370. I’m Sexually Indifferent!
==============================
The next day, Lin Nan yawned her way out of the bedroom.
It was already seven-thirty in the morning, a time when one would typically grab a tasty street breakfast and sprint to class.
But yesterday afternoon, she had slept way too long, and it wasn’t until three or four in the morning that she managed to doze off, leaving her utterly exhausted.
Glancing over at Chen Yao, who was napping on the sofa, Lin Nan approached and gently shook his shoulder. “Time to wake up for class!”
Getting closer, she noted the deepening dark circles under his eyes and felt a little tug at her heartstrings. Biting her lip, she asked, “How about skipping class today and catching some Z’s instead?”
After accidentally being knocked over in the shower yesterday evening and realizing she’d unlocked a magical power, she still found herself embarrassingly recalling that moment when she saw Chen Yao. Her voice softened as she spoke, a mixture of shyness and concern.
She nudged Chen Yao a few more times before nervously sitting down beside him, her mind racing with bizarre thoughts.
Chen Yao woke up, stretching like a lazy cat, feeling the aches in his back. Catching sight of Lin Nan with a tinge of red in her cheeks made him think she looked much cuter than usual.
“No worries, I just got back,” he casually poured himself a glass of water.
“What do you mean you just got back?” Lin Nan frowned. “Where were you last night?”
Chen Yao sheepishly confessed, “The sofa wasn’t comfortable, so I went back to the dorm.”
He thought about the cozy dorm environment and couldn’t help but exclaim, “Man, the dorm is so comfy. Junhui and the gang blast the AC this early daily, and you can sleep alone without being disturbed…”
“Then go stay there!” Lin Nan shot back.
“I think it’s more important to be here with you,” Chen Yao suddenly remembered his survival instinct, leaning in with a goofy grin, trying to wrap his arms around Lin Nan’s waist.
But Lin Nan skillfully dodged him, glancing at her phone. “It’s almost eight; get ready for class.”
“But the first class is canceled…”
“Really?” Lin Nan opened the class group chat and saw that the class monitor had sent out a notification about the teacher skipping class a half-hour ago.
This wasn’t surprising; university professors had their own affairs, after all, but any missed classes usually meant make-up sessions that happened on weekends.
Just as she stood up, she plopped back down on the sofa.
“Make-up classes on Saturday…,” Lin Nan sighed, “I promised Li Na I’d go meet about tutoring this Saturday.”
“Tutoring?!” Chen Yao was completely taken aback.
His girlfriend didn’t strike him as the type who would make a good tutor.
“I’ve been reviewing high school material, okay?” Lin Nan pulled up her high school textbook on her phone. “I heard from Li Na that the student I’d be tutoring is a freshman who struggles with English.”
English was Lin Nan’s forte—not because she would score high, but simply because the high school curriculum was passable if you could recite the material.
Plus, Li Na had also taught her another spell, dubbed “Charm Sound,” which essentially made her words magically memorable to her listeners.
That meant with a flick of magic, she could recite the words and her student would easily memorize every English phrase.
“You’re not exactly a genius in English, either,” Chen Yao commented.
“Mainly because my memory is awful, ugh,” Lin Nan pouted. She had always struggled to retain information.
This made reciting Chinese and English a monumental task. Back when they had to memorize “Zhuge Liang’s Memorial,” Chen Yao had it down pat in a week while Lin Nan ended up in the teacher’s office, reciting all morning.
Since she had no class that morning, Lin Nan decided to hit the snooze button again.
But as soon as she stepped into the bedroom, Chen Yao trotted in after her like a lost puppy.
She recalled the events from last night, her cheeks flushing again, yet she feigned indifference as she lay on the bed.
Chen Yao stole a glance at the glass-partitioned bathroom, thinking the landlord certainly knew how to set the stage for some romantic tension.
By the time he washed his face and plopped onto the bed, he found Lin Nan turned away, lying on her side facing the wall, not making a sound.
“Did you fall asleep that quickly?” Chen Yao mumbled as he lay down, wrapping his arms around Lin Nan from behind.
Lin Nan kept her eyes tightly shut, feeling the warmth of Chen Yao around her waist, her body subtly quivering.
Even though they had shared many intimate moments, she still felt the tension rising, curling her toes and biting her lip as she felt him pressed against her back.
Her heart raced, and her skin flushed under his embrace.
His hand was being a bit too bold, sending her into a flurry of confusion.
“Going to sleep now…” she pretended to wake up, pushing his hand away.
“What, no morning fun?”
Chen Yao’s husky voice whispered in her ear, his breath teasingly tickling her earlobe, making her cheeks redden.
His breath had a peculiar, alluring scent that made her heart race even faster.
Lin Nan squirmed away from Chen Yao, a hint of annoyance in her tone. “Go buy me breakfast! And make sure to score some duel points after eating!”
“You’re really putting on an act here…”
“I’m just not in the mood!” Lin Nan declared shamelessly. “I’m sexually indifferent!”
Chen Yao rolled over, avoiding her like she was a hot potato, lying flat on his back and muttering, “I still don’t understand why, when I did your laundry last time, your underwear was so…”
Before he could finish, Lin Nan shot up in fury, grabbing the blanket and smothering his head with it. Her face was so red it felt like it could emit steam, and she warned him with a fierce tone, “Say one more word and I’ll smother you for good!”
“Who told you to do my laundry? I can wash it myself!” She was so miffed that she kicked Chen Yao right off the bed.
He tumbled onto the floor and shamelessly crawled back onto the bed, grinning like a Cheshire cat. “Not saying a word. I promise!”
“You’re nuts!” Lin Nan used her calming spell to settle her emotions, then switched to wise sage mode.
“Good thing I have time; want me to grab you some rose cakes?”
Lin Nan looked up in surprise. “They sell those here?”
“Yesterday you wanted some, so I checked online. Turns out there’s a bakery nearby that sells rose cakes.” Chen Yao realized he needed to play nice or risk three days of watery porridge from Lin Nan, so he lowered his tone. “I remember you like those flaky pancakes and oyster pancakes, right? Let me see if I can find those for you too.”
“I only like the ones from Rongcheng… the others just don’t taste right.”
“No problem! I’ll look up how to make them online when I have a chance.”
With that, Chen Yao dashed out the door, afraid Lin Nan might change her mind again.
