I Don’t Want to Be Turned into a Girl by Magic – Chapter 256

260. Lin Nan’s Controlling Nature【2/122】

==============================

Lin Nan jolted awake, her eyes wide and red as she stared into the pitch-black room, wiping away tears from her cheeks.

Wait a minute, they only became a couple with Chen Yao yesterday—why was she breaking up with him in her dream?

And crying like a total idiot, no less.

Rolling over, she caught a glimpse of Chen Yao sleeping on the floor, her overwhelming mood swings making her feel even more downcast.

Chen Yao used to be her best friend; back then, she worried about the day they’d part ways but didn’t dwell too much on it. After all, isn’t it said that no feast lasts forever?

But now, Chen Yao was her boyfriend…

If she had known, she would’ve just stayed friends. Being buddies was not so bad after all.

As Lin Nan’s emotions settled down in the late night, she began to regret her impulsive decision from earlier that day.

She should’ve asked Chen Yao how he really felt about her.

If Chen Yao was just looking for a fling during college, she definitely wasn’t going to accept that… Even though she couldn’t currently accept marriage with any guy, if it were Chen Yao, she might consider it.

Yeah, if it were that Platonic kind of marriage without any physical discussions, Chen Yao would be the perfect candidate!

Lin Nan chuckled at her own naivety, recalling that she had once been a guy and understood that hot-blooded men would never give up their lovely wives.

Her laughter woke Chen Yao, who opened his eyes just in time to meet Lin Nan’s gaze. They both quickly turned their heads away in unison.

“What time is it?” Chen Yao yawned, grabbing his phone from the bedside. “It’s only five. Why aren’t you sleeping longer?”

“Nightmare woke me up,” Lin Nan said, propping her head up with one hand.

“You have nightmares every day,” he stretched lazily and hurried off to the bathroom.

When he returned, he noticed Lin Nan still staring at him, her eyes revealing a hint of worry.

He vaguely guessed what her nightmare was about. “Was it about me?”

“Yeah.”

Lin Nan avoided his gaze and fiddled with her unlocked phone.

Chen Yao sat at the edge of the bed, yawning once more before asking, “You’re not afraid it was a breakup dream, are you?”

His words struck her with surprise.

“After knowing you for so long, it’d be weird if I couldn’t guess,” Chen Yao said, scratching his head. “That’s easy to guess, but I’m still lost trying to figure out what you’re really thinking.”

Since Lin Nan became a girl, her mindset and thought processes had shifted, rendering Chen Yao’s years of experience with her practically useless.

She propped herself up, leaning against the bed, and tilted her head slightly, asking, “So do you think we’ll break up in the future?”

“Why worry about that now that we’ve just started dating?” Chen Yao mumbled. In his mind, it felt like their relationship was still treading water—just with a new title. “Besides, since I’ve known you for so many years, if we break up, I bet you’ll be the one to say it first.”

“Impossible.”

“Especially when you’re having a meltdown,” Chen Yao laughed suddenly. “You think if I broke up with you, my mom would k*ll me?”

Lin Nan’s eyes lit up at the mention of Auntie.

She had already taken Auntie’s acceptance for granted—if Chen Yao dared to mess around, he’d better be ready to run away from home!

Feeling reassured, she felt smug, turning to Chen Yao and bragging, “Well, looks like you’re in trouble. Uncle and Auntie are on my side! My mom would definitely not take your side!”

“What Auntie and Uncle? You’ll have to call them Mom and Dad once we get married in a few years,” Chen Yao teased.

Lin Nan instantly shrank her neck, still very much opposed to the idea of marriage.

After all, marriage meant no more escaping physical discussions with Chen Yao, and she still had serious mental barriers about that.

“Are you having breakfast or what? I can fry you some eggs and bacon to make a sandwich?” Chen Yao, noticing Lin Nan’s expression, understood that their relationship wasn’t moving towards home plate anytime soon. He temporarily shelved his male instincts and changed the topic. “I might not be able to cook, but frying an egg is a piece of cake!”

“Just remember to turn on the exhaust fan and don’t use too much oil,” Lin Nan instructed.

“Got it.”

Yawning, he left the room.

Lin Nan comfortably lay back on the bed, and the thought of three people standing behind her while Chen Yao was left deflated and bullied made her chuckle to herself.

In the future, let alone trying to flirt with other girls, even if he stopped liking her and wanted to break up, it would probably be a monumental challenge.

“After all, this is your own mess; it’s not my problem,” she muttered as she got out of bed and sat at the computer, happily clearing out all of Chen Yao’s sketchy downloads, including his browser bookmarks.

And then there was the phone.

Lin Nan grabbed Chen Yao’s phone, which he had left on the desk, only to realize she didn’t know the password or fingerprint.

Just then, Chen Yao walked in with a sandwich and saw Lin Nan glaring at him, puffing her cheeks like a pufferfish.

“What did I do?” He took a cautious step back. “Did I offend you just by breathing?”

“I’m not that unreasonable!” Lin Nan handed the phone to him. “Just register my fingerprint and link it to QQ.”

Chen Yao was taken aback by Lin Nan’s unexpected controlling nature but complied with her request like a good little soldier.

“Don’t worry, I definitely won’t snoop through your QQ messages; I just want to link it for fun since I see everyone else doing it,” Lin Nan said sheepishly.

She wasn’t the kind to invade people’s privacy, right?!

“Anyway, I don’t chat with girls,” Chen Yao mumbled while fiddling with the phone. “It’s usually just online gaming buddies—can’t even tell boy from girl half the time.”

After linking QQ and registering the fingerprint, Lin Nan completely forgot about her earlier words, snatching Chen Yao’s phone and launching an all-out investigation on any friend with even slightly female-sounding usernames.

Chen Yao didn’t seem angry; he just sat back, smiling as he watched Lin Nan go through the motions while occasionally reminding her, “That’s my mom’s QQ account; this one’s my cousin’s—we play King of Glory together sometimes.”

“This one is from someone I met online while playing that breakup kitchen game and Don’t Starve.”

Lin Nan shot him a suspicious look.

“The username and avatar are female, but he sounds like a guy—might be a creep,” Chen Yao rushed to clarify.

“I wasn’t even asking you,” Lin Nan feigned indifference but pressed, “Why are you playing breakup kitchen with another guy?”

“Because you didn’t buy the game!”

She kept scrolling through his recent chat history, emphasizing, “Why are you so nervous? I’m just having a look.”

Trust you? Yeah, right!

Although Lin Nan had never displayed her possessiveness before, Chen Yao wasn’t foolish; he knew how to navigate his way around this situation.

As Lin Nan reached the bottom of the recent chat history, Chen Yao hurriedly said, “See? Other than my mom and cousin, they’re all guys, right?”

“Yeah.”

Lin Nan clicked on one of the suspiciously female usernames and glanced through the chat, finally satisfied with a nod.
