Chapter 89: Seems Like I’ve Forgotten Something Important
Today’s live stream was just to show my face, and since it was getting late, I wrapped it up after about ten minutes.
But in just those ten minutes, I managed to rake in nearly a hundred thousand gold coins!
After I logged off, Xu Xiaoyue kept the live stream running. Well, that’s what I told her to do in a private message.
Why waste my own traffic, right? The future plan would be something like channels one and two. Channel one’s earnings go to me, while channel two splits earnings 70/30 in my favor.
“Little Sister, you’re young; just let me take the money. You can go earn more later!”
For Xu Xiaoyue, though, it wasn’t really about the money—she cared more about the people. She had already gained a lot today, so she just nodded at everything.
Thanks to her stunning looks, a bit of fame I had shared earlier, and the absolute traffic support from Nuclear Bomb Little Sister’s live stream, even without me around, a small group still tuned in.
And that group was a few thousand strong.
Later in the evening, just before I logged off, I even reminded her to slowly close the stream.
I removed my helmet and stretched out, letting out a big yawn.
“Mmm~”
Halfway through, though, I felt something was off.
“Hmm? Is that my voice?”
If before it felt like my throat was acting up, now this was clearly a different voice altogether.
I cleared my throat, making it surprisingly gruff: “Erm-hm! That’s more like it.”
What am I doing? What’s with this madness, forcing my voice like this?!
I held my head in my hands, deep in thought like an ostrich.
But before I could make sense of it, I noticed something off about my hands.
“Are my hands smaller? Do my fingers really look that skinny?”
Following that alarming thought, I looked down and saw long hair hanging in front of me.
Most of it was golden blonde; I’d actually have to sift through it to find the black strands.
As I processed all this, I realized something was seriously wrong…
“A mirror! I need to check a mirror!”
I leaped out of bed, slipped on my slippers, and dashed to the bathroom.
On the other side, Xu Xiaoyue had just opened her door and saw a figure dart into the bathroom.
“Huh? Big Brother?”
She followed and knocked on the tightly shut bathroom door: “Hey, what’s up? Why the rush?”
“Me… um-hm!” I flushed the toilet, lowering my voice, “Nothing! Just going to the bathroom, then I’ll hit the hay.”
“But I have something to tell you!”
“Let’s talk tomorrow. I’m tired today.”
“Er… how about we grab a bite first?”
“Tomorrow. Not hungry tonight.”
Xu Xiaoyue frowned, sensing that something was off.
“Well, I’ll wait for you. I’m just going to the bathroom myself, then I’ll sleep.”
“Do that tomorrow; today…”
“Big Brother! You’re acting weird! If something’s up, just tell me! What’s there to hide between us?”
“It’s nothing, just—I played too many games and now my brain’s a bit scrambled. Don’t think too much about it.”
“Oh, fine. I’ll just go then.”
Finally relieved, I thought, “Phew! I’ve managed to handle her for now.”
I began examining my body carefully.
First off, the most obvious change: my hair.
Not only had it grown longer, but most of it was now dyed gold, with hardly any black visible.
Secondly, it seemed like my body had shrunk a bit; my limbs and frame were smaller.
Fortunately, my height was mostly the same, which meant the slight shrinkage required a keen eye to notice.
That meant if I threw on some loose clothing, it would be hard to tell.
The hair could cover it, and if anyone pointed it out, I’d just say I dyed it.
But the most troublesome part was—my voice. It was way too high-pitched.
“Might as well wear a mask and pretend I have a cold. Just keep the talking to a minimum unless necessary, and use a breathy voice when I do. Nobody will really notice.”
But the biggest question remained—why?
Why the heck did this happen?!
I recalled the last time during a breakthrough in the game. Back then, I had a similar feeling of a huge change in my body, even blacking out at one point.
Could it be related to the game?
No way…
Although this game is truly unique, the world within it feels completely real, and there’s this inexplicable magic…
Forget about it, I’m getting too tangled up here!
I slammed my fist down on the sink in frustration.
BAM!
That felt off…
Confused, I blinked and looked down at the sink.
There were fissures appearing, and the spot where I slammed my fist had a crater the size of my fist!
Holy cow!!!
I quickly stepped back, eyeing my right fist.
My right fist looked shiny and new—no pain whatsoever!
Suddenly, I had a thought and began to shadow box in the bathroom.
“Battle technique one, thrust!”
“Wrong.”
“Battle technique two, smash!”
“Still wrong.”
“Battle technique six, charge!”
“None of these are right.”
I tried the entire basic sequence of the Golden Battle Technique, but nothing worked as I had imagined.
So, what? I’m just a little stronger, that’s all?
I had a ridiculous thought bounce around my mind, but I couldn’t confirm it just yet.
But the one target for my questions sprang to mind—my system.
Today, I’d storm in there crying, begging, and kneeling if I had to to get this sorted out.
Fuming, I swung the bathroom door open, ready to log back into the game.
“Hey, Big Brother, what are you up to in there? Making all that noise?”
“AHH!”
Xu Xiaoyue grinned: “Heh, that surprised yelp of yours is pretty cute.”
“You… weren’t you supposed to be sleeping?”
“I felt something was off, so of course, I had to find out… Oh wow! Your hair!”
I quickly covered my head, but there was no stopping it.
“Such pretty hair! How did you end up with such gorgeous locks?”
Xu Xiaoyue grabbed some strands and inspected them closely, running her fingers through them: “Big Brother has such good taste. Where’d you dye it while I wasn’t looking?”
“Don’t worry about it. I… I’m heading to bed now.”
“Wait! Let me see!”
“I’m tired.”
“Well, when I get up tomorrow, I’ll style your hair!”
“Definitely don’t!”
“Yep, I definitely will!”
“Fine, fine, time for bed, time for bed.”
I finally managed to fend off my sister and dashed back into my room, locking the door behind me.
Finally grabbing my helmet, I entered the game again.
Ding ding! The loli makes her dazzling entrance!
I stared at the cozy blankets covering me and tilted my head: “Huh? Why did I log into the game?”
“Is there something I need to ask?”
“Uh… Is Sister Tong here?”
“She is.”
“It seems like I wanted to ask you something, but I completely forgot.”
“…”
I knocked on my head: “Maybe I didn’t sleep enough and my brain’s all fuzzy?”
“Then maybe just wash up and sleep.”
“Okay, sounds good!”
I logged out, washed up, and hit the sack.
