### 477. Li Na’s Task
“What? Your store is almost done with renovations? You want me to come over?”
Before Lin Qi could finish dinner with Lin Nan, she received a bewildering call from Li Na.
With her eyes wide open in surprise, she looked across the table at Lin Qi, shrugged her shoulders in helplessness, and said, “I might have to leave early. A friend wants me to help out.”
“Li Na is looking for you?” Chen Yao asked from beside her.
“Yeah, you can eat with my cousin while I make a quick trip. I should be back in time for your leftovers,” Lin Nan reluctantly stood up from her chair, her face full of displeasure. “Seriously, why now?”
With a sigh, she placed her large bottle of Cola on the table and hurried out of the restaurant’s booth.
Li Na was already outside, grinning from ear to ear as she waited. But as soon as they met, her smile evaporated, her face turning serious as she glared at Lin Nan.
Lin Nan pushed open the glass door, and as soon as she saw Li Na’s expression, beads of sweat began to form on her forehead.
Remembering what she did a few days ago, she felt guilty and tried to steer the conversation. “Didn’t you say your store was almost done? What do you need me for?”
“Hmph! Unspeakable!”
The two words made Lin Nan’s face turn a shade red. She stubbornly retorted, “That’s just couples’ supplies! It can enhance marital bliss! Perfect for you!”
Chen Yao tried to use the same excuse on her earlier.
Li Na seemed to ignore her explanation and turned on her heel, marching toward a nearby alley. Lin Nan quickly quickened her pace to follow, nervously asking, “You’re not planning to drag me to a secluded spot to m*rder me, are you?”
“I didn’t do anything that over the top. Lilith might even like it!”
“Hey, if I’m going to work as a waitress, you’re not going to make me wear a maid outfit, right?”
“I’m a serious person. I don’t wear that kind of clothing!”
After several more back-and-forth jabs, Lin Nan suddenly bumped into Li Na’s back, looking up to see her stop in her tracks and glance back at her.
Suddenly, Lin Nan felt even guiltier, cautiously asking, “Lilith doesn’t like it?”
That shouldn’t be the case, right?
The hands-on Lilith from that fantasy world seemed to enjoy such things. The ones we have here are electric, with heating, vibration, and swinging features. Chen Yao spent over two hundred on it!
She felt a pang of regret for giving it away. If only she could accept it… But dealing with Chen Yao was already exhausting enough.
Li Na watched her for a moment before saying slowly, “Couldn’t tell. You were a pretty cute boy back then, and now you’re into that…”
“That’s Chen Yao’s doing! It’s not my fault!” Lin Nan interrupted her, feeling an overwhelming rush of embarrassment coloring her cheeks.
“Pfft.” Li Na didn’t buy her excuse. She flicked her ponytail, hitting Lin Nan in the face with it, and continued deeper into the alley.
Lin Nan winced in pain and rubbed her aching cheek as she hurried after Li Na.
They walked until they reached a massive iron gate, where Li Na finally halted.
“This is it.” She opened the small door and stepped inside.
Lin Nan peeked through, her heart racing.
Could this be the place where Li Na planned to commit a m*rder? It certainly seemed discreet.
Once they walked through the small door into the courtyard, Lin Nan realized it was a somewhat closed-off bungalow area.
She’d seen such courtyard-style buildings in the countryside before, like little communities in the city, typically occupied by two generations from the same family.
Usually quite old, these buildings were modernized here, their exteriors adorned with tiles and freshly plastered with cement.
She also noticed a shady character in black lounging in the courtyard.
Hadn’t seen that guy in a while. Time to make some roasted duck jokes.
Lin Nan’s gaze wandered until she spotted Lilith calmly sitting on a small stool under a short tree, reading.
Clearly a charming flat-chested vixen who usually acted a little eccentric, but now, engrossed in her book, she exuded the kind of refined grace associated with a delicate lady.
When Lilith noticed her, she looked up and gave a slight smile, nodding in Lin Nan’s direction.
With a gentle chuckle, she seemed like a scholar from ancient times, surrounded by the aroma of books.
“You’re not Lilith, are you?” Lin Nan smirked, “Did you swap souls again?”
Lilith’s smile froze. Suddenly, she erupted, hurling the book at Lin Nan, who jumped back in shock, heart pounding. Lin Nan looked down at the small crater left in the cement where the book hit and felt her throat dry up.
Now that was more like the real Lilith.
But why does she have magic now?
“What are you doing?” Li Na poked her head out from a room, “Come here, I need to talk to you.”
“On my way!” Lin Nan dashed into the room in a panic, fearing that the newly powerful Lilith would tear her to shreds. “What’s up?”
Inside, the room had been freshly renovated, with wooden floors, white walls, and exquisite ancient-style furniture. The place seemed recently completed, with a thin layer of white dust still on the furniture and ground. Li Na was busy wiping down two wooden chairs with a cloth.
“Sit.” Li Na took a seat once the chair was clean, still wearing that trademark smile.
Lin Nan sat down awkwardly, feeling like Li Na was taking this way too seriously.
Uncomfortable, she asked first, “Where did you get all this money to rent such a large place? Are you planning to renovate the whole thing?”
“I swindled a scumbag out of over two hundred thousand.” Li Na casually explained before getting to the point, “You’re heading back next week, right?”
“How did you know?” Lin Nan was taken aback by the first question.
“Magic.”
Li Na’s casual acceptance of her spying didn’t phase Lin Nan. “What do you need?”
“Go to your grandfather’s back mountain and bring a few people back for me.”
“Huh?” Lin Nan’s confusion deepened. “Bring people from the back mountain?”
Suddenly, she recalled the numerous graves scattered across that mountain, a chill creeping up her spine. “Ghosts?”
This world can’t seriously have ghosts, can it?
With magic around, it seemed plausible.
My legs are trembling terribly.
Li Na didn’t answer her question. “Next Saturday at three a.m., just go to the largest grave on the back mountain, and bring three people back.”
At this, Lin Nan felt a wave of fear washing over her. She weakly protested, “But they can’t buy train tickets!”
“Oops, bought them already.” Li Na pulled out three tickets from her pocket and handed them to Lin Nan.
“But they can’t move during the day!”
“They can.” Li Na’s smile was becoming even more cheerful.
Lin Nan knew she couldn’t put this off any longer, so she chose to prioritize her own safety. “Is there any magic to ward off evil spirits? Or like a peach wood sword, black dog bl**d…?”
“None, what are you talking about?” Li Na’s eyebrows furrowed, not understanding Lin Nan’s words.
Although she had spent enough time on Earth, she certainly hadn’t memorized all the miscellaneous knowledge.
“I…” Lin Nan suddenly relaxed. “Fine.”
After all, Li Na wouldn’t just let her d*e; either the ghosts were harmless, or Li Na would sneak along.
With a heavy sigh, she left the courtyard.
Li Na waved her goodbye at the big iron gate. Once Lin Nan was out of sight, she turned back to Lilith in the courtyard, “Are you happy now?”
“Not happy at all! You scared her to d*ath!” Lilith snapped angrily.
Just as she finished, Li Na saw Lin Nan coming back, and she quickly shut her mouth, looking puzzled at Lin Nan.
“Um… The road was too winding. I forgot how to get out.”
