Chapter 8: Red Orc
“YOU!” Princess Filisia got the imperial officer’s face alternating between green and purple. Although he wanted to explode, seeing the four people ahead of him ready for battle and silently touching their weapons, he suppressed his anger for quite a while and eventually backed off.
It seemed that this troublemaker was pretty aware of his own weight. He knew the empire wouldn’t create friction with the Elf Forest behind Coleman Academy just for a few unknown soldiers, especially in this era promoting the unity of the Light Race to fight against external enemies. Whoever initiates the friction would be criticized, and given the current situation, the declining empire was powerless to make enemies everywhere.
Encountering a tough nut to crack, the imperious yet inwardly fearful imperial officer ended up in an awkward situation without a way out. He could only hum and act like ‘I won’t bother with you kids’ and then led his soldiers to walk away.
“The soldiers of the empire are worse than the last. Since the invasion of the Demon Race, the quality of the imperial army has plummeted, and now, they’ve only managed to recruit these hooligan-like misfits. It’s hilarious,” said Filisia coldly after watching the empire’s soldiers walk far away.
Dillin remembered that Filisia was Princess of the White Glass Kingdom, which was originally part of the empire but split off because of certain reasons later.
After this interlude, the four of them continued into the jungle, finally treading into Coleman Forest.
Generally, demons wouldn’t usually appear in Coleman Forest, but a number of relatively weaker monsters would seep in. Thus, all of them took off their weapons from their bodies and held them in their hands.
Filisia dragged her Crown Gigantic Sword and walked at the front. Due to the Dragon Roar, her eyes involuntarily filled with an aggressive aura, searching for anything that could be attacked to relieve her emotions.
Monsters appearing in front of Filisia at this time would be like sleeping next to a cesspool, or leaving home without checking the calendar.
Soon, the first unlucky victim appeared. A gray rabbit with large incisors passed through the grass. This rabbit had red and bloodshot eyes, two to three times larger than an ordinary rabbit, with a pair of sharp fangs that could easily bite through a prey’s artery.
Despite its low attack, it was indeed a monster.
A sinister smile curved on Filisia’s lips, and her tongue slightly flicked at the corner of her mouth. She leaped up, and before the rabbit could dodge, she flattened it.
Literally flattened. She turned the sword blade over, leaving only a mess of rabbit sauce. The sound of bones and flesh breaking was crisp in that moment.
Just appearing and looking at Filisia once resulted in getting hit by the big sword, honestly, it was quite unfortunate.
Seeing Filisia’s excited face, Wenfu immediately hid behind Aistride, hugging the silver-haired elf’s white and voluptuous long legs timidly.
Dillin looked at the scene with a raised eyebrow and, following the excellent spirit of not wasting food resources, went to inspect if this rabbit could provide a meal. However, it was likely not possible.
The internal organs and bones were fragmented and stuck together with bl**d. Eating it would probably be full of bone fragments and the stench of dirty organs.
What a pity.
Next, they encountered several more monsters in the jungle. Without exception, they were all smashed into paste before they could escape or cause mischief.
As they continued, bl**d dripped from the sword blades onto the ground, making Wenfu’s ears tremble. She felt a bit uneasy, especially when she saw Filisia dismember a mutated cat monster; her tail hair stood up.
Aistride thoughtfully covered Wenfu’s eyes.
Good child, don’t look at these.
If the smell of bl**d on the sword gets too strong, it could attract other monsters in the jungle. However, for a long time, not a single monster dared to pass them.
These monsters seem to have a pretty strong instinct for survival.
At noon, the four arrived at the boundary between Coleman Forest and Ruglien. When they stepped out of the forest and entered Ruglien, Dilin felt the light of the noonday sun dim a little.
“Here, this is Ruglien?…” Wenfu looked around and felt that aside from being somewhat eerie, this wasteland was no different from Caleburn.
“There’s a vast wasteland ahead. Do we have a map?”
“If we had that sort of thing, we wouldn’t need to specially come for reconnaissance,” Dilin sighed and activated the Divine Analysis Technique.
Aside from some tracks that didn’t belong to humans, there was nothing worth paying attention to.
“What’s the situation, Dilin?” Seeing Dilin’s eyes flashing with a faint fluorescence, Filisia turned and asked.
“There are some footprints on the ground, they should be from last night. No major issues,” Dilin replied. “There are no fresh footprints nearby, it’s uncertain if there are people here or not, but the Goblins shouldn’t be living in such a place.”
Goblin nests usually would choose places like shrub forests that can hide caves, not open wastelands.
After hearing this, Aistride and Filisia were both somewhat surprised.
The level of the Divine Analysis Technique that could see the footprints was definitely not low.
Until now, they thought Dilin was an add-on item not very useful. Filisia thus somewhat changed her opinion about him.
It wasn’t entirely his fault to be viewed this way. After all, since the formation of the team, Dilin indeed hasn’t made any significant contribution, and he hasn’t had a chance to release the Divine Analysis Technique as the opponents were already divided by Filisia and Aistride.
The team continued to advance forward. Dilin didn’t turn off the Divine Analysis Technique. After taking the mental agent, Dilin’s spiritual power considerably increased. Combined with his study during this period, his mental capacity and control ability also improved a lot.
Traveling through the unknown wasteland, the Divine Analysis Technique of the divine progeny was particularly important, acting like a radar.
Taking advantage of the enhancement of spiritual power, Dilin recently acquired the relevant skills of [Wide-area Perception].
Gradually, Dilin, carrying the fire rifle, replaced Filisia and walked at the front of the team.
The other people were all curious and looking at Dilin.
Dilin’s spiritual power already radiated out as the ‘eyes,’ making their vision with n*ked eyes rather redundant, hence they occasionally glanced at Dilin.
In Dilin’s vision, it was the first time he used the Wide-area Perception into practice. This feeling was like attaching his five senses to the mental power and then releasing it, forming an invisible semicircular hood of perception around. Any object passing through the semicircular hood would be scanned and identified.
Suddenly, Dilin stopped.
“Live creature detected in the northwest direction,” Dilin squatted down, looking for a rock.
The rest followed his action and also squatted down, holding their breath tensely.
“Coming this way,” Dilin said.
After a while, when the other three were a little hesitant, Aistride’s pointed ears moved. Her sharp hearing caught a series of slow footsteps.
Very soon, Filisia and Wenfu also heard them, and they instinctively leaned against the rock, looking at the source of the sound.
An enormous scarlet figure rose from the horizon. It had a killer ponytail hairstyle, its bulging muscles seemed to have prominent veins, a pair of fangs extended out, sticking on both sides of his cheeks, and it carried a wooden-handled giant axe on its shoulder.
Wenfu covered her mouth. For kitten, this was the first time she saw such a towering giant.
Even Aistride’s cold eyebrows showed a wrinkle.
“This is the Red Orc, generally larger in size than the Green Orc. They dislike group living, prefer solitude, are immensely strong, but not all red orcs have divine authority and understand how to use magic and alchemy,” Dilin informed his teams about this monster’s information.
“The book mentions that Red Orcs are more warlike than Green Orcs, extremely aggressive. They would confront any enemy they encounter.”
This was Brilliant Sun and Moon’s first encounter with the Demon Race, Dilin thought. They didn’t have much combat experience against the Demon Race, and it was their first time seeing a Red Orc.
This was a real live Red Orc, not a still image in the book. Individual differences exist, and depending solely on the book knowledge is not acceptable.
Encountering such an aggressive opponent in a wasteland definitely means a fight would not be avoidable, so it was better to launch a surprise attack instead of being passively hit.
While Dilin was thinking about the tactics, someone had already started the team’s rhythm.
“Mr. Dilin, Sister Filisia rushed out!” Wenfu yelled.
“Huh??” Hearing Wenfu’s voice, Dilin paused his thought and looked up, only to find that Filisia had already jumped from the rock and caught the Orc’s gaze.
Ah…
He missed a beat. He didn’t take into account Filisia’s current abnormal state.
At present, Filisia would attack any biological entity she could attack. Even stray dogs would probably receive a slap or two.
When Filisia dragging the giant sword saw the Orc’s robust muscles, her eyes shone with excitement.
Walking in the wasteland, the Red Orc suddenly felt an enmity nearby, was startled at first, and then his pupil-less little eyes looked at the female human rushing towards him. His eyes flashed with a hint of disdain.
He didn’t reject any challenge, even if it came from frail humans willing to commit s*icide.
The colossal battleaxe and the giant sword clashed together, and the sand under their feet was all churned up. The gale swept across Filisia’s face, fluttering her hairs. With the vigorous movements, her chest shook violently.
The Orc was surprised. He didn’t expect this little human to be able to confront him directly, and thus became interested.
This human girl had a lot of strength, but not enough.
The Orc gradually pressed the axe down, slowly sinking Filisia’s boots covered by knight long boots into the ground.
“Bang!” They were wrestling, and Dilin aimed at the Red Orc’s face and fired one g*n, which was not playing by the rules.
Tasting a mouthful of gunpowder, the Red Orc suffered a fiery pain in his cheeks. The violent impact made his head tilt back, and Filisia took this opportunity, found a spot, gathered all her strength, and lifted the giant sword, flipping the Red Orc over, belly up.
Infused with power, the giant sword was covered with a layer of energy crystals, fiercely slashing the Red Orc’s abdomen. Seeing this, Wenfu immediately enhanced the attack power and added her strength, making Filisia’s heavy slash more powerful.
Aistride slashed with silver flames, cutting the Red Orc who couldn’t get up in time, while Dilin continuously shot at the Red Orc at a distance, regardless of whether he could hit or not, just for firepower covering.
A puff of smoke rose, and when everyone thought the attack was effective, the towering figure of the Red Orc emerged from the foggy smoke, charging towards Filisia.
Seeing the Red Orc could still get up, everyone was startled.
The Red Orc’s eyes were filled with raging fire. Each step he took seemed to make the surrounding land shake.
Filisia, too slow to evade, drove her giant sword into the ground and clenched her teeth.
Dilin lifted his rifle and shot at the Red Orc, Aistride chopped out a silver flame again, and Wenfu was responsible for enhancement.
The Red Orc didn’t care about the bullets shooting into his body, as if not sensing the fire rifle shooting at him. Upon seeing the silver flame of the flying blades, he swung his beefy arm and dispersed them.
“Boom Boom Boom!!” Filisia was struck by the Red Orc rushing towards her and was thrown out. After rolling on the ground a few times, she stood up without any damage.
When she was struck, she didn’t move initially, and thus the impact did not cause substantial harm. At most, it would cause some painless bruises to Filisia.
Usually, receiving such a full-force collision blow from the Red Orc would either k*ll the victim or relocate their internal organs. Seeing how tough and unyielding Filisia was, the Red Orc roared loudly, not only not scared, but with increased fighting spirit.
d*mn, the first battle in Ruglien faced such a tough opponent?!
Dilin felt like cursing.
Since Filisia’s sword was bloody, the Orc would sense it when approaching, meaning they can’t run in the wasteland. This was an unavoidable fight.
It would be fine if it was a Green Orc or an ordinary Orc, but why was it so tough and impossible to hit?
Dilin felt like he was riding a tiger, hard to get down, which said reconnaissance but ended up in an inevitable battle.
“Are we going to fight hard? Are you alright, Wenfu?”
“Ah, ah? No, I’m fine?”
“Really?” Looking at Wenfu’s trembling legs, Dilin sighed.
Filisia was fighting hand-to-hand with the Red Orc. It seemed that there wouldn’t be a winner in the short term.
Dilin looked at Aistride, who understood his intentions. After allowing Wenfu to stay behind, Dilin and Aistride moved forward together.
“Boom Boom!” Filisia was thrown away again by the Red Orc’s giant axe just as he was about to pursue her. At this point, Aistride suddenly pulled out a silver moon big bow and shot randomly.
The luminous arrow flying out from the Silver Moon bow looked like it had eyes. It spiraled in the air for a while and then fiercely collided with the Red Orc’s back of the head.
This made the tough-skinned beast feel the pain and become unable to maintain balance.
Dilin kept shooting at the Red Orc, aiming for his face and making him unable to open his eyes.
After Filisia recovered, she drove her giant sword into the ground, causing crystalline walls to rise and split into small crystal fragments, which swept towards the Red Orc.
“Boom Boom!” The Red Orc staggered a few times and fell down.
