Chapter 331: Two Spells
Two girls with similar figures sat on a bench beside the school path.
Li Na chattered incessantly, pitching her two spells like a seasoned sales champion, claiming they were as unique as unicorns. Lin Nan smiled, nodding along as if she were a bobblehead doll.
“These two spells are low-level and totally under your control! They were personally developed by this saintess! Lilith guarantees they won’t fail!”
Lin Nan nodded. Although she hadn’t fully explored Lilith’s memories, she had already scanned over the spells Lilith could do, and indeed found nothing similar.
“The first spell is called the Holy Light Spell! It’s like giving your immune cells shiny armor and weapons to buff them up! In theory, it can wipe out any disease caused by viruses or bacteria! Isn’t that super powerful?”
“Yeah, super powerful!” Lin Nan nodded vigorously. “But what’s the catch?”
“High fever! But it’ll go away after a bit,” Li Na answered without hesitation.
High fever? Well, that seemed manageable.
She quickly changed the topic, eager to introduce the second spell: “The other one is… wait, let me think of a name.”
Frowning in deep concentration, she suddenly slapped her thigh: “Let’s call it Charm Sound!”
Lin Nan winced, rubbing her thigh. She suspected it might be bruised from that slap.
“So what’s the downside of this spell?”
Li Na hesitated for a moment, unsure: “It might make students like you?”
“But that’s fine! It’s not as charming as your other spells. It just gives a favorable impression! If students like their teacher, isn’t that great? Makes it easier to teach, right?” She smiled brightly.
That actually sounded fairly reasonable.
Lin Nan nodded again. If she had this spell, she could totally study for a teacher qualification certificate and become a teacher. With a bachelor’s degree, she could teach at an elementary school, right? Or even teach at a tutoring center? Considering the age gap, even if those little brats really did like her, what did it matter?
Who didn’t have a crush on a pretty teacher in their childhood?
Seeing that her persuasion was going smoothly, Li Na added more fuel to the fire: “Once you learn magic with me, none of your relatives will ever get sick again! You could earn over a hundred bucks an hour tutoring—much more than delivering takeout!”
She worked hard to convince Lin Nan: “I tutored last semester and got rave reviews! If I recommend you, those parents will definitely agree!”
Lin Nan was tempted, but a glance at the overly enthusiastic Li Na made her feel something was amiss.
“I’ll think about it.”
Why did it feel like Li Na was waiting for her to jump into a pit she’d dug?
“What’s there to think about?!”
Li Na was about to press her advantage when suddenly they heard Lilith calling from the direction of the classroom building: “We agreed to go to class together! You skipped again!”
They both looked up to see Lilith running towards them, holding a cola, huffing and puffing. Without the boost from magic, her physical fitness clearly wasn’t great.
So, the culprit behind her poor health was still Lilith. That burden was entirely on her shoulders!
“Enough talk! I need to find Lilith. You go think it over!” Li Na stood up and headed towards Lilith, mumbling quietly, “If Lilith’s here, I can’t convince her. She knows way too much; what if she interrupts…”
Lin Nan watched Li Na walk away, got up herself, and continued rubbing her potentially bruised thigh as she limped back towards her rental apartment.
What a stroke of bad luck!
Back at the apartment, Lin Nan hurried to check on Chen Yao in the bedroom and found him still deeply asleep.
Creeping inside, she sat on the edge of the bed and reached out to check his forehead with her hand.
He seemed a bit cooler than before she left for class.
With a heart full of concern, Lin Nan looked at Chen Yao. They’d only been living together for a week, and here he was, already down with a fever, dark circles under his eyes, looking more worn out than ever.
With a soft sigh, she bit her lip, ready to stand up, when she suddenly felt his hand clutching her wrist.
Looking down again, she saw Chen Yao had woken up.
“What time is it?” His voice was hoarse.
“Half past nine.” Lin Nan sat quietly at the bed’s edge, “Do you want some water?”
Chen Yao frowned and sat up against the headboard. He felt a bit stronger than yesterday but his head was still foggy.
After sleeping for over ten hours, his eyelids were still fighting a battle of their own, apparently not having gotten enough rest.
Seeing Lin Nan’s worried and pouty expression, he cracked a smile: “Why the long face? You look terrible.”
Reaching out, Chen Yao pinched her mouth corners gently, lifting them up: “Smile a bit, you look cuter when you smile.”
“You nutjob!” Lin Nan snapped, swatting his hands away in mock anger, “What do you want to eat? After eating, hurry and take your medicine!”
“What about eating you?”
Her face turned beet red as she shot him a d*ath glare: “Are you out of your mind from the fever?”
But soon, Lin Nan forgot his comment and leaned forward to open the drawer, pulling out the medicine from the day before: “The hospital’s meds actually worked pretty well; you’ve cooled down quite a bit after just one day.”
“Fever’s not all bad; it means your immune system is fighting back.” After chatting a bit, Chen Yao stretched, feeling a bit more spirited.
Lin Nan caught that remark and suddenly asked, “I heard that the stronger the immune system, the higher the fever?”
“Sounds about right?” Chen Yao scratched his head. “I think there’s also something about how if your immunity is too strong, it could lead to allergies. And if someone is weak, an overly aggressive immune system might just take them out, right?”
“…”
So Li Na was totally tricking me! It’s a trap!
Lin Nan’s face darkened.
That Holy Light Spell, if used on someone weak, wouldn’t it just end up torching them with an aggressive immune response instead of curing anything?
But at least Chen Yao seemed to be doing okay for now.
Lin Nan went to the living room, poured him a cup of warm water, and grabbed some bread and milk to serve as breakfast.
“Make sure to take your medicine after eating, and don’t get out of bed,” she instructed.
“I’m not paralyzed…” Chen Yao grumbled. He glanced at Lin Nan’s worried expression, exasperated: “I told you, stop looking so gloomy! You’re not helping! I’m not dying; I feel better than I did in the morning. Why are you panicking?”
“I’m not!” Lin Nan countered without hesitation, “I’m just annoyed that you always steal my blankets when we sleep!”
“Um, isn’t it you who steals the blankets?”
Otherwise, why would I be taking medicine and still feeling worse?!
“I don’t steal! Stop making stuff up!”
