I Don’t Want to Be Turned into a Girl by Magic – Chapter 488

496. The Curious Baby

==============================

At noon, the yellow-haired guy, acting as the representative, followed Lin Nan to the street.

Even though they were from another world, three meals a day were still a must. In fact, as they practiced magic, they paid even more attention to eating—after all, this wasn’t some sort of celestial training.

With a big appetite and needing enough food for three people, Lin Nan didn’t want to make multiple trips, so she dragged the yellow-haired guy along.

He curiously looked around, noticing the bungalows on either side of the street—three stories tall, square, and ancient with zero aesthetic appeal.

Just as he was lamenting the abysmal taste of humanity in this world, he suddenly jumped in fright as a tricycle zoomed past.

“Whoa! Is that a car?!”

“Didn’t you all learn Chinese before coming here? Didn’t you pick up any common sense?” Lin Nan shot him a weird glance before explaining, “That’s a tricycle, just a private one, not exactly legal.”

“There’s a huge difference between what you read in books and what you see!” The yellow-haired guy exclaimed, inching closer to Lin Nan as if that would provide him with security.

“Where are we going?”

“To find a fast food restaurant and get you guys some lunch.” Lin Nan mumbled, “Honestly, I’d rather take that brown-haired guy out. Brown hair isn’t so eye-catching.”

But that brown-haired guy seemed a bit slow upstairs, constantly yelling about being hungry, even right after a meal.

“He’s about to level up, so he eats a lot.”

Clearly, he’s just a foodie—what kind of excuse is that?

Lin Nan thought to herself, but her mouth couldn’t help but complain, “Didn’t Jia Ming say there was a fast food place on this street? We’ve walked hundreds of meters and still haven’t seen one!”

Her grandfather’s place was on the edge of the town. If they couldn’t find a fast food restaurant here, they’d have to trek to the busier area from last night, which was further away.

Though they passed several small restaurants, the prices were steep, and Lin Nan wasn’t that kind-hearted.

She yawned; she’d only slept a few hours after a long night and had been woken up by her grandfather for lunch. After lunch, she intended to catch up on sleep, but the thought of the three “starving” visitors popped into her head.

Fearing they’d get too hungry and do something illegal, Lin Nan suppressively ventured out despite her fatigue.

“What’s this road made of?” the yellow-haired guy asked, looking down at the flat surface with wonder.

“Must be concrete?” Lin Nan had never thought about what the road beneath her feet was made of; she only knew of two types: concrete and asphalt.

Suddenly on high alert, she turned around to find the yellow-haired guy had stomped down, creating a deep pit in the road.

Lin Nan was dumbfounded, looking around to see no onlookers, as if there were no surveillance cameras. She quickly grabbed the yellow-haired guy’s wrist and dashed away from the crime scene.

After running several hundred meters, Lin Nan was out of breath. She couldn’t use her mediocre magic in front of him, fearing it would expose her shallow skills.

She looked up, glaring at the yellow-haired guy. “Are you brain-dead or something?!”

“I just wanted to test the strength…” he mumbled.

“Now you’re gonna pay for that!”

What’s wrong with this guy?! Who sees something new and thinks, “Hey, let’s see how strong it is!”?

Lin Nan was fuming and her tone grew serious: “I’ll tell you! From now on, if you see anything, you can only look, not touch! No messing around! Unless I hand it to you!”

“Otherwise, you can just roll back home!”

The yellow-haired guy sheepishly nodded, tucking his chin in.

But his curious gaze remained, and soon he spotted a small roadside tree.

The unremarkable tree had no magical aura; it was just planted there, with no clear purpose.

Unbeknownst to Lin Nan, he reached out and yanked a leaf off, stuffing it into his mouth.

Yikes, that was inedible.

After walking nearly a kilometer, the yellow-haired guy noticed an increase in foot traffic up ahead.

The humans in this world were rather fragile and lacked magic, weaker than a newborn baby from his world.

“Finally, we’re here.” Lin Nan looked at the restaurant sign, grumbling, “Cousin totally duped me; he said it was close.”

Passersby noticed the yellow-haired young man with long yellow hair and gave him a disdainful glance, moving away. To most people, youths with bizarrely colored hair were usually troublemakers.

They might also be artsy types.

“You stay here and don’t move; I…”

“Go buy oranges?” the yellow-haired guy chimed in. “What does that mean?”

Lin Nan obviously wouldn’t explain the whole ‘markup’ thing, so she merely nodded and waved him off. “It means I’m getting you food.”

With that, she stepped inside to start packing some meals.

Fast food prices in the countryside were slightly higher than at school, but not by much; it was still manageable.

Not knowing how much they would eat, Lin Nan ordered a bunch, worried that not catering enough would lead to grumbles.

After roaming around the store, she sadly called out to the yellow-haired guy to take two big bags of food. “Let’s go back.”

“Are those things they’re holding, smartphones?” the yellow-haired guy asked, trailing behind her like a curious baby.

“Yep.”

“I see your outfits are quite revealing?”

Lin Nan paused, glancing at where he was looking, spotting a girl in a short skirt. “It’s not that crazy; people dress lightly in this heat.”

“What a nice place.” The yellow-haired guy stared at the girl’s exposed legs, almost unable to pull his gaze away.

Whether in another world or Earth, it seemed all men were perverts.

Though to be fair, that girl did have great legs.

Lin Nan couldn’t help but stare a bit longer before glancing down at her own legs, covered by baggy pants, pouting.

Not as hot as those, that’s for sure.

“Let’s go,” she called out, turning back the way they came.

The yellow-haired guy obediently followed, still chattering away, “That thing in the sky—is that what you call the sun? The book said it’s a star? What’s a star?”

“What’s that outfit made of? It looks comfy and light.”

“How is a smartphone made? Why does it light up?”

“Why aren’t you talking to me?”

I’m not a walking encyclopedia! How could I possibly know everything?!

The first few questions could be quickly Googled for simple answers, but who knows how a smartphone is made? No way would a Google search clarify that!

Lin Nan, uninterested in his incessant questioning, turned back to see him squatting down, observing ants on the ground as if they were the most exciting thing in the world.

“What kind of creature is this?”

“Are you nuts?!”

Lin Nan cursed, “Let’s go! Don’t you see everyone’s staring at you like you’re an idiot?!”

Setting me up to look like your mental guardian!

Fortunately, the yellow-haired guy had been warned before coming not to use magic; otherwise, she’d really have difficulty controlling the situation.

And that was just one guy. If all three of them came out from behind the mountain…

It was unimaginable what a scene that would be.
