308. Transfer Student 【20/122】
==============================
Thursday afternoon rolls around, and it’s lecture time.
Today, they’re chatting about post-graduation career planning, which means the entire department decided to invade one giant classroom, packed with hundreds of students, all buzzing like a swarm of bees.
Usually, classes fit into a cozy little room for about a hundred, but today, everyone squeezed into the shining star of lecture halls— the biggest one in the school, made for lectures, award ceremonies, and job fairs.
Lin Nan, however, had no career plans whatsoever. In fact, she had absolutely no clue what she wanted to do with her life.
Sure, she could ace her exams, and last semester’s knowledge was magically imprinted in her brain, but apparently, that didn’t translate into job skills.
Last night, Lin Nan was up all night trying to conjure a new spell— something that would give her a smidgen of combat power to take on Lilith, now without any magical tricks and standing at a solid 1.7 meters.
But many of the spells had requirements that seemed to laugh in her face, so she never could muster the courage to give them a go.
As she followed Chen Yao into the giant lecture hall, she was met with the chaos of chattering students— it was enough to make anyone lose their lunch.
Looking around, Lin Nan saw students squished in like sardines, wandering around and having loud conversations— it was practically a noise festival.
Zheng Qian stood at the front, amiably chatting with Lin Kexin, whom he had met yesterday. Spotting Lin Nan, he waved like he had just spotted a long-lost friend.
“Zheng Qian’s calling me, you find a seat first.”
“Okay!”
Lin Nan hurried over to Zheng Qian, looking up at him like a puppy.
“Hey, here’s your paperwork,” he said, handing her a file folder from the podium, “Everyone in class knows your situation, so I won’t spill the beans in front of everyone, alright?”
“Sure,” Lin Nan nodded, feeling a tad embarrassed.
“Rough luck for you!” Zheng Qian shrugged, not sure if he meant her becoming a girl or if he was just upset that she’d turned him into a snack.
Lin Kexin stood nearby, grinning like a Cheshire cat, enjoying the banter.
“Kexin, you’re the vice monitor—make sure to take good care of Lin Nan!” Zheng Qian turned to her, seriousness in his tone.
“I got it!” she nodded vigorously.
“By the way, I heard a new transfer student joined the class next door today, pretty good-looking,” Zheng Qian suddenly remembered to mention.
Lin Kexin froze. Transfer students in their second year of college? What sorcery was this?
“Her name is Li Lisi, and she looks gorgeous in the photos. I bet she’ll be in the top three school beauties this year! She even kind of looks like Lin Nan,” Zheng Qian said with a mischievous grin, “Could she be your sister?”
“Oh please, what a weird name!” Lin Kexin retorted.
But Lin Nan suddenly put two and two together—Li Na must have worked some magic to convince the school to let Lilith in. Thank the universe she was in the neighboring class; if she were in Lin Nan’s class, it’d be straight-up sabotage and backstabbing from then on!
That name similarity was indeed strange; Li Na’s real name was Lina, which was whatever, but changing Lilith to Li Lisi just sounded downright awkward.
She sighed, “I know her, but we’re not related.”
“Oh really? Class is about to start; better get back,” Zheng Qian waved them off.
In the massive lecture hall, Lin Nan searched the room fervently until she spotted Chen Yao and plopped down beside him, glancing at the students in their row.
This row could fit about ten people, and Lin Nan and her dorm-mates occupied their own little space. The further students seemed vaguely familiar, with a few classmates she could name on sight.
“Why did Zheng Qian call you over?” Chen Yao asked nervously.
Last semester, Chen Yao had spotted Zheng Qian’s interest in Lin Nan. Though he was busy finding a seat, his eye stayed glued to the podium, ready to pay a visit if Zheng Qian tried anything sneaky.
But Zheng Qian and Lin Nan were just having a casual chat, a few sentences exchanged.
“He just gave me the paperwork,” Lin Nan handed the folder to Chen Yao, “He also mentioned a new transfer student in the class next door. The one we saw last night!”
“Which one?”
“That tall girl with long legs and no curves.”
Suddenly, Chen Yao’s mind conjured an image of those long legs that were even more statuesque than Lin Nan’s.
That girl’s body proportion was about the same as Lin Nan’s, but being taller made all the difference.
While he was reminiscing about those legs, an unexpected sharp pain hit his side. He whipped around to see Lin Nan grinning mischievously.
“Remembered her, huh? So flat!” Chen Yao exclaimed, launching into a tirade about Lilith, “She looks a few years older, and her chest is flatter than most guys! What a disgrace to women!”
“Hmm!”
Lin Nan decided to spare Chen Yao this time.
Having once been a guy herself, she knew exactly what was usually on a male’s mind, especially when it came to women.
But a normal guy should have no interest in such a flat body, unless he had a thing for lolis, and that’s just illegal.
Gradually the room quieted down as the lecturer for the career planning class approached the podium, slightly leaning forward to speak into the microphone.
Lin Nan was totally uninterested in this class; after all, she had zero plans for her future.
There might have been some once upon a time, but since her life had been turned upside down by Lilith, she couldn’t see where she was headed anymore.
“All Lilith’s fault—wait, Li Lisi!” she muttered under her breath.
Chen Yao shot her a quirky glance; after spending so much time with Lin Nan, he had heard Lilith’s name several times and was starting to wonder if she was obsessed with some fantasy novel.
Right behind Lin Nan, Lilith, dressed like a typical student but with a stormy frown, picked up a textbook, ready to launch it at Lin Nan’s head, only to be stopped in her tracks by Li Na.
“Watch it! We’ve got to play by the rules in this world!” she pulled Lilith back down.
Lilith pouted, pointing at the back of Lin Nan’s head, “What’s it to me! She’s the one insulting me!”
“Besides! What rules do witches even follow?!”
“If not, tonight…” Li Na pulled out a giant sausage from her pocket, grinning like she was about to hand out treats.
Lilith immediately fell silent, her cheeks puffing out, looking all huffy but keeping her mouth shut.
Lin Nan mirrored the sulking motion— it’s contagious!
Once she got her magic back and returned to her old home, she’d haul you in to hang out with a pack of men!
“I’ll take you to my dorm at noon; you’ll be living next door to me, so make sure to get along with your roommate.” Li Na tapped Lilith lightly on the head with the sausage, “No fighting with them, and you definitely can’t mention your magic.”
“But I can’t even do magic…” Lilith rolled her eyes and suddenly put on a charming smile, “How about you lend me a bit?”
Then tonight, she’d charm a big dude to get back at Lin Nan! Sweet revenge!
“No way!”
“Ugh~ You claim to be my best friend since forever.”
