602. Little Aunt
“Black Bean, keep it down, Shuqin is taking a nap.”
As soon as she walked into the house, Black Bean was making a ruckus, her voice sharp and loud enough to drown out three ducks.
Hearing her nickname, Black Bean shot her sister an annoyed glance. “Sis, can’t you just call me Ning Xin? Why insist on using that name? I’m practically an adult now~”
“Adult, huh?”
Ning Chu glanced at Black Bean’s chest.
Black Bean puffed out her chest proudly, hands on her hips. “Big!”
Well, she was wearing a fitted short sleeve today, making her look particularly impressive. In autumn and winter, just throwing on a coat would probably leave only a hint of curves.
Maybe she was around a B-cup, which isn’t exactly small, but compared to a succubus who’s had kids, it’s a little humiliating.
“Even if they’re small, they’re cute.”
Ning Chu giggled behind her hand, the teasing tone really getting on Black Bean’s nerves.
“Brother-in-law~ Sister is bullying me!”
“Oh, come on. What are you comparing yourself to your sister for?” Wen Yang walked in with a cup of tea, “I have work to do, try to keep it down.”
Black Bean thought to herself she didn’t really excel in any areas compared to her sister.
In terms of presence, her sister could effortlessly switch from a dignified lady to a youthful girl, and even pull off the mature look. As for looks? Her sister’s ageless face would have made her a top-three beauty back in university. Slogging through the entertainment industry? A piece of cake. As for IQ…
Total annihilation…
“Sis~ Let’s see who’s taller~”
Black Bean suddenly found a loophole and playfully leaned next to Ning Chu to compare heights.
“Come on you, you’re taller than me.” Ning Chu rolled her eyes, “You’re already165 cm tall, and you still wanna compete with me?”
“Hehe~”
Black Bean had been taller than her since she was fifteen or sixteen. It stung her pride the first time she realized it.
Why does a cute little catgirl have to be so tall?
“Have you eaten? Let me make you something?”
Ning Chu headed to the kitchen, ready to whip up something to welcome Black Bean home.
“I’ve eaten~ I want fried chicken legs~”
“Then let’s just order takeout?”
She returned from the kitchen, plopped down on the sofa, and ordered a fried chicken combo for Black Bean. Then she turned to look at Black Bean, who was perched on one side of the sofa, tail twitching like an excited cat. “Aren’t you just back from starting school for less than a month? Why are you home again?”
“I’m in my third year now~ It’s time for an internship!”
“Internships in third year?”
“I’m a college student, okay!” Black Bean flopped down on the sofa and tilted her head back onto Ning Chu’s lap, gazing up at her sister, “Now that school is mostly empty, I’m just doing my graduation project there. It’s better to come out and find an internship.”
She paused. “Mostly, I just miss my sister~”
“Your words are as sweet as sugar.”
Unbeknownst to both of them, the little kitten Ning Chu had picked up back then was now preparing for an internship and stepping into society.
Ning Chu found herself momentarily lost in thought, vividly recalling the stormy day when she and Wen Yang first met Black Bean.
That day, she was still a young boyish youth who got teased by the boss lady of the coffee shop…
“Why don’t you look for an internship near school?”
“I told you I can’t find one!” Black Bean puffed out her cheeks like a disgruntled kid, “All I want is a job where I can have weekends off! Is that a crime?”
“So, I came back to lean on brother-in-law! His company has weekends off, right?”
Ning Chu had never bothered to ask about Wen Yang’s company, tilting her head slightly in thought before answering, “Well, your brother-in-law does have weekends off.”
But as the boss, he often worked even while at home.
“By the way, have you found a boyfriend yet?” She leaned over with a cheeky smile, nudging Black Bean’s shoulder, “Aren’t you going to look for an internship together with him?”
Black Bean pouted. “Where would I find a boyfriend?”
“Shouldn’t you have one?”
Ning Chu looked at Black Bean with mild confusion.
I mean, this little catgirl is a supporting character in my little emperor’s tale. She’s definitely not lacking in looks, and would probably be considered a beauty out there. Sure, her chest is a bit smaller, but overall her figure isn’t half bad.
“All men are no good.”
Ning Chu nearly burst out laughing, remembering how someone was devastated when she had her first breakup and even took a leave to run back and cry about a j*rk.
Just a couple of years ago, Black Bean had been all love-struck…
“Mom…”
From the next room came a soft call, and Ning Chu and Black Bean looked up to see Shuqin rubbing her sleepy eyes, yawning as she looked at the two in the living room.
Clearly, Black Bean’s entrance had disturbed her nap.
“Shuqin!”
Black Bean joyfully dashed over and scooped her niece into her arms.
Shuqin still looked a bit dazed, instinctively squirming, glancing in a panic at her mom and then back at Black Bean, who was hugging her tightly.
“Do you remember who I am?”
Shuqin’s expression turned even more confused, tilting her head in Black Bean’s hold. “Who?”
Black Bean’s sweet smile froze, nearly bursting into tears. “Sis! Look at your daughter!”
She indignantly exclaimed, “I took her out to play every day last month! When I went to school she even cried chasing after me! How could she forget me in just a month? Such an ingrate!”
“She’s just a little kid~”
Ning Chu chuckled. Shuqin was only three years old—what kind of memory can you expect from her?
“I watched her grow up, you know!”
Black Bean’s excitement made her cat ears perk up, catching Shuqin’s attention. Curious, Shuqin raised her hand and grabbed Black Bean’s ear: “Kitty~”
“Ow! Let go! Ouch!”
“Keep it down, will you?” Wen Yang’s voice came through the study as he knocked on the sliding door. “I’ve got work to do over here.”
“Brother-in-law~” Black Bean put Shuqin down and bounced over, “Brother-in-law~ I want to work at your company! How much is the pay? You won’t cheat me, will you?”
Wen Yang paused, his eyebrows knitting slightly. Black Bean perked up immediately, putting on her most pitiful look.
“Any position is fine, as long as you can provide an internship certificate!”
“I can do that… How about this, I’ll find someone to mentor you so you can learn a little bit of skills?”
“Deal! I’m hard-working!” Black Bean declared with determination, patting her chest. “I won’t let you down! You’re the best, brother-in-law~”
Wen Yang shook his head helplessly, not holding out much hope for Black Bean.
Just as she was happily pondering her potential job, she suddenly felt a tug on her tail. She turned around to see tiny Shuqin trying to drag her toward Ning Chu.
“Mom! Kitty!”
“It’s ‘Little Aunt’, don’t pull at people’s tails, it’s rude.”
“Little Aunt?”
Black Bean winced in pain, quickly tucking her tail away and muttering, “You’ve been tugging at my tail since you were a kid…”
She returned to the sofa next to Ning Chu, propping her legs up on the coffee table. Shuqin, with her little legs, was bouncing after her, only to trip and faceplant onto the floor with a “Wah,” bursting into tears.
Ning Chu hadn’t even registered what happened, but Black Bean was startled and hurried over to comfort her. The more Shuqin cried, however, the more panic-stricken Black Bean became.
“Sis! Did she hurt herself!”
“No worries, if you ignore her she’ll stop crying.”
