301. Lilith
==============================
Lin Nan and Kang De exchanged bewildered glances, then simultaneously turned to stare at the struggling Cola, who was being held by the scruff of its neck, flailing its legs in mid-air in a state of utter confusion.
Logically speaking, only Lin Nan, Kang De, and Li Na had magical powers in this world.
Lin Nan inherited them from Lilith, the otherworldly visitor.
So why on earth does her pet cat also possess magic?
“Could it be that it’s been around me for too long?” Lin Nan asked in perplexity.
Her son shook his head. No way that could be it.
Is Cola also an otherworldly being? If that were the case, Li Na would definitely have recognized that this cat was anything but ordinary when it jumped off the building, right?
Lin Nan was utterly lost in thought. Cola finally stopped struggling, suddenly realizing it may have been outed.
If it had known that collecting Lin Nan’s magic— which it cached up to swap bodies with— would reveal its true identity just by having close contact with its ‘son’… well, that was a surprising twist.
“Could it possibly be Lilith?” Lin Nan suddenly recalled the lost soul, but when she last saw Li Na, the girl had claimed she had found Lilith.
What on earth is going on?
Just as she was mulling over this mystery, there was a sudden knock on the door. Her son, planning to make a run for it, abruptly froze and swung the door open without Lin Nan’s consent.
Standing outside was Li Na, all smiles.
Lin Nan glanced from Li Na to her son. Even though both were from other worlds and had that whole common ground thing going on, one was the son of a witch, and the other was a saintess. Why hadn’t they shown even the slightest acknowledgment upon meeting?
She scratched her head, feeling a tad overwhelmed.
“Cola is Lilith,” Li Na stated bluntly as she stepped into the room.
“Ah?”
Lin Nan’s already confused mind went completely blank.
“Although I don’t quite understand it myself, it seems that when you fully transformed into a girl, Lilith jumped into Cola’s body,” Li Na said, her eyes sparkled as she looked at the black cat in Kang De’s hands. “If it weren’t for an accident, I might never have figured it out.”
Cola was flabbergasted; it had thought it was in the clear.
It glanced suddenly at the sleeping Sprite, still curled up in the corner.
There had been suspicions that Sprite was either Li Na or her spy, and although it had played dumb for a month, it hadn’t noticed anything odd, so it gradually let its guard down.
“She’s my doppelgänger.” Li Na waved her hand, and the still-sleeping Sprite immediately jumped up, meowing and bounding into Li Na’s arms. “You wouldn’t understand magic, just treat her like another version of me.”
Lin Nan nodded, still dazed.
Then she glanced at her son, who had been calling her “Mom” for months, and at Cola in his grip.
Wait, does that mean the soul inside Cola is Lilith? And Sprite is like Li Na’s other body?
Having read her fair share of novels, after a brief frown, Lin Nan eventually nodded with a blank expression.
Her son clearly looked even more confused— after all, he had been calling Lin Nan “Mom” for a while now, and while he wasn’t exactly a lapdog, he did keep a close eye on her every move.
Now he was being told his mother is actually a cat.
“Kang De, let’s go,” Li Na said with a mischievous grin. “I’ve prepared a new body for your mom; she’s going to be so happy!”
“Meow! Meow!” Cola suddenly caught on, starting to thrash wildly and yelling, “Get lost! Perverted yuri! Let me go! You ungrateful child!”
However, no one could understand its cries. They just knew it seemed less than enthusiastic about its fate.
Lin Nan was still a bit dazed, watching them take Cola away and the door close, hearing the increasingly distant screeches of the cat. A chill ran down her spine.
Lilith won’t come back and k*ll me, will she?
Back when she didn’t know Cola was Lilith, she had forced it to eat cat food, even tried to neuter it, and kicked it around for fun, not to mention having taken a few ‘samples’…
Lin Nan’s face turned pale.
Oh no, I’m doomed.
Should I write a will or something?
Just then, the door swung open again. Scared senseless as it was, Lin Nan jumped from her chair at the noise.
“Did I just see Li Na carrying Cola and Sprite out?” Chen Yao walked in, loaded with bags, but upon seeing Lin Nan’s terrified expression, his curiosity deepened. “What’s wrong with you?”
“Nothing…” Lin Nan let out a sigh of relief seeing Chen Yao, collapsing onto the sofa and randomly making up an excuse, “Li Na said she likes these two cats and wants to keep them for a while. I’m a bit lazy to take care of them anyway and my place is full of fur.”
“Never saw you take care of them,” Chen Yao set down a bag on the coffee table, casually tossing his luggage on the TV stand, then sat beside Lin Nan. “Haven’t had lunch yet, right? I got you pizza.”
“Haven’t eaten…”
After the initial panic, the scent of the fresh-baked pizza wafting into her nostrils made Lin Nan acutely aware of her hunger.
With a resigned sigh, she thought it seemed like nothing good had happened ever since she got to school.
The pizza wasn’t very big, only seven inches, but enough for Lin Nan to fill herself up, while Chen Yao just sat beside her, head resting on one hand, watching her munch on the whole slice like a hamster.
Though her eating habits were a bit messy, they came across as quite adorable in Lin Nan.
Lin Nan usually had normal dining etiquette, at least during the time she stayed at Chen Yao’s place, she was greedy but still chewed each bite thoroughly.
“Don’t choke on it,” Chen Yao placed the half-empty bottle of cola next to Lin Nan.
“I know, I’m just so hungry; this pizza is really good!” Lin Nan’s spirits lifted at the sight of food. The troubles of the previous moments were temporarily forgotten, and she started to sway slightly, the shadows in her heart dissipating.
“Told you not to skip meals,” he chuckled, watching her eat with glee, noticing her eyes sparkle with joy as she devoured the slice. “You seem troubled today?”
Feeling good, Lin Nan nodded without hesitation, “Today, Zheng Qian asked me whether to stay in this class or join the next one.”
“I thought, whether I stick my neck out or don’t, it’s still a kn*fe. Our two classes often have lessons together; switching doesn’t make much difference.”
Chen Yao nodded, that was true.
“But if I stay in my own class… it just feels so embarrassing.”
“Honestly, I think you should just let Zheng Qian clarify your situation to the class…”
Before Chen Yao could finish his suggestion, Lin Nan was already shaking her head in rejection, “No way! That would be even more embarrassing!”
“But if you don’t clarify, they’ll think I’m a weirdo with this look… There have been so many people turning to stare at me in class these days…”
Suddenly, Lin Nan felt the pizza lost its appeal. She gloomily put aside the half-eaten slice, grumbling, “Why bring up unhappy stuff when eating? I’ve lost my appetite…”
