Chapter 48 – The Limits of Mortal Bones
Divine Resistance
: 6 stars. Some might think this number is low, but this is already the peak of Divine Resistance.
Tillysha had read in the books “Guide to Divine Analysis Technique” and “Studies and Discoveries on the Four Resistances of the Divine Princess,” that regarding the Divine Resistance of a Divine Princess, one to one and a half stars is considered average, two stars is considered normal, two and a half stars is already excellent, and three stars or above is exceptionally talented.
The Divine Resistance of the Moon Elf race’s Divine Princesses generally exceeds four stars. Aistride, as the current ‘Saintess’ of the Moon Elf race, naturally surpasses others. Her Divine Resistance has skyrocketed to a terrifying 6 stars.
This means that Divine attacks against her are effective less than one-third of the time—already an incredibly stunning figure.
Imagine in a situation where Divine attacks are flying everywhere; others have to bear nearly full Divine damage while Aistride only has to bear less than a third. This huge advantage can almost reverse the most lopsided battle situations.
That’s why the royal family of the Moon Elves is genuinely a ‘Divine Princess Killer.’ In one-on-one battles with Divine Princesses, they almost never lose.
Aistride softly chanted an incantation and drew her weapon—a slender crescent moon-shaped dagger that emitted a faint silver glow.
The guard of this dagger was crescent-shaped, and the blade was enveloped in a mist-like, ethereal silver glow. From afar, it seemed like a silver moon faintly visible through the clouds.
Tillysha was seeing Aistride take out this weapon for the first time. Previously, her sword was just a very ordinary slender crescent blade. This moon-shaped silver blade was custom-made for Aistride by the Elves after she left.
As the Saintess, it was naturally crafted by the most renowned and skilled Elven blacksmiths, and its style and aura fully proved this.
The most prominent characteristic of weapons forged by the Elves is that they are aesthetically pleasing yet highly capable. To put it simply, they are designed to be not only beautiful but also deeply profound, and their strength matches their appearance. This is why Divine Princesses are so eager to obtain Elven weapons.
Who doesn’t like something that’s both attractive and practical?
Weapons are a part of one’s prowess, thus in Divine Princess competitions, the use of personal weapons is allowed, including in the Crown Cup for newcomers.
Tillysha shifted her gaze to the student facing off against Aistride today’s second unfortunate soul.
When she caught sight of the female student, Tillysha paused momentarily, a flicker of astonishment crossing her face.
It’s her.
After obtaining the match schedule, Tillysha hadn’t paid attention to others’ schedules, only seeing her own. She hadn’t noticed right away that her original two teammates were placed in the same match.
“The second match in the afternoon will be between Aistride Aurelien and Rainy.”
So it’s Rainy?……
Looking at the black-haired human girl standing tremulously at the other end of the arena, Tillysha lightly closed her eyes.
After the judge announced the names of the participants, Tillysha knew without thinking what was going to happen next.
The sounds around them shifted from cheers to whispers of disdain.
“No surname, Wild Female?”
“Most likely. Look at what she’s wearing; no family Divine Princess would dress like that.”
“Haha, isn’t the outcome obvious? Probably even more one-sided than Princess Filisia’s match this morning.”
Tillysha shook her head.
She sincerely hoped her former teammates would thrive after leaving her, especially Rainy. But judging from the current situation…
Perhaps due to her background, Rainy had always been an unusually self-conscious Divine Princess.
Getting good treatment after leaving her would be best. What Tillysha feared most was if her former teammate’s situation worsened rather than improved.
Rainy’s gaze told her everything. It was filled with intense self-doubt when looking at Aistride.
Tillysha truly wished Rainy would find a humble Divine Prince. It wasn’t that she couldn’t tolerate Rainy doing well; rather, it’s the reality of the matter.
If her current Divine Prince were similarly humble in origins, that would be fine, but if he were of noble origin, their status disparity would create a delicate dynamic within the team, amplifying Rainy’s insecurity.
Once the other members realize Rainy’s docile and easily bullied nature, they would likely push her around even more ruthlessly.
The pessimistic look in Rainy’s eyes was ample proof.
Is this the ‘good team’ that the Wild Elf got Rainy?
Upon taking the field, Aistride softly spoke up, but her voice was drowned out by the noisy crowd. Tillysha didn’t hear what Aistride said, but she saw Rainy’s wide eyes, her pale lips clenched, speechless.
After a long while, Rainy finally looked up in despair, her eyes filled with resentment, and spoke to Aistride.
This left Tillysha somewhat surprised. Back when they were teammates, Rainy’s interactions with Aistride always had an undertone of insecurity except when speaking with her. So, why was it different today?
Upon hearing it, Aistride didn’t refute. A fleeting look of helplessness flashed across her eyes, then closed them, and slightly bowed her head.
This state passed quickly as she soon reopened her eyes, back to her calm demeanor.
“The match… begins!”
Aistride hoisted her silver blade, seven brilliant stars twinkling behind her, forming the figure of a silver moon Goddess praying through mist.
This was Aistride’s Divine Authority, [Chosen of the Moon].
The moonlight burned fiercely along the edge of Aistride’s blade.
This was the extraordinary effect obtained in the [Seven Stars Constellation] state.
In Tillysha’s eyes, the Seven Stars Constellation was already enough.
With gritted teeth, Rainy unleashed her Divine Princess Domain and Divine Authority.
Rainy’s Divine Princess Domain solidified into a leather suit of armor, with average four resistances, quite dull, fitting for a knight-class Divine Princess.
She drew a short sword, and a dim gray light appeared in her hand. A gray shield, embroidered with a wolf’s head, emerged in her grasp.
This was Rainy’s Divine Authority, [Guardian of the Evil Wolf]. Its concrete manifestation was a leather shield, so Rainy’s sword has always been a lightweight, one-handed type, suitable for use alongside the shield.
As former teammates, Tillysha only had a vague understanding of Aistride’s Divine Authority effects, not because Aistride was unwilling to share, but because the [Chosen of the Moon]’s Divine Authority effects were just far too many and complex. Tillysha could only remember the generalities.
The effects displayed by the [Chosen of the Moon] changed based on the number of stars involved. For instance, currently, the silver flames burning on Aistride’s sword represented the Seven Stars Constellation, and it was just one of the many effects within that constellation.
Furthermore, why was Aistride hailed by the Elves as a saintess in a thousand years?
Tillysha remembered, Aistride had mentioned to her that she had more than one Divine Authority.
In contrast, Tillysha remembered Rainy’s Divine Authority effects very clearly as they were just so simple: It could be summed up in one sentence.
Upon the shield being hit, it enhances its resistance to that type of damage.
That was it.
The exact increase was something Tillysha calculated in detail. The resistance increased by approximately 10%, which might theoretically increase with the Divine Authority level but currently, it was way too low, almost negligible.
Especially against Aistride, it was virtually nothing.
It was like the difference between a free-to-play player and a heavy spender.
Moreover, as a Divine Princess, Rainy had a considerable defect: she lacked the ability to perform Divine Authority attacks.
Her Divine Authority was purely defensive. She could only attack by slashing with her sword. Even against average Divine Princesses, this ability would already appear lackluster, let alone against Aistride.
(Expect tonight’s update to be a little delayed.)
