607. Shao Qing and Qian Qian
Little Qian Qian was hiding in the guest room, peeking through the door with just her little head sticking out, curiously looking at the strange guests in the living room.
That uncle looked a bit scary, with a nonchalant smile plastered on his face while he was leaning back on the sofa, chatting away with her dad about who knows what, occasionally bursting into laughter. She could clearly feel her dad acting a little different than usual — it made her a bit uncomfortable.
Meanwhile, her mom and the unfamiliar cat were bustling around in the kitchen, laughing and chatting as they prepared dinner for today.
And here she was, feeling like she hardly even existed at home.
“Your daughter seems pretty scared, huh?” Zhang Shaoqing glanced over toward the guest room.
Qian Qian quickly pulled her head back, but her tail, which she hadn’t hidden well, was wagging nervously, giving away her position.
“Just a little coward, just like Ning Chu,” Wen Yang chimed in, raising his head. Seeing her not-so-hidden tail almost made him laugh. “Having a kid is quite interesting, even if it brings a lot of troubles.”
“Right? I kind of don’t want kids,” Shao Qing replied.
“Oh really? Will your mom agree?”
Shao Qing had been under his mother’s control since childhood, only getting a bit of freedom after graduating from university. But that was mainly because he had run off abroad with Qian Qian for a vacation.
“I used to want kids, but now with Qian Qian… I’m worried about the risks.”
Wen Yang realized: “Yeah, you’re getting to be an old parent.”
“What have you been up to all these years? You’re so close, yet we hardly see you at gatherings.”
Shao Qing sighed helplessly: “My mom put me in charge of the company, and I’m busy non-stop.”
“Come on, it’s me who’s busy. You just stay home playing video games instead of even going to the company and you’re streaming online,” Qian Qian said as she walked over with a fruit platter, not holding back at all. “You’re just lazy.”
“I’m building my own career!” Shao Qing excitedly pulled Wen Yang to brag, “You know? I have thousands of viewers on my stream! I plan to use the money I make to start another game company!”
“Is streaming that profitable?”
“I’ve made over a hundred thousand from streaming, and my mom is giving me a few million…”
Wen Yang shot him an eye roll.
Even though Shao Qing was indeed a bit unhinged, some clients of Wen Yang’s company were referred by this guy. Who knows if the company would even be profitable without him?
“I’m going to use the bathroom.”
“Remember to sit down.”
As soon as Shao Qing stood up, he incredulously turned back to Wen Yang: “You sit down to pee at home?!”
“Isn’t that what you do?”
“Seriously?! Are you even a man?” It was as if he’d seen a ghost; he was all up in arms. “Have you no dignity as a man? And you dare to talk about family status?”
Wen Yang waved his hand: “It’s no big deal.”
“Well, what counts as a big deal then?!”
“In a family, there really aren’t any big deals.”
Wen Yang used to be vehemently against sitting while peeing, but marriage ultimately boils down to a process of mutual compromise.
“I think sitting is better; otherwise, you’re always splattering everywhere,” Qian Qian thoughtfully nodded.
“I’ll clean it up!”
As Shao Qing headed to the bathroom, Wen Yang curiously asked Qian Qian: “Does he do this at home too?”
“Him? He can’t even sit at the table to eat.”
This made Wen Yang feel a lot better inside. Clearly, he could eat at the table at home.
Qian Qian, with a hint of a smile in her eyes, explained: “He plays games too often and doesn’t have time to eat; I always have to bring him food.”
“I’ll go help Ning Chu~”
In the kitchen, Ning Chu heard Qian Qian’s footsteps and took a quick glance: “What were you all arguing about just now?”
“Shao Qing insists on standing to pee.”
“Great, he’ll make a mess everywhere…” She frowned in discontent, her hands still stirring the dish. “When are you and Shao Qing getting married? It’s been ages.”
“We’re already married.”
“Huh?”
“We had a wedding abroad a few years ago and came back to get our marriage license. My mother almost exploded from anger.”
Ning Chu recalled the time she had gone to get her marriage license with Wen Yang.
She had also tried to sneakily get the license behind her mother’s back, but her mother was experienced in this area and caught her right off the bat.
“How’s your mother-in-law getting along with you now?”
“Pretty well~”
“That’s good… Could you please ladle out the soup for me? Dinner’s almost ready.”
Today, Shao Qing and Qian Qian came unexpectedly, and there weren’t many ingredients at home. Ning Chu only made three dishes and a soup.
But she also ordered takeout — five pounds of crayfish plus spicy frog. With those two men together, the night would undoubtedly involve drinking. Rather than going out where Wen Yang would be dragged to drink in some chaotic place, they might as well stay home.
“Have you booked the hotel?”
“Yeah, just a few hundred meters away, Shangri-La Hotel.”
“Five-star, huh~”
Rich people really do have it good; they’re probably in the most expensive suite.
Though Wen Yang was also running a company now, its profitability was mediocre at best, with less than ten employees. Compared to the conglomerate Shao Qing’s family ran, it wasn’t even in the same league.
“Shuqin! Dinner’s ready!”
As Ning Chu brought the dishes and takeout to the table, she called out toward the guest room.
After a moment, their daughter shuffled over, not too eager with her head down and rushed past the living room to sit down at the table.
Maybe it was because Ning Chu often used the tail to tease the succubus, but her daughter’s gaze kept secretly glancing at Qian Qian’s cat tail, itching for a chance.
“If only she’d be this quiet all the time…” Ning Chu shook her head helplessly, and then shouted to Wen Yang, “Honey! Go grab a couple of chairs from the study!”
“Got it!”
“Is her name Wen Shuqin?” Qian Qian looked at the shy little one and laughed, covering her mouth. “Who picked the name? It has a vibe from the ’80s and ’90s.”
“I…”
“Then that’s fine.”
Ning Chu rolled her eyes, sat down beside her daughter, and gently reassured her, “It’s okay; Qian Qian’s really nice~”
Qian Qian also nodded with a smile: “I’ll bring you a toy tomorrow, okay?”
With her big, round eyes turning, their daughter tentatively asked, “Can I touch your tail then?”
“Getting greedy, huh!” Ning Chu’s expression darkened. “Haven’t you touched your aunt’s tail enough?”
“Oh…”
Wen Yang and Shao Qing then strolled into the dining room. The moment their lively daughter perked up a bit, she immediately shrank back down, lowering her head and twisting her fingers together.
“Shao Qing, it’s your first time meeting my daughter; you should at least show your appreciation!” Ning Chu teased, raising an eyebrow at Shao Qing. “I wouldn’t mind a little extra; anything from ten to fifteen thousand will do.”
“Come on, I’m the one who has to get Qian Qian to front the money for my game purchases,” Shao Qing nonchalantly spread his hands. “I’m flat broke.”
He changed the subject: “If your daughter calls me ‘brother,’ I’ll give her my private money.”
Ning Chu couldn’t understand why this guy insisted on being in the same generation as her daughter.
Although in a manner of speaking, the characters that she created really were in the same generation as her daughter, and they could all call her dad and mom… If that’s the case, the relationship between Wen Yang and her would be quite thrilling.
“Qian Qian, he has private money.”
“Well, if he does, what’s the big deal? What man doesn’t have private money?” Qian Qian sighed helplessly. “Doesn’t Wen Yang have any?”
“All the money at home is under Wen Yang’s control; why would he need private money?”
“Not the same~”
