I Don’t Want to Be Turned into a Girl by Magic – Chapter 587

597. Mom’s Going to Start a Business?【10/20】

==============================

“What? You’re going to set up a stall too?”

Sitting in the room, Lin Nan was taken aback, nearly dropping her phone.

Chen Yao turned around, looking confused at the startled Lin Nan.

“You want to sell food? Set up a stall with my class teacher?” Lin Nan was even more flabbergasted. “So you and him… oh, misunderstanding cleared up? Everything’s fine now?”

“What do you think of my class teacher?”

“Good guy? That’s it?”

She put down her phone and looked at Chen Yao, who was still staring at her.

“What’s up?”

Lin Nan twirled her hair, pondering for a moment before explaining, “Remember when I told my class teacher I wanted to set him up with my mom?”

“Uh-huh?”

“So this afternoon, my mom suddenly wanted to learn about my high school life and met with my class teacher for a meal.”

“When I called him, I didn’t explain clearly, and he took that meal as a blind date.”

Lin Nan sighed dramatically, “I thought it was fine; I mean, if it’s a blind date, let them have some space, right?”

“Turns out my mom got tricked into going to set up a stall.”

Chen Yao snorted with laughter, “Good, good!”

“Good my foot! Is there a shortage of food stalls on the walking street? Setting up a stall to sell food is bound to lose money, and she doesn’t even know how to cook!” Lin Nan flopped back onto the bed, and her pet lemon, which was busy fluffing its feathers on her lap, got so excited it scampered its way up her leg and ended up stepping right on her face.

What if Mom goes bankrupt? What will happen to my dowry?

No way! Am I going to have to save up for my own dowry?!

This is just too tragic!

The lemon’s claws accidentally left a tiny cut on her face, adding insult to injury for a despondent Lin Nan.

Great, I’m going to be disfigured.

She grabbed the lemon and tossed it into the air, but it joyfully flapped back down onto her.

“Mom!”

“??? ”

Lin Nan froze, propping herself up on her arms, staring wide-eyed at Chen Yao, who had turned back around again.

“Aren’t Xuanfeng parrots supposed to be mute?” Chen Yao asked curiously.

“Why am I suddenly a mom again?”

How can the thirty-day-old lemon already be talking?

Just moments ago, a downcast Lin Nan held the lemon on her finger, looking directly into its googly eyes.

“Come on, say it again.”

The lemon tilted its head at a ninety-degree angle, pondered for a moment, then flapped its wings and flew right onto Chen Yao’s head, wiggling its b*tt like it was settling into a cozy bird’s nest.

It then squinted at the computer screen, watching while Chen Yao’s character got pulverized by the Flame King Dragon, happily tugging at a few strands of his hair when it saw him get defeated.

In no time, Chen Yao was worried that his head would end up bald like Xiong Da’s.

Fine, maybe it has its own thoughts.

Lin Nan mused, “Could it be my magic is finally working?”

Before, the lemon was too young to make anything other than a single squeaky sound, so Lin Nan couldn’t tell much.

As it grew up, a Xuanfeng parrot’s sounds weren’t varied either, usually just learning to whistle. But the “Mom” it just squawked was exceptionally clear.

“Maybe?”

Could I open a pet training shop?

Even if I don’t open a shop, if I record the lemon talking and put it online, who knows? I might get a swarm of people throwing money at me asking for help training their birds.

Chen Yao was a video creator, and Lin Nan promptly assigned him this task.

If this goes well, maybe I could really save up for my own dowry.

No hope from Mom; ideally, if she sold the house for some cash and worked at the factory for a while, my dowry would’ve been no issue.

But now, with her thinking of starting a stall, who knows how much she’ll lose.

If she pushes it and opens a milk tea shop as well, it probably won’t be about losing some cash, but going into debt!

I hope the class teacher can talk her out of it.

There was a knock on the door, and the lemon, which had been playing on Chen Yao’s head, swiftly flew over to Lin Nan’s shoulder.

Lin Nan jumped off the bed, opened the door, and peered out to see her aunt sneakily looking inside after coming back from dinner, relieved when she didn’t spot the lemon.

“I brought you guys some late-night snacks. Your uncle specially made you crawfish.”

“Thank him for me!” Lin Nan flashed a sweet smile.

“No need, just enjoy it,” the aunt chuckled, nodding. “Do you want me to help you clean up? Where’s your bird?”

Hiding, of course.

Lin Nan flicked her hair aside, revealing the lemon hiding behind it.

Her hair had grown so long, touching her shoulders, that having a parrot hidden there was no big deal.

If we go by the natural growth speed, it shouldn’t be this long, but every time she unlocked a new level of magic, her hair got longer too.

The aunt jumped back in shock at the sudden appearance of the beaked creature, quickly handing the crawfish to Lin Nan while awkwardly saying, “It’s quite cute.”

“Told you!”

And smart too, it knows to hide when you don’t like it.

Speaking of annoying beaked creatures, isn’t that like the little sheep from the ‘Extreme Challenge’ show?

“Go eat; I still have to clean up,” the aunt said, closing the door behind her.

Lin Nan placed the crawfish on her desk, ready to tidy up the bedroom next.

Ever since a parrot moved into her room, it was Lin Nan’s sole responsibility to keep it clean; Chen Yao would help wipe the desk and air out the bedding occasionally.

“Finish cleaning before you eat that crawfish; don’t leave a mess everywhere.”

“Got it.” Chen Yao was lounging with his legs crossed, gaming away, not looking back at Lin Nan as he asked, “So did my class teacher and your mom hit it off or what?”

“Your what?!” Lin Nan kicked his leg in irritation, then considered the question seriously, “My class teacher seems fine with it; he was pretty proactive.”

“When I left, that’s when they were officially on the blind date, right? So, not sure. Anyway, mom said the class teacher is a good guy.”

“Well, that’s dead in the water.” Chen Yao relished the moment, “Looks like your class teacher is destined to stay single forever.”

But my mom can’t stay single forever.

Lin Nan started thinking about who among her acquaintances was in their forties, single or divorced.

But her social circle had nothing to do with people in their forties, so she opened the door and called out to the aunt who was sweeping outside, “Auntie, do you know any handsome guys in their forties who are still single?”

“Why? You trying to set your mom up again?” The aunt looked up, half-laughing, half-crying at Lin Nan. “Kids shouldn’t be worrying about this; let your mom sort it out.”

“I’m not a kid! I’m nineteen!”

Inside, Chen Yao nodded vigorously, “Not a kid at all! All grown and white!”
