136. Awkward

Lin Nan was really fed up with his cowardly attitude. He was all set to unlock some magic, but when it came to actually speaking, he chickened out and said something entirely different.
What a loser.
But these magic unlock methods did seem simple enough, and she thought she could handle them. However, when it came down to the execution, the level of embarrassment was comparable to wearing a swimsuit while being stared at by a crowd—if only she could change the audience, maybe she’d stand a chance?
Like that pesky junior who kept pestering her about learning support magic?
On the way to the playground, Lin Nan still had a blush on her cheeks, but her mind was starting to buzz with ideas.
Chen Yao, on the other hand, seemed pretty indifferent, probably just thinking that his previous antics were mere pranks. Maybe he had some thoughts but was too afraid to ask, worried it would get awkward.
By the time they reached the playground, it was already nearing ten o’clock.
Normally, the dorm check-in was at ten-thirty, and they could sign in by eleven. This meant Lin Nan and her gang could run around the playground for half an hour without any issues.
However, signing in was kind of a hassle since they had to show ID to confirm their identities. Otherwise, if the dormitory trio decided to help him sign in daily, he would have moved off-campus long ago.
Once on the track, and with the late roll call approaching, only a handful of students remained.
“Alright, I can run a couple of laps with you,” Chen Yao reluctantly stretched and sighed, “Couldn’t you have asked me to run earlier? I’ve already showered; now I’ll have to shower again.”
Lin Nan couldn’t care less about his complaints, her head was full of how to unlock magic.
What if she’d told Chen Yao she wanted to film a confession video for the internet? Would he have completely cooperated?
She regretted thinking about that, knowing Chen Yao’s personality, he’d definitely help out, though he would question her motives… Lilith couldn’t bear the blame, but wasn’t Li Na a perfect scapegoat too?
Before running, Chen Yao did some warm-up exercises, while Lin Nan dismissed all that nonsense and started to leisurely jog along the rubber track.
What if Li Na, despite his strong objections, forced him into doing something embarrassing?
Chen Yao would probably come bursting in to stop Li Na, but what if Li Na managed to knock Chen Yao out with a punch?
Though Lin Nan thought that as a saintess, she probably wouldn’t resort to criminal acts… but what if?
Lin Nan was a mess; even if he unlocked the most powerful magic, there was no way he could pull Li Na’s hand away, so he could only hope she’d back off due to his strong resistance…
Chen Yao trudged along beside Lin Nan, observing her furrowed brows and deep in thought, he somewhat understood her anxiety.
If Lin Nan hadn’t told him, he wouldn’t have known she was being throttled by Li Na.
He had heard rumors about Li Na being a bit strange. Who would have thought she was a villain in disguise?
She was after Lin Nan’s body!
After just one lap, Chen Yao’s breathing was a bit more hurried than usual, but when he turned to look at Lin Nan, she was so out of breath she couldn’t even talk.
“You really need to get in shape,” Chen Yao said, frowning. “Didn’t you run with Tu Junhui every day when school started? Why not keep it up?”
“That guy… he suddenly started playing dungeons and wouldn’t go anymore.”
Plus, even though she had been consistent for over a week, Lin Nan felt no improvement. Instead, her calves were killing her, and getting in and out of bed was a struggle.
Distracted while talking, her feet began to slow down. But on catching a glimpse of the seemingly effortless Chen Yao, a surge of unwillingness urged her to speed up.
Just as she was about to push off…
Her left foot went soft, she tripped over her right, and Lin Nan’s brain went blank as she fell flat on the ground.
She hadn’t even tripped when her body first started to feminize and the shoes were too loose—yet here she was, after just one lap, and she wiped out like a pro…
“Whoa! Are you alright?” Chen Yao stopped in a hurry and rushed over, “How do you even manage to fall?”
“Ugh…” Lin Nan felt tears welling up from the pain as she sat up, everything hurt, but thankfully, nothing seemed broken.
“Where did you land? Are you bleeding?” Chen Yao squatted down, trying to see how Lin Nan was doing, but the playground lights were pretty dim, and Lin Nan was backlit, so all he could make out was her pitiful expression.
He leaned in closer, “So? Can you get up?”
“Um, it seems like…” Lin Nan wanted to get up directly but suddenly felt a strange j*rk in her mind and shook her head emphatically, “Nope! Can’t get up!”
“Is it a fracture?” Chen Yao got even more nervous, squatting by Lin Nan, “Did you hurt your knee? Where does it hurt? The school nurse is off duty now.
Should I call for an ambulance?”
No, it’s just a bruise, not life-threatening! Did she really need an ambulance?
She wiped away a tear; ever since she became more feminine, her tear ducts had been overly sensitive—she’d tear up from even a small pain, but she wasn’t really crying!
But to Chen Yao, that was a different story.
Chen Yao had no idea why his mind was so blank at that moment. He often played sports and had seen friends trip and even break something, but when it was Lin Nan, he completely lost his cool.
“Maybe try to stand up?” In the dim light, Chen Yao peered at Lin Nan but still couldn’t figure out what was wrong.
“What if it really is a fracture…”
True, if it was a fracture, she could end up making things worse!
A cool breeze blew, and Chen Yao’s frantic mind finally managed to calm down a bit. He pulled out his phone and shoved it into Lin Nan’s hands, speaking fast, “Here’s the phone; you call the infirmary. The nurse might be off-duty, but she presumably lives on campus. Have her sort you out, and then we’ll see if you need a hospital.”
“There’s a note in the phone, just search for the infirmary.”
Lin Nan was a bit dazed; as she took the phone and tried unlocking the screen, suddenly she felt herself being lifted off the ground, as if she were flying.
Fortunately, she had a quick-reaction passive magic helping her; she quickly clutched Chen Yao’s phone securely and then looked down in confusion behind her.
When did this happen?
Was she… being princess-carried?
Lin Nan blinked her wide eyes at Chen Yao, while he urged, “I’ll carry you over; you make the call to the nurse.”
“Hey… can you not let your hand rest on my chest?”
