337. Experiment
==============================
Lin Nan had never thought about marriage before.
Or rather, due to suddenly turning into a female, her future had become a big question mark.
What used to be a straight shot to the future had now turned pitch black after her transformation, leaving her to just take it one step at a time.
But now, out of nowhere, a scene of marrying Chen Yao popped into her mind, and she couldn’t wait!
Aside from Chen Yao, she couldn’t imagine accepting any other male to marry her.
She looked at herself in the mirror, feeling a pure joy she hadn’t experienced in a long time.
It was like the joy of finally beating a tough level in that old Xixia game, or the first time she got to eat a long-awaited delicious snack.
She smiled, her eyes shimmering, and couldn’t help but strike various poses.
This time, Li Na didn’t need to remind her at all; she just kept circling around Lin Nan snapping pictures.
“What a pity there are no bracelets or rings, it’d look so much better with those,” Li Na said, finishing a shot and grinning, “Do you like this outfit?”
Lin Nan nodded vigorously, her sports shoes peeking out from under her long dress, instantly wrecking the chic vibe they’d just built.
“Then help me take some more! I even bought a Cosplay outfit of an 80s magical girl!”
“After you’ve taken all my photos, I’ll give you this outfit, including that hairpin on your head.”
Lilith, who was nearby, chortled with a hint of jealousy, “It’s only a smidgen worse than mine; still not as pretty as me. You’d be better off giving it to me!”
Lin Nan’s eyes lit up as she gazed at the shiny gem on the hairpin, looking at Li Na with eager anticipation.
“Ten bucks each from a street shop—three for ten!”
“I thought it was a real diamond…”
“But your outfit costs thousands! So take some good shots! After you’ve done that, the outfit’s all yours, and then you can start learning magic!”
Li Na’s wardrobe was practically a fashion wonderland.
From sailor suits to Lolita dresses, from elegant Hanfu to all kinds of cosplay outfits—all stuffed into that closet. Dozens of outfits, ranging from Earth normal wear to movie-inspired costumes, Western-style to Chinese-style, all crammed inside.
Some outfits still made her blush, but Lin Nan was so deep in the joy of wearing a high-priced outfit that the embarrassment was easily squashed.
You have to admit, good looks and a proportionate figure make anything look good.
Yep, she was definitely talking about herself.
The whole afternoon, Lin Nan started changing clothes and taking pictures at one o’clock, and from being embarrassed at first, she began to get used to it. She was even starting to feel like she was posing for a fashion catalog!
Maybe one day I could become a TB model?
By 5 PM, they finally finished all the photos.
Lin Nan’s stamina had always been low, and she just plopped down on the bed, utterly drained.
Lilith, on the other hand, had spent the afternoon chasing the cat and getting a beating. Although she’d lost her magic, her mouth was still sharp as ever, continuously critiquing Lin Nan while also taking hits.
A few hours in, even she was out of breath, sprawled out beside Lin Nan and grumbling, “How embarrassing! At least you inherited my magic, and you’re already flat out after just a few hours!”
“Why don’t you just give me back all your magic then? It’s a waste when you can’t even use it properly! It’s been half a year, and you’ve barely tapped into it!”
“Just turning on the light at home, and you act like you need a nuclear power plant just for yourself! What a waste!”
What a bizarre metaphor?
Lin Nan turned her head, trying to ignore her.
“Where’s the magic theory I gave you at the start? Look over it, and once you’re ready, I can start teaching you magic,” Li Na walked over to the bed, noticed some stacks of paper on the bedside, and hurriedly shoved them into Lin Nan’s hands before sitting down at the computer to edit the pictures.
After all, they weren’t in a professional studio—the lighting issues aside, the background had to be swapped too.
Lin Nan grabbed the magic theory reluctantly, glancing over while occasionally peeking at Li Na.
This girl hadn’t been on Earth for long, yet somehow she seemed to know a bit about everything—she must have been miles ahead of Lilith, who had been on Earth for much longer.
The magic was learned quickly.
It was only basic magic, and with Lin Nan’s long experience in using magic and viewing Lilith’s memories, she had already developed some understanding of magic, making it easier to learn.
A healing spell that could activate the immune system and protect the body—too bad it couldn’t distinguish friend from foe or control white bl**d cells, but then again, for a low-level spell, it could only do so much.
A sound spell that made people involuntarily remember conversations; mainly used to help students during lessons so they could easily recall homework—Li Na had used something similar when teaching her.
As for whether they actually did their homework afterward, that was another story; understanding it was an entirely different matter.
“Done! I’ve learned it all!” Lin Nan exclaimed as she jumped off the bed.
Then without hesitation, she aimed a Holy Light Spell at Lilith, dramatically shouting, “The Holy Light shall purge you!”
Lilith blinked in confusion as she felt her body heating up, her head getting dizzy, and a fever creeping in.
“I’m not sick!” she weakly tossed a pillow at Lin Nan.
“I’m just experimenting!” Lin Nan replied, bold as ever. “And Li Na’s right here, if you d*e, we can just swap your body right back!”
Li Na’s eyes sparkled: “That’s a funny line! I’m writing that down; is it from Hearthstone?”
Lilith’s face flushed, lying on the bed with her eyes getting heavy. As the immune response escalated, it started to overburden her body, and she simply passed out.
About half an hour later, the immune system, confused, realized there weren’t really any enemies to purge in this body, and the magical stimulation was decreasing.
Lilith had been lying there for half an hour while Lin Nan and Li Na watched her like hawks.
Then suddenly, Li Na slapped Lin Nan on the head, causing her to instinctively jump back, bewildered.
“Are you okay?” she eagerly asked Lilith, “What’s it like?”
“Feels like I’m dying!” Lilith shot a weak glare at Lin Nan.
Li Na sat up straight, pondering for a moment with a furrowed brow, “This might still be a bit dangerous.”
“Really?”
Lin Nan thought her experiment had gone splendidly, but it seemed she had somehow learned a magic that could potentially harm.
“Lilith isn’t sick, so the effects seem stable. If she had been sick, who knows what would have happened.”
She muttered and ran to the desk to start modifying the magic. After a while, she turned back to Lin Nan, asking, “How’s Chen Yao’s illness?”
“Getting worse.”
“Perfect, we can use him as a test subject.”
“???”
