454. Xiong Da’s Home

“Well, looks like we went the wrong way.”
As Tu Junhui turned around and awkwardly reported to the others, Chen Yao had the urge to kick him.
This guy is usually a clueless big guy, and Lin Nan never expected him to have the attribute of being directionally challenged.
He can’t even read a map!
“It should be across the street, right?” Tu Junhui pointed to the road, “But the problem is, I don’t see a pedestrian bridge anywhere. How do we get across?”
“Give me your phone.” Chen Yao said with a sullen face as he took Tu Junhui’s phone and examined it closely.
Though Chen Yao was also no master of directions, the phone’s map had a little triangle indicating their location. He twisted around a bit, confirmed where they were, and then looked up, declaring, “The subway station we need is across the street; there should be a pedestrian bridge not far behind us. But Junhui, you really took a wrong turn.”
“If I could see the bridge, that would be weird if we were going the right way!”
Chen Yao felt like this trip was deliberately making him lose his temper. On the bus, Tu Junhui had already been saying things to panic Lin Nan, and now he was leading everyone in circles.
“Maybe being directionally challenged is one of Tu Tu’s charming points?” Xiong Da commented with an impassive face.
Lin Nan continued to feign a somber demeanor, not responding, her eyes wandering curiously over the nearby buildings.
“Hey, there’s a Burger King over there!” Her eyes lit up as she spotted the Burger King logo on the mall’s outer wall. “I want Burger King!”
She had heard online that Burger King’s burgers were better than McDonald’s or KFC’s.
And they had limitless patties!
However, there was only one McDonald’s near the school, and her hometown didn’t even have a Burger King, leaving her drooling over the internet for ages without ever getting to taste it.
Chen Yao followed Lin Nan’s gaze, noticing her sparkling eyes, and reluctantly agreed, “Then let’s head to Burger King first; we still have time.”
“Alright.” Tu Junhui had no objections, feeling a little guilty for getting them lost earlier.
Besides, Zhongshan Street would be livelier at night; during the day, the sun was so intense that it made people feel dizzy. Forget shopping— even in an air-conditioned indoor place, it was hard to muster any energy.
The group set off toward the mall where Burger King was located. Lin Nan maintained a demeanor of disinterest, but her eyes betrayed her excitement.
Having known her for a while, Chen Yao quickly picked up that Lin Nan likely had put her earlier worries behind her.
So he leaned closer, grinning widely: “Whatever burger you want, I’ll buy it! And let’s not sleep in separate beds tonight?”
Lin Nan glanced up at him and decisively shook her head, “Separate beds! You sleep on the couch!”
“I can’t sleep in the living room without air conditioning.”
“Well… how about we rent a two-bedroom apartment?” Lin Nan suggested, “Or move the couch, lay down some bedding, and I’ll sleep in the living room?”
“Is that really necessary?” Chen Yao sulked.
“Very necessary!”
Chen Yao had been acting a bit cocky lately, so it was time for a wake-up call!
Ignoring his persistent whining, Lin Nan lowered her head to play with her phone.
Upon entering the Burger King outlet, Lin Nan noticed that these kinds of Western fast-food places didn’t differ much in their decor.
Perhaps due to the hot weather, there weren’t many customers inside. After a few minutes of queuing, they reached the counter to order.
Lin Nan ordered a Triple Whopper, having only heard about it online.
The air conditioning inside was blasting cold, and fearing the heat, Tu Junhui quickly found a spot near the air vent and plopped down, fanning himself and gasping for breath like he was about to strip down, but alas, this was a public place.
Xiong Da sat beside him with a poker face, shifting slightly to put some distance between himself and Tu Junhui.
This guy was radiating heat; even though he had just gotten off the bus, his shirt was already drenched in sweat, making him look downright greasy.
Chen Yao, thinking about dieting, ordered nothing and sat down behind Lin Nan, then gloomily decided to continue explaining the safety of using condoms.
However, after only starting to explain quietly, he heard Lin Nan ask in a sardonic tone:
“How do you know so much?”
“It’s all online!” Chen Yao immediately tried to clear himself, handing his phone to Lin Nan, “I’m just sharing what’s on the internet with you.”
Lin Nan glanced at it and snorted, “It’s all lies!”
“No way.”
“If you get sick and check online, wouldn’t that just get you ready for the worst?” Lin Nan twisted the facts, unwilling to admit that Chen Yao’s explanation could be correct.
Chen Yao felt like something was off.
Lin Nan wasn’t usually so unreasonable, but today she was unusually fixated on this topic, refusing to listen, as if she had some agenda.
He stared at Lin Nan’s face as she turned away nervously and calmly asked Tu Junhui, “What did you order?”
“Spicy Chicken Whopper with a cola and a sundae,” Tu Junhui mumbled without looking up, “I used to eat Burger King every day; I think this burger tastes the best.”
Tu Junhui was from a second-tier city in the central region, Lin Nan didn’t know much more, but since he could afford Burger King every day, his family must be quite well-off.
“Spicy? Then I’ll pass.” Lin Nan turned to Xiong Da, “What about you?”
“Same as yours.”
Xiong Da continued tapping on his phone, “I’ll pack it up; you guys eat here, I’ll head home for a bit.”
“Huh?”
“My house is nearby, just going home for a bit,” Xiong Da said, a hint of a smile breaking through his serious façade, “You guys want to come over?”
He continued jokingly, “My place is pretty big.”
Tu Junhui nodded without hesitation, while Lin Nan, who had been about to refuse, looked at Chen Yao to gauge his thoughts.
Chen Yao didn’t hesitate much either, “Alright, let’s go check out your place. I heard you have a cat?”
“Yeah.” Xiong Da nodded.
He was local, and when Lin Nan got Cola, she initially planned to keep it at his place during the winter and summer breaks, but plans changed, and she ended up taking Cola home with Chen Yao instead.
Since they decided to visit Xiong Da’s house, they also changed their orders to take away.
After waiting for about ten minutes inside the restaurant, the group stepped out, leaving the cool air of Burger King behind.
But Lin Nan didn’t expect that Xiong Da’s place was absurdly close.
Crossing the street and walking down an alley for about ten minutes, they arrived at an urban village.
This was a real urban village, located in the heart of the city, and who knew why it hadn’t been redeveloped until now.
