038. Before National Day
==============================
The results of the medical examination came out quickly.
So fast that Lin Nan couldn’t even react, and when the cold, hard results were in front of her, Lin Nan realized she had really messed up big time.
There was indeed a full set of female organs inside her now, her genes had turned into XX, and her hormone levels had hit the normal range for a woman.
Worth mentioning is that this set of female organs only developed to the level of a normal twelve or thirteen-year-old girl, meaning Aunt Flo might be paying a visit soon. So, it looks like Li Na’s reminder was all in good faith.
If Lin Nan wanted to have a baby right now, she could just wave her magic wand and make her female organs fully develop…
But this shouldn’t be happening!
Before using magic, Lin Nan had always thought that the next day she would have fairer skin, slimmer arms and legs, or a more feminine face, but never imagined that her internal organs would be the ones going through the makeover.
So, naturally, she spiraled into a bit of a gloomy state.
From now on, even without using magic, she would gradually become more feminine. If she didn’t use magic, in the future she might have to shell out money for surgery to remove something extra that she didn’t need.
Otherwise, the normally optimistic Lin Nan wouldn’t be sulking this much.
To put it bluntly, this was like living a nightmare with her imagined gender identity taking a turn for the bizarre.
On Wednesday morning, Lin Nan finally gathered herself.
Calmly, she started thinking of countermeasures instead of just whining about her misfortune. Should she tell her parents about this situation? Since outwardly she didn’t look particularly more feminine but inwardly had fully flipped to a female, they would probably just think there was a glitch when she was born.
But how could she even bring that up?
She had to solve the gender issue before graduating; either turn back into a male or get a female ID. If not, her college diploma, all her other credentials, and exam scores would be like pieces of useless paper.
Was there a way to turn back into a male?
Lin Nan didn’t know anything about magic; after thinking for a bit, she couldn’t come up with a plan. Maybe she could use a transformation spell to disguise herself as a guy, but that spell was not a passive skill and came with a time limit.
If she stopped using magic afterward, the damage was done, and she’d end up looking like a guy with a woman’s body—an absolute disaster.
Headache.
Slowly, Lin Nan crawled out of bed, expressionless, grabbed her toiletries, and headed to the balcony.
Chen Yao was quickly jolted awake by her movement, nimbly jumping out of bed and scurrying after Lin Nan.
“How is it? Feeling better?”
“Not really,” Lin Nan replied stiff-faced.
“Hey, we already have a bear in the dorm. Why do you look like that?” Chen Yao leaned against the railing, yawning widely.
As he watched Lin Nan wash up, he felt like she seemed… more feminine?
He couldn’t put his finger on it; she didn’t look different, but there was something about the first glance that felt off.
But he didn’t dare say it or ask, so he switched topics. “The day after tomorrow is National Day break, and I bet Xiong Da and Junhui are going home…”
“Yeah, I know.”
“If you get bored in the dorm, come find me. I’ll be playing games, and aside from wedding banquets around meal times, I’m free anytime.” Chen Yao was quite worried about Lin Nan’s current state. He couldn’t be in the dorm these days, fearing Lin Nan might end up alone and something could go wrong. “What about I ask Dong An to come over every day? He’s got nothing to do for National Day and will probably just stay cooped up in the dorm.”
“Forget it, I’ll just get mad if I see him.”
“He’s a nice guy.”
Lin Nan spat out her toothpaste and rinsed her mouth before turning to him. After a moment’s pause, she let out a long sigh and began washing her face.
She needed to get her thoughts out, but even saying it to Chen Yao wouldn’t be of much use.
Noticing her hesitation, Chen Yao hurriedly prodded, “If you have something on your mind, just tell me! I promise not to tell anyone! I won’t laugh at you.”
He felt Lin Nan’s issue was probably emotional; the night before, he had gone online to look up tips on how to comfort a heartbroken friend. Now he was filled with confidence and full of clever ideas.
Lin Nan shook her head, then nodded. “Let’s talk online during National Day.”
She was too shy to say such things face-to-face; having known each other for so long, Chen Yao naturally understood and nodded in agreement without hesitation.
“Junhui seems like he’s leaving tomorrow afternoon,” Chen Yao mentioned, grabbing his own toiletries. “He said he’ll be skipping class tomorrow and wants us to sign him in.”
“Sounds like he’s just shooting off his mouth.”
Lin Nan stood in front of the wardrobe, about to change out of her sleep shorts when she turned around to find Chen Yao gaping at her on the balcony.
While she thought it was just normal eye contact during a conversation, it made her feel uneasy, so she grabbed a pair of long pants and headed straight to the bathroom. Chen Yao felt a bit regretful, but honestly, seeing Lin Nan’s long legs every day was a bit too hard to bear.
Who knows how a man’s legs could look so perfectly photoshopped—they were long and slender. Of course, Lin Nan didn’t work out, so they lacked muscle definition, but they looked good anyway.
Soon Lin Nan changed into her regular clothes and went back to the dorm. She glanced at the now-awake Tu Junhui and others, then started putting on her shoes to head to class.
During the first week of classes, although Tu Junhui and Xiong Da got up late, they managed not to be late. However, it was only the fourth week of classes, and they realized most of the teachers were pretty easygoing. Apart from a couple of strict ones, most classes started with at least a ten-minute delay.
Coincidentally, at least half of the students in Lin Nan’s class were the same way, and the teachers had no objections.
Lin Nan and Chen Yao couldn’t be bothered to wait for Tu Junhui and the others. Once they were ready, they headed toward the cafeteria; it was still early, and Lin Nan planned to grab breakfast.
Usually, Lin Nan wasn’t too interested in breakfast, but since her female organs were nearing maturity, and if all went as planned, Aunt Flo would be visiting in the next month or two. To avoid experiencing that royal pain in the stomach, she had to stick to a healthier diet.
The cafeteria had a decent selection for breakfast: porridge, soy milk, deep-fried dough sticks, steamed buns, various fried snacks, and even a Sha County stall, pretty much enough to satisfy most people’s needs.
Chen Yao didn’t have much interest in breakfast; he hadn’t stepped foot in the cafeteria since the semester began.
“By the way, are you looking for a part-time job during the National Day break?” Chen Yao suddenly asked. “A friend has news that a milk tea shop needs a part-time server, but it’s a bit far, and the pay isn’t that great.”
“How far?” Lin Nan perked up, her previously bored face showing a hint of interest.
“Two hours by bus, seven hundred for seven days.”
Without a second thought, Lin Nan eagerly nodded, “I’m in!”
