025. Skipping Class?
==============================
After a brief interaction, Lin Nan discovered that Lin Yuan wasn’t as aloof as he had imagined.
His coolness was a bit like Xiong Da’s, where Xiong Da was lost in his own world, while Lin Yuan seemed to just use his aloofness as a facade.
In just one lecture of two hours, the chill of that facade was quickly stripped away by Lin Nan and the gang. The five of them—Lin Nan, Li Na, Chen Yao, Xiong Da, and Lin Yuan—turned the classroom into a battlefield, ignoring the teacher at the podium who was earnestly lecturing from his notes. Thankfully, they remembered it was class, so they kept their voices down during the exchanges.
However, while playing games, Lin Nan couldn’t shake the feeling of a cold stare at his back, as if a ghost was watching him.
After class came a professional course, one not attended by several classes or even the entire department, allowing Lin Nan to finally escape Li Na’s terrifying gaze.
“From now on, I’m never stepping outside except for class!”
At noon, Lin Nan returned to the dormitory and made his resolute vow.
Chen Yao was left speechless; he never imagined Lin Nan would be so averse to women.
Tu Junhui was far less discreet, immediately teasing, “Are you really that scared of her? You don’t secretly like guys, do you? I think I’m not bad! How about we try going out together?”
“Get lost!” Lin Nan scoffed, giving him the finger. “You go have your fun; don’t drag me into your mess.”
Though Tu Junhui often joked about such things, if there were no surprises, he had long had his sights set on a girl. His fitness journey last year was inspired by her, but unfortunately, it didn’t pan out.
Some say that a bit of gay vibe in a boys’ dorm is totally normal.
Returning to his lonely seat, Lin Nan cast an envious glance at the others’ computers, feeling a strong urge to buy a new one.
If the competition could score him a championship, a nice computer for three thousand on installment wouldn’t be too much to handle. Just have to tighten the belt a bit around the daily expenses.
“Hey, Nan Nan,” Tu Junhui said from behind, leaning on his chair. “Weren’t you planning on buying a new computer? How about my two-thousand-yuan one?”
“Huh?”
“I’m looking to buy a fancy one for over ten thousand.”
Now that’s a wealthy guy…
Lin Nan was green with envy. Among the four of them, his monthly allowance was only a thousand, while the other three were comfortably at two or three thousand each. Tu Junhui calmly talking about a ten-thousand-yuan computer was no surprise; he truly was living the high life.
If it were him, even splurging on an extra bottle of cola felt like too much.
“So if I win the competition… I’ll buy your computer on installments?”
“That works.” Tu Junhui shrugged; after all, they shared a dorm, so once Lin Nan had the computer, he couldn’t escape that.
His computer was only two years old, originally over five thousand, and now selling to Lin Nan for only two thousand felt like a reasonable deal, especially since Tu Junhui took good care of his machine. It ran games smoothly, with no blue screens or weird issues.
Lin Nan primarily played League of Legends anyway, so he didn’t really need a top-notch computer.
He felt he was getting quite a deal, so he happily washed his face on the balcony and then borrowed a temporarily unused laptop from a neighbor’s dorm, eagerly returning to his own to game, immediately pushing all previous annoyances to the back of his mind.
Since unlocking a magic spell that boosted his reflexes, Lin Nan found himself slightly better at games than before. The spell had helped him quickly counter Li Na on the playground; without it, he wouldn’t have been able to judge how to escape so precisely or manage those moves with no prior fighting experience.
He suddenly thought that even if he couldn’t unlock all of Lilith’s spells, perhaps just unlocking the long-lasting and passive physical ones would make him the best in every aspect.
Unfortunately, most magic spells had vague requirements for unlocking, and the ones that had specific limits often required some self-harm, which he definitely wasn’t crazy enough to volunteer for.
In the afternoon, it was time for gym class, and Chen Yao was the student representative. He had tested the waters last week and found the new gym teacher delightfully lazy, casually tossing the attendance list to him…
“How about we skip class in the afternoon?” Lin Nan suddenly suggested.
He absolutely loathed gym class, especially the two laps of slow running after attendance. He could run until the end of days, but what was worse was being forced to learn how to sh**t hoops despite having zero interest in basketball. It was rumored that shooting would be the semester’s physical education final, but with Chen Yao, the sports rep, around to help him cheat, it seemed manageable.
After all, Chen Yao had gotten by in the previous year’s sports exams mainly because of pure luck. When the teacher called for a sixteen-second sprint, Chen Yao would still note down just fifteen seconds without a flicker of an eye; there were too many students, and as long as the teacher wasn’t scrutinizing them closely, no one would expose the truth.
The idea of skipping class was met with immediate double thumbs-up from Tu Junhui: “Let’s ditch it! We can duo queue this afternoon!”
“I’m not going either.” Xiong Da, usually quiet, nodded resolutely.
Chen Yao blinked in confusion, “What? You guys can’t just leave me here!”
He was the sports representative—if he didn’t show up, it would be immediately obvious.
“You’re still going to ball anyway; doesn’t matter if we tag along or not, right?” Lin Nan chimed in cheerfully, patting Chen Yao on the shoulder, then abruptly turned solemn, “Comrade! We must make sacrifices for the dormitory!”
“Then why don’t you sacrifice together with me?” Chen Yao scoffed, still focused on his computer, “Besides, you still need to return that laptop, and you can’t just play all afternoon.”
“If you go, I’ll just play on your computer!”
“Nope, you need to exercise; this is for your own good.”
Tu Junhui quickly chimed in to convince him, but Chen Yao was as stoic as a wall, unmoved by their pleading.
Lin Nan felt the pressure rising and began to promise benefits: “How about I take attendance for you tonight? You can just chill in the dorm and play computer instead?”
“Or I could treat you to a meal?”
“We have such a good relationship~”
“Next time you want to skip class, do you think I’ll cover for you?”
As he was negotiating, Lin Nan suddenly noticed the dorm fell completely silent. Realizing how flirty his tone had become, he was taken aback.
Looking down, he realized he’d unconsciously leaned forward, resting his forearm on Chen Yao’s shoulder, with his nose only a few centimeters away from Chen Yao’s hair, close enough to catch the faint scent he once smelled in the internet cafe.
His face turned dark as he hurriedly straightened up, feeling terribly embarrassed, “Forget it, if it’s that much trouble…”
When he turned to the other three, he found them looking at him with strange expressions.
d*mn it, what a humiliation! All thanks to Lilith!
He quickly covered his face and fled, bolting straight to the balcony.
