187. Lilith’s Brief Journey
Chen Yao was ready to beat himself to d*ath with frustration.
Even though Lin Nan looked as clueless as ever, and Zheng Qian clearly hadn’t done anything outrageous, who knows if he had done something he thought was low-risk but sneaky with Lin Nan!
Who would have thought Zheng Qian, that thick-browed, big-eyed guy, was such a sly dog!
If he had known Zheng Qian had his eyes on Lin Nan, he wouldn’t have carelessly spilled any information about her during their chats.
So frustrating!!!
The cleanliness of the rental apartment looked significantly better than the layer of dust it had gathered since yesterday. Lin Nan wondered if Zheng Qian had come over to clean it intentionally.
The space was just too cramped, and a few roommates had already left the room to hang out in the hallway, smoking and chatting by the window.
Lin Nan spread out the bamboo mat on the bed but quickly realized the dorm-sized mat was far too small for the double bed. She’d have to plan on picking up a proper one at the supermarket after lunch.
There was no desk for her computer, so she had to plop it down on the small coffee table in front of the couch, which was the exact same height. Lin Nan thought she really should buy a small table for gaming in bed; otherwise, hunched over the coffee table every day would be pure torture.
She found places to put some necessary items, casually tossing the cat litter and bowl in a corner, while the rest of the stuff that wasn’t needed at the moment was left crammed in a woven bag, making the already cramped space feel even tighter.
“All set!” Lin Nan shot a glance at Cola, who was curled up on the couch, staring at her with judgmental eyes, and casually commanded, “I’m heading out for lunch. Don’t mess with anything, or you’ll pay for it when I get back!”
Cola sneezed disdainfully.
“Wonder if there’s a cat meat place nearby…”
Cola nodded vigorously, as if approving.
Ever since Lin Nan discovered that this cat seemed to understand her tone, she couldn’t resist threatening Cola for fun.
What a little devil!
Inside Cola, Lilith glowered at Lin Nan when her back was turned, as if she still had the power to k*ll anyone with just a glare.
But nothing happened, and Lin Nan happily left to grab a bite to eat. Lilith immediately got up from the couch and pranced over to check the cat bowl.
This devil didn’t even leave me any cat food!
She was filled with righteous indignation; Lin Nan was just her spare body! Merely the vessel for her reincarnation! How dare she act so obnoxiously!
Not only making the noble witch eat cat food and wet food! But she even planned on getting her spayed!
Fuming, she turned to find something sharp to slam her head into, but just like in Lin Nan’s cramped dorm, there was nothing sharp around—just the edges of the bed frame or table corner. That stuff could only knock her out, not really doing the trick.
I’m so hungry…
Since turning into a cat, she had only tearfully eaten cat food last night under duress. Now her stomach was growling, and she suddenly missed the humiliating canned food.
Sure, it was animal food, but at least it could fill her belly… What hasn’t Lilith endured?
But this time, it seriously made her think about self-destruction.
Glancing up at the open window, she had gradually adjusted to her feline body over the past couple of days. After a few attempts, she finally jumped up to the windowsill, ready for a dramatic vertical leap of d*ath, when she suddenly spotted a few stray dogs rummaging through trash below.
Not even d*ath should end with being eaten by dogs, right?
Lilith felt like crying from sheer frustration.
Before debating life and body swaps, she desperately wanted to escape from Lin Nan, the devil.
This devil even knew another creep! If it got out that her soul was trapped in a cat’s body, who knew what kind of unbearable humiliation she’d face.
So she adjusted her body and carefully leapt from the windowsill.
Navigating a few air conditioning units and other windows, Lilith quickly landed in the alley.
She looked back at Lin Nan’s rental apartment window and huffed, “Just wait! I’ll find another body and be back to settle the score! You little devil!”
She planned to use her cat form to find another body to reincarnate into; otherwise, a powerless soul was just too flimsy, especially with that perverted Lina lurking around. Only in a cat’s body could she hide for a while.
As she prepared to leave with her feline swagger, she suddenly noticed those scrappy dogs had lowered their heads, grinning, and were steadily closing in to surround her.

With the encirclement forming, she bolted.
Just a bunch of pups! I’m the great witch, the creator of the new world, Lilith! Meow! Tail!
Her tail nearly got bitten off, causing Lilith to panic and see a low wall ahead. With a quick burst of adrenaline, she leaped nimbly onto the wall, ready to look back and gloat at the pups, but she stepped wrong and plop—down she went on the other side.
Dazed and confused, she picked up her head to find herself face-first in a trash heap.
She meowed curses as she struggled out of the pile of garbage, dejectedly leaving the alley for the street outside.
It was already noon, and the street was bustling with people, while a bus stop across the road was crowded with students waiting.
After observing the pedestrians for a moment, she estimated that about one in ten seemed to have magical talent, with perhaps one in a thousand strong enough for her to regain her old powers.
But even that was a pretty wild statistic. Lilith suspected if her world’s magic reached this one, it would be swarming with witches, with saintesses beneath dogs!
Of course, she meant power, not status like her and Lina’s.
Finding a suitable candidate for rebirth was the plan. Lowering her standards, she quickly spotted a shop owner nearby who had solid magical talent.
Though he was a greasy, big-bellied middle-aged man, she could care less. Once she got her powers back, she’d figure out the next move.
First, she’d approach him, preferably get taken in, then find a way to end it all beside him.
At first, she had eyed Lin Nan’s roommates, but unfortunately, the sharpest thing in their dorm was an art kn*fe, and ever since her last jump, they’ve been super cautious, locking both front and back doors tight.
Lilith strutted with feline elegance, purring and playing adorable while heading towards the shop owner.

“Meow~”
The middle-aged man finally noticed the little cat approaching him and, sensing its softness, curiously stepped out from behind the counter. “What’s up?”
Lilith suddenly froze, her eyes fixated on the kn*fe in the man’s hand.
Oh no! Please don’t tell me this is a cat meat place!
Stay calm, stay calm…
