ning Chu and Wen Yang approached the closest main table.
This table was filled with her most familiar relatives and friends: Grandpa, Grandma, older brother, sister-in-law, Black Bean, and Wen Yang’s uncles.
The tall, thin old man, despite his white hair, had bright, gleaming eyes and stood up with a broad smile.
“Very good~ Very good~”
He scrutinized Wen Yang from head to toe, his face full of wrinkles showing just how happy he was.
A few years ago, when he found out Ning Chu had decisively taken the family household registration book and run off to get a marriage certificate with Wen Yang, he almost had a heart attack from the stress, fearing his granddaughter would end up in a situation similar to her mother’s.
But now, it was clear that his granddaughter had far better taste in men than her mother did.
He glanced at the man seated at another table and snorted in discontent, before pulling out a thick stack of cash from his pocket. Seeing Ning Chu’s eyes light up, he announced, “From your grandma and me, it’s a total of fifty thousand.”
“Thank you, Grandpa~”
Ning Chu’s glass was filled with plain water. Together with Wen Yang, they clinked glasses with Grandpa and downed their drinks in one go.
She was still pregnant, so no one dared to say anything about her drinking water instead of wine, while Wen Yang knocked back a small cup of beer without a care.
“Grandma~”
With the same curly hair as Ning Chu, Grandma was about sixty or seventy years old, but with makeup on, she looked like she was in her thirties or forties at first glance. Only her slightly cloudy eyes gave away her age.
“Cheers.”
She lifted her glass and lightly tapped it with the couple’s, her eyes sparkling warmly: “Wishing you a harmonious marriage, and let Wen Yang take care of you.”
“Did you hear that? You need to take care of me.”
“Grandma, you’re not even helping me out, are you?”
Ning Chu’s little head nodded vigorously as she turned to look up at Wen Yang, instinctively leaning her shoulder against her husband’s chest, “Don’t you worry~”
Looking around, she spotted Wen Yang’s uncles sitting with her grandparents.
Wen Yang had received plenty of help from them when he was young, so they had a good relationship. This time at the wedding, they were acting as stand-ins for Wen Yang’s parents.
It was said that one of them used to be a ghostbuster, but had used up too much energy in his younger days, leaving him physically weak today. He had also suffered from a serious illness back then, prompting Wen Yang to rush back to see him.
“Uncle, Brother-in-law……”
It was Ning Chu’s first time meeting them, and she called out in a shy, sweet voice.
“What luck did you have to marry such a great wife?” The uncle teased cheerfully, pulling out a red envelope.
He looked at his niece-in-law, who was enveloped in her stunning wedding gown that accentuated her curves and her charming, made-up face. She could definitely be described as stunningly beautiful; anyone who saw her would be left speechless.
“I’ve always heard Wen Yang say you’re gorgeous, so why didn’t you come back during the New Year?”
Ning Chu froze, not sure how to respond to that.
Wen Yang, however, smiled confidently: “I definitely wanted to win over my mother-in-law, or how else would I marry such a beautiful wife?”
“Can’t argue with that.” The uncle patted Wen Yang on the shoulder, raising his glass, “Live well together and don’t let the girl down.”
“Sure.”
After making rounds at the main table, even though Ning Chu was only drinking water, her belly was already feeling full, while Wen Yang downed one beer after another and his cheeks were starting to look rosy.
“Drink less, there are still seven or eight tables left……”
Ning Chu wrinkled her brow in worry.
Her mother, being experienced, reassured her: “It’s fine; just have one drink at each table. After that, eat something. If anyone tries to pressure them to drink, just call the best man over.”
“Yeah, the best man is probably the happiest to make Wen Yang drink.”
Even though Zhang Shaoqing had left a good impression on Ning Chu during their first meeting, the earlier ruckus of him shouting “Kiss her!” was definitely instigated by him!
Don’t think she couldn’t recognize his tone change! Such a rascal!
Only during this wedding, and with everyone excited, did she dare to initiate a kiss with Wen Yang in front of all their family and friends… but now thinking about it made her a bit regretful, her face heating up.
Fortunately, as a succubus and a pregnant woman, her sense of shame had dulled over time from repeated experiences.
Seated at the edge of the main table were Ning Chu and Wen Yang’s close friends.
When they saw the trio approaching, Zhang Shaoqing shot straight up, beaming as he raised his glass: “Wishing you both a speedy offspring and grow old together~”
“That sounds sarcastic,” Ning Chu huffed, shooting him a sideways glance.
“Don’t drink anymore, come block drinks for me,” Wen Yang laughed, hooking his arm around Zhang Shaoqing’s shoulder and pulling him away from his seat, “Drink too much, and my wife’s going to get mad.”
“Wen Yang~ You need to stand your ground, how can you be so whipped?”
“This is called respect; I love my wife.”
Yan Xinya, Lily, Qian Qian, and their respective boyfriends had all arrived.
This was Ning Chu’s first meeting with Lily’s boyfriend. She curiously stole a few more glances—he was a little handsome guy with a buzz cut, dressed casually, making it hard to tell his physique, but he looked upright and not worn out at all.
After all, Lily was currently just drinking milk and honing her skills. If he was showing signs of weakness now, they’d probably have to break up.
Next to her, Lily sported a youthful shyness, her face a constant rosy hue, far from the Ice Mountain Goddess she was known for, her eyes bright and her complexion filled out… Ning Chu recalled being in a similar state when she first dated Wen Yang; it was obvious she had overindulged in milk.
“Lily~ When are you two getting married?”
“Happy wedding…” Lily blushed, shyly glancing at her boyfriend, “Maybe in another two years?”
“Two years? By then, you’ll be an old maid~”
She stiffened her face and nodded, “I need to be serious about this; after all, I’m not worried about getting married.”
“That’s certainly true.”
Lily came from a good family, had a high education, was pretty, and had quite the attitude. Even when she turned forty, she could still attract a rich guy with a toyboy; indeed, she had nothing to worry about in terms of marriage, though her standards might be a bit high.
Plus, if Ning Chu’s family was anything to go by, Lily would likely still look younger than thirty when she hit forty.
After chatting with several other girlfriends, Wen Yang finally noticed an empty seat at the table: “Where’s Wang Jie?”
Zhang Shaoqing pointed in the distance: “Over there, he’s probably reminiscing with his rabbit girl.”
Looking over, they saw Wang Jie sitting beside a Rabbit Girl, nervously clutching the fabric of his pants, head bowed, his lips moving as if he were whispering something.
Ning Chu and Wen Yang, the newlyweds, exchanged mischievous grins.
“Do you think they can rekindle their romance?”
Wearing ten-centimeter heels, Ning Chu edged closer, playfully whispering in Wen Yang’s ear without even needing to tiptoe, her hands clinging to his shoulders.
“Rationally speaking, I don’t think so; Wang Jie has been too distant these past years.”
“Of course they can! She’s been waiting for him for years!”
“Then what should we bet on?” Wen Yang asked quietly.
Ning Chu thought for a moment and then playfully teased, “Let’s bet that on our wedding night, I’ll be on top~”
“……”
Ahead of them, Ning Chu’s mother, who was introducing distant relatives, shook her head in exasperation: “The youth these days~”
Even before this wedding had ended, they were already contemplating tonight’s positions; such stamina!
