382. What is Love?

Lilith really is a party-loving witch.
Li Na has only been missing for a day, and she’s already getting ready for another night out.
Though she claims she’s not involved with that guy, when Lin Nan tried to recall her memories, there was no way she could believe that.
Poor Li Na, so green with envy.
When the afternoon school bells rang, Lin Nan reached the exit of the teaching building and noticed Lilith standing quietly in the corner, waiting for her.
“Let’s go. I’ll treat you to dinner these days,” Lin Nan said as she approached, her eyes filled with a hint of disdain.
Chen Yao, trailing behind Lin Nan with a face full of ennui, couldn’t understand why Lin Nan felt the need to meddle.
Usually, the moment Lin Nan and Lilith met, it was a showdown of squabbles and burns. But now, they were apparently helping each other out?
And judging from this situation, it looked like Lilith was moving in, huh?
“What are we having for lunch today?” Lilith asked, cradling a cat, completely unfazed by the idea of freeloading, and boldly proclaimed her demands, “I want steak, and Cola wants chicken breast.”
“Cola gets such good treatment?”
“Of course! That’s why I take good care of it! You only know how to feed it cat food! Do you know how horrible cat food tastes?!” Lilith huffed, turning her head, suddenly recalling her miserable past as a cat. Any budding affection she had for Lin Nan quickly disappeared.
Chen Yao couldn’t help himself anymore and questioned, “You’re not even a cat! How would you know if cats like it or not?”
“Dislike!” Lilith’s voice shot up, “Cats totally hate the taste of cat food! Plus, they’re always scared of being spayed! What’s wrong with eating something good?!”
Lin Nan nearly burst out laughing, while Chen Yao was still confused, trying to figure out why Lilith was so passionately advocating for cats.
She must be a little nutty, huh?
The sun was particularly harsh lately. Lin Nan stood in the shade of the teaching building, glanced at the glaring reflection on the ground, and pulled out a folding umbrella from her bag, offering it to Chen Yao.
Chen Yao opened the umbrella and happily huddled under it with Lin Nan, finally earning himself a chance to learn how to shield from the sun like those girls.
Watching this couple saunter together under the umbrella, Lilith suddenly understood why some people always utter strange phrases about roasting couples.
But she wasn’t too bothered; she yawned and leisurely followed behind them.
Arriving at the door of Lin Nan’s rental apartment, she instinctively glanced at the iron door next door, slightly tilted her head, considered for a moment, and went straight up to knock.
Lin Nan, hearing the knock, turned in surprise and scampered behind Lilith, ready to spectate.
The door opened, and Wang Rui appeared with a huge yawn, rubbing his eyes and grumbling, “Do you really think this is your home? Is freeloading for a whole day not enough?”
Lin Nan scanned Wang Rui’s dark-circled eyes, clicking her tongue in fascination.
Truly, Lilith must have worn him out last night? A perfectly good guy turned into this state overnight, while Lilith still looked as energetic as ever.
She imagined a story filled with drama, only to hear Wang Rui say,
“Freeloading is one thing, but stealing my bed? I was up all night studying, and you wouldn’t let me catch up on sleep during the day!” He opened his eyes a bit wider to see the girl next to Lilith, who was giving him a look that screamed, “sc*m.”
Living under the same roof as a party-loving witch and not doing anything? Is he even a man?
“I only came to tell you not to prepare lunch for me!” Lilith said, hands on her hips, very straightforward, “When Li Na comes back, I’ll pay you!”
Wang Rui, who had been grumbling just moments ago, suddenly froze.
“I can pay,” Lin Nan pulled out her phone and looked up, “Scan this QR code for me. How much did she eat yesterday?”
“I was supposed to take care of her for the next few days, but we had a little misunderstanding yesterday. My bad,” Lin Nan said, still looking at Wang Rui, who was now looking blankly back at her. “QR code, I’ll pay you.”
“No need, no need.” Wang Rui waved his hands in a hurry, glancing at the two girls outside.
Clearly, the shorter girl, who looked a bit younger and more delicate, seemed responsible for looking after Lilith.
Best if it’s not needed… Lin Nan didn’t hesitate to take her phone back, smiling, “Thanks for helping out yesterday.”
Lilith crossed her arms, nodding without saying thanks, “I’ll come find you to play sometime!”
“Don’t! If I fail my graduate exams, I’ll probably blame you,” Wang Rui blurted.
As soon as those words left his mouth, Lilith’s expression darkened instantly. Cursing under her breath, she turned and stormed off, “d*mn it! Why do I have to take responsibility for everything?! Just because I ate your food for a day?!”
“???”
Seeing Wang Rui’s bewildered expression, Lin Nan couldn’t help but chuckle as she nodded goodbye and hurried after Lilith into her rental apartment.
With no classes in the afternoon, Chen Yao tidied up a bit and got ready to head to the market to buy groceries for cooking.
Lilith, still sulking with displeasure, occupied the couch looking like a pufferfish.
“What’s up? Did you two argue?” Chen Yao asked curiously as Lin Nan entered the room.
“Nothing,” Lin Nan almost burst out laughing, “Hurry up and go buy groceries, I’m starving.”
“Steak! Chicken breast!”
Chen Yao glanced at Lilith, who looked as angry as a pufferfish, and turned to Lin Nan with questioning eyes. Seeing her nod, he headed out to buy groceries.
But why did it seem like Lilith’s angry face was nearly identical to Lin Nan’s?
These two girls must have been childhood friends who hung out together; otherwise, they wouldn’t show such remarkable similarities in their little quirks and moods.
As the door clicked shut, Lin Nan picked up the cat, Cola, wondering what it felt like to pet a cat again. She curiously peeked at Lilith beside her, silent for a moment before asking, “I feel like you kind of like him?”
“Like?” The anger in Lilith disappeared in an instant, replaced by a look of confusion, “What’s that?”
Despite her nightly escapades, it seemed she had no romantic history.
“Maybe it’s…,” Lin Nan frowned, her cheeks slightly flushed as she shared her feelings, “Feeling happy when you’re with someone, and your heart races a bit with just a touch…”
“Not at all.” Lilith shook her head without hesitation, “Wang Rui is ugly—definitely not my type. I can’t even be bothered with him.”
This was quite a statement…
But Lin Nan actually thought Wang Rui wasn’t half bad; he was just more on the refined side.
It seemed Lilith preferred someone a bit more rugged?
