### 387. Heartfelt Teaching
After two tutoring sessions, Lin Nan had honed her skills in slacking off.
Now, during class, she only used magic for about ten minutes, and spent the rest of the time goofing off and administering little quizzes.
She didn’t want to rush through all the high school vocabulary too quickly; after all, high school only had six semesters— if she taught a whole semester in one class, they’d only meet six times total!
Plus, teaching quickly meant using more magic, which meant hours of headaches. And she still had to go on a date with Chen Yao afterward! She didn’t want to end up looking like a lost puppy again!
It was a total loss for her either way.
“We still have half a class left; let’s do self-study.” Lin Nan leaned back in her chair and pulled out her phone.
“????” Pan Maoxin looked up, utterly confused. “Is there such a thing as self-study in tutoring?”
Since her body started to feminize, Lin Nan’s mouth had become rather loose. After a moment of silence, she seriously replied, “I can’t teach you forever. There’s a saying: it’s better to teach someone to fish than to just give them fish. You need to learn to study on your own and not rely on me!”
“I think you’re just being lazy and trying to take the easy way out.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, Pan Maoxin felt a chill behind him and immediately widened his eyes, shaking his head. “But I think you make a good point!”
“That’s right, self-study it is!” Lin Nan started scrolling through Douyin, casually assigning him a task. “For self-study, memorize twenty words this half class.”
Pan Maoxin nodded confidently. He had been able to memorize an entire semester’s worth of words in just two hours, so twenty words? Piece of cake!
He bowed his head and confidently began to chant the words. But just a few minutes in, he looked over at Lin Nan again. “Teacher, can you turn off Douyin?”
“I’m training your ability to concentrate amidst distractions,” Lin Nan said, sounding quite convincing.
Pan Maoxin had no comeback and could only obey, trying to continue his self-study.
But he was not the type to sit still. Otherwise, his previous grades wouldn’t have been mind-bogglingly terrible.
A few minutes later, he was fidgeting, feeling itchy somewhere. The sounds of Douyin were blasting in his ears, making it impossible to focus.
He tried hard to concentrate on the English words, but after about ten minutes, he realized he couldn’t remember a single word. Frustrated, he slammed his pen on the desk, turning around angrily to glare at Lin Nan.
Hearing the sound of the pen hitting the desk, Lin Nan looked up, smiling cheerfully at him.
“……”
Pan Maoxin felt deflated and receded back into his textbooks. But his mind wandered, completely ignoring the words in front of him.
He amused himself by playing with his fingers, twirling his pen, rubbing his ankles together, or stealing glances at Lin Nan.
This teacher was a bit too fierce, but she was definitely pretty.
If she wore a high school uniform, she could easily blend into the freshman class.
But she seemed only two years older than him, right?
Did she put on lipstick today?
He stole another look at Lin Nan; she was lounging in her chair, absorbed in Douyin or possibly off on Bilibili watching her cousin’s cross-dressing video.
If Teacher Lin didn’t go too hard on him, she looked like an ordinary, pretty and quiet girl.
“After you do well in your monthly exam, you should be really happy, right?” Lin Nan suddenly asked.
Pan Maoxin jerkily shifted his gaze back to the textbook, nodding his head.
“Then why aren’t you studying seriously?” Lin Nan asked, puzzled. “Seeing your grades getting better should make you happy, right?”
“Winning a game of LOL makes me happy, and it’s easy,” Pan Maoxin grumbled. “Plus, I’m just not cut out for studying; it’s been more than ten minutes, and I can’t remember a single word.”
Lin Nan nodded in sympathy, just as she was about to discuss the latest LOL match news, she suddenly remembered her teacher identity.
So she slapped the back of Pan Maoxin’s head, scolding, “At your young age, why aren’t you studying properly? What will you do in the future without an education?!”
Pan Maoxin grimaced, rubbing the back of his head, looking pitiful. “But my family is rich… I don’t gamble or do drugs; my family’s money is enough for me to live several lifetimes.”
Lin Nan was left speechless.
d*mn, how I envy this rich second-generation kid!
I want to just play around all my life without studying or working, living off my parents’ money!
Jealousy split her mind; after a moment of silence, she threatened fiercely, “You’ve never suffered, have you? I think it’s necessary for you to do some community service! Can you face the parents and the nation that raised you with thoughts like that?!”
“My dad is rich…”
“Money can’t fill the emptiness in your heart!”
“I think money could…” Before he could finish, he was horrified to feel that familiar force on his cheek.
His body felt lighter, his face suddenly numb, and his mind went blank.
By the time he realized what was happening, he was lying sideways on the ground, pain shooting through his body and his cheek tingling in a painful way.
“I think you’re right!” Pan Maoxin didn’t wait for Lin Nan to say anything and eagerly blurted, “I’m just the dregs of society! A slave to money! I will study hard and improve myself in the future!”
With those words, he was on the verge of tears from humiliation.
This fierce tigress!
“Where’s your Yunnan Baiyao? I don’t want you to have scars later.” Lin Nan was quite satisfied with his change of heart.
“It’s in the drawer; my dad said I’m definitely going to get hit…”
Lin Nan opened the desk drawer and indeed found the Yunnan Baiyao spray. She took it out and approached, extending her hand to pull Pan Maoxin up from the floor.
She settled him at the foot of the bed, bending down, suppressing her laughter as she applied the medicine, speaking gently but with a hint of sympathy, “Maoxin, this is tough love; who likes to hit their students? It hurts me as much as it hurts you!”
Pan Maoxin winced in pain but didn’t dare say much, nodding rapidly.
She rubbed the bruise on his cheek with her finger, trying to make the medicine work better, ignoring his agony. Lin Nan sighed, “You’re sixteen now; you should be more mature. Your rebellious phase should be over. How much gray hair has your dad gotten from you? He can’t control you for life…”
For some reason, even though he had just been hit, hearing Lin Nan’s heartfelt teachings made Pan Maoxin feel a warm rush in his chest—a wave of emotion called gratitude.
Am I really a masochist?
But he still had to argue a bit: “That was intentional; my dad dyed it that way, making it stylish and trendy to match the young people.”
Lin Nan almost couldn’t hold back another smack.
