Chapter 95: Can a Real Scam Be Called a Scam?
After reminding her subordinates to remember Little Moon’s appearance, if she comes again next time, just ignore her, Xu Xiaofeng returned to Emerald City.
Not long after she got back, a private message notification chimed.
She thought it was her little sister running into trouble, but to her surprise, it was a message from Fat Wang.
“Brother Feng, I’m level ten now! I’m in the main city! Please take me with you!!!”
Take you with me? Xu Xiaofeng initially wanted to respond with that. But after a moment’s thought, she deleted her reply.
First off, Fat Wang has money, and she definitely couldn’t waste that.
Additionally, since she was so famous, showing up as a player could easily attract trouble, but sometimes appearing as an NPC wasn’t convenient either.
In this case, maybe it was best to find a lackey.
Her little sister could handle matters related to her NPC identity, and Fat Wang could deal with things concerning her player identity. Perfect match!
And most importantly, she couldn’t keep avoiding Little Moon forever; there would be a time when they had to meet.
When that time comes, how would she explain herself?
She needed a rehearsal, and that thick-headed Fat Wang was just the right candidate for it.
Compared to scamming that clever little sister, wasn’t scamming this thick-headed fat guy much easier?
“Fat Wang, I can’t show my face in public right now. I’ll let you know once I find a place to meet up.”
“Okay, Brother Feng, you’re really my godfather!”
“Let’s not call it godfather, that sounds weird. How about we call you my sugar dad instead?”
“Let’s stick with brother; it feels more friendly.”
Xu Xiaofeng did a swirl and finally decided on Grandpa Ryan’s tavern as the meeting place.
Actually, it’s one of the Dark Moon Knight Order’s bases, but Xu Xiaofeng had no clue.
After returning home and tidying up her outfit, she even took two wooden blocks about eight inches high and strapped them to her feet to practice walking for a few minutes.
Thanks to her powerful spatial talent, she quickly adapted to the elevated walking style.
“Whoa, my perspective is higher now, and walking feels really good!”
But sadly, that glorious moment was short-lived.
All preparations complete, she draped a stealth cloak over herself and slipped into the tavern through the back door.
“Hey there, can you book me a room? Make it a bit discreet, please.”
“Huh? Oh, it’s you, miss. Sure, just a moment.”
Xu Xiaofeng sent the detailed address to Fat Wang, then waited quietly, a bit nervously.
Wang Xinghao struggled through the address and finally found the place after tremendous effort.
“A tavern in such an out-of-the-way spot? Aren’t they worried about going bankrupt?”
He muttered quietly and then approached, “Hey there, I’m looking for your boss; I need him to whip up a dish for me.”
The attendant’s eyes sharpened: “What dish?”
“Uh, let me see… boiled white dew?”
“Cough cough…” the attendant suddenly coughed, suppressing a slightly raised smile. “Please follow me.”
He led Wang Xinghao to the door, then spontaneously left.
Wang Xinghao tilted his head and pushed the door open. “Brother Feng, are you in?”
Inside the private room, Xu Xiaofeng had sensed the door opening and the moment Wang Xinghao entered, the first thing she saw was a huge ID hovering above his head—”What Are You Staring At.”
Yep, that’s Fat Wang’s game ID. Very unique!
She remembered having a similar ID in another game before and got pounced on eight times in a day in the wild.
“Shut the door.”
This line was typed by Xu Xiaofeng in the nearby chat channel, which appeared as a dialogue box above her character model.
“Uh…” Wang Xinghao froze but complied anyway.
“Brother Feng, can I get an order of boiled white dew? By the way, did you misspell the word ‘dew’?”
Then, Wang Xinghao saw her pour him a cup of plain water.
Alright, no spelling error; it actually is dew water.
“Brother Feng, why all the mystery? This is so spy-like.”
Funny enough, when Xu Xiaofeng came here the first time, she had the same feeling.
“Let’s get to the point. My time is precious.”
Still using the dialogue box mode.
“Brother Feng, can’t you speak? This typing is exhausting.”
Xu Xiaofeng had to keep quiet; if she spoke, that loli voice would never fit the situation!
“Character class setting: mute.”
“Wait!!! Brother Feng, did you hit the hidden class jackpot?!”
You bet! But this hidden class is a bit lame.
“What class? Any special powers?”
“Word Spirit, control type.”
“Mute Word Spirit? Sounds totally reasonable! Because the ability is too powerful, your voice gets sealed. When three years are up, the Dragon King awakens!”
Not… are you seriously mixing up your imagination now?
Xu Xiaofeng could only send three dots.
“Bro, give us a demonstration of your ability!”
Xu Xiaofeng thought for a moment, glanced at the cup on the table. With a subtle flick of her hand hidden in her cloak, the cup floated into the air.
“Awesome! Word Spirit is freaking amazing!”
Actually, it was just a basic spatial manipulation.
“So, Brother Feng, why are you wrapped up like this? If it weren’t just you here, I’d hardly recognize you. You don’t even have your ID showing!”
Xu Xiaofeng immediately provided the reply she had prepared earlier: “I joined a secret organization, and I need to hide my identity.”
“Whoa! You infiltrated the NPCs, didn’t you?!”
“…”
Well, she kinda did!
She could only nod.
“No wonder this meeting feels like a secret agent rendezvous. So… can I join?”
“For sure! One of the reasons I’m here today is to invite you to join. I’ve recommended you to the higher-ups. If you agree, you can be considered my subordinate right away.”
“Why subordinate?”
“What, you want to climb over me? If not, forget it.”
“No, no, no, Brother Feng, I’m in. Being a subordinate is great too!”
“Good to know; others really don’t get this chance.”
Xu Xiaofeng felt a wave of relief. Now, two of her objectives had been accomplished.
Xu Xiaofeng was thrilled, and Fat Wang was just as ecstatic.
A secret unit, like some shadow assassin? How cool is that!
Everyone has a bit of that “chuunibyou” spirit; who doesn’t want to secretly control everything from the shadows?
From this day on, Wang Xinghao would no longer be just an ordinary player but a player with an NPC background!
In other words… an insider among players.
Congratulations!
“Brother Feng, now that it’s just the two of us, do you really have to wrap up like that?”
“This is an organization policy. What? You doubt me because we’re so close?”
“No, no, no, how could I? You’re my dear brother. Just asking, can I get this kind of outfit?”
“Nope.”
“What? So I don’t have to follow the organization’s rules?”
“You’re different. In our group, you’re in the open, and I’m in the dark. It makes things easier.”
“Why am I in the open? I’m not doing it!”
“Not doing it? Then get lost.”
Xu Xiaofeng didn’t coddle him at all.
“Not… that I can’t do it, but can you get me an outfit like that? It looks so cool!”
“No! That outfit costs thousands of gold coins. You think it’s cabbage?”
“That expensive?!”
“Or what?”
Even though Xu Xiaofeng was getting it for free, she wasn’t sure how expensive it actually was.
“This is settled. No backing out. Otherwise, you’ll bear the consequences, and I can’t save you.”
“Fine…”
Though Xu Xiaofeng didn’t tell a single truth throughout the conversation and purely scammed him, in terms of results, she wasn’t wrong!
She did have a hidden class, her abilities could control, and she had indeed infiltrated the NPCs. Here she was, right in the headquarters of the secret organization.
And of course, she formed a little team, pulling Fat Wang in was just for convenience.
Every word she said came straight from the heart.
