Chapter 160: The Wind God’s Three Hobbies
“Achoo!”
Yuliya suddenly sneezed.
She casually tossed aside the junk dropped by the monster she just defeated and rubbed her nose.
“What’s the deal? Just a whiff of mist and I catch a cold?”
She found herself trapped in troublesome white fog.
Her resistance was pretty good; she could stay in the mist way longer than most. She even discovered that the Holy Light pendant she picked up in Black Raven City had some use here.
“Ah, praise the Holy Light.”
Yuliya had also tried blowing the mist away, but it dispersed quickly and regenerated even faster. The moment she blew it away, it felt like the fog was waiting to rush back in, as if it had a designated area.
Wherever there was fog, fog still remained. Where there was none, it stayed that way for a long time. Even if she ran far away from the main group and made a massive crater with a bomb, the fog still stuck around like an unwelcome guest.
“Tsk, an unchangeable landscape? Is this targeting me again?”
Sister Tong, are you watching me destroy formations too much and decided to hotfix the whole area?
Of course, that was just her inner theatrics.
Just as Yuliya was about to take her leave, she glanced at the ground one last time out of the corner of her eye.
Suddenly, she stopped in her tracks.
She turned around to look at the massive crater she had created.
“Did I just bomb a pit like this?”
She distinctly remembered blowing up the ground to see if she could clear the mist permanently, so logically, the pit should be completely shrouded in fog.
But now, it seemed like a corner was peeking out.
Yuliya was confident in her control; the crater shouldn’t be messed up. But since the edge of the mist was thin, it might look different close up versus far away, so she decided to wait a bit longer.
Finally, after waiting until half of the crater was exposed, she was convinced that the mist was shifting.
On the surface, the mist seemed impossible to disperse and eternally fixed, but in reality, it was moving slowly.
Yuliya had just waited three minutes and the mist had shifted about a meter.
Very slow, hardly chasing anyone.
So what was the purpose of this change?
Yuliya slapped her forehead, sighing.
Direction!
This place was subtly altering everyone’s sense of direction!
In this forest, the trees looked almost identical, with a ridiculously high similarity, while overhead loomed the eternally unchanged massive crescent moon.
The only way for the players to figure out direction was to reference the mist, which varied significantly in different areas.
Of course, players often marked the trunks of trees, but any minor deviation in those markings could easily go unnoticed.
With three minutes for just a meter, in half an hour that would be ten meters, equating to about a 10-degree deviation in overall direction.
But players wouldn’t just be in the forest for half an hour—they’d be here for over ten hours at a conservative estimate.
If they kept this up, they might end up going in circles.
“This is a real hassle!”
Yuliya pondered with her chin resting on her hand.
She had figured out the situation, but other players had neither her awareness nor her abilities. Who knew how long it would take for them to realize it?
“I seriously need to find a way to warn those fools. I’m just… sigh… so great.”
Yuliya began brainstorming for the dummies.
Since the core reason for the directional drift was the lack of reference points, all she needed to do was create some reference points for them.
How to create them?
Simple! She’d make a big fuss, blowing up a few massive craters that could be seen for kilometers and flattening some trees in the process.
If they still couldn’t figure out direction, well, perfect—those craters could just become their graves!
Yuliya sprang into action.
In the live room, the viewers were buzzing as they watched her bustling around.
“What’s the Wind God doing? Is she burying bombs?”
“Big bombs! Massive bombs!”
“Why is she burying bombs for no reason?”
“I get it, she’s luring the snakes out of their holes!”
“Who brings snakes out like that! Oh, it’s the Wind God, never mind.”
As everyone knew, the Wind God had three major hobbies: fishing and playing chess, luring snakes out and blowing things up, and spying and eavesdropping. Whenever she pulled a stunt that left folks scratching their heads, it definitely leaned towards one of those three!
Everything was ready, and Yuliya hid to the side before snapping her fingers.
In the next moment, a loud bang echoed through the quiet, chilly forest, accompanied by a shower of debris shooting up into the air, catching the attention of everyone nearby.
Before anyone could react, the second boom followed, then the third.
“What’s going on?!”
Fiery Conflict waved his hand, halting the team to send people to investigate.
Not long after, the scout returned with news.
“Explosion? What monster did that?”
Since Fiery Conflict had gotten lucky and entered the first city, Ashen City, he was completely clueless about what was happening, but many in the team did know.
Yuliya had soloed six cities’ BOSSes, and the ruckus from each BOSS battle was nothing short of earth-shattering. Any player who ventured a little deeper into the city would have heard it.
As the commotion escalated, everyone initially thought it was a monster acting up, but when they saw the map light up, they realized someone was spawning a BOSS.
And who could that someone be?
“The Wind God! It has to be the Wind God! Only she could cause such a ruckus!”
“I remember when I was in White Snow City; the noise from the BOSS area in the center was even louder than this. After the ruckus died down, we went to check it out, and it was a total disaster.”
Everyone started chattering, concluding the situation.
Meanwhile, their spirits lifted considerably.
With the Wind God around, they were golden!
Fiery Conflict listened to the buzz and felt a mix of sourness and bitterness.
Here she was, casually making a commotion that drew a reaction like this, while he was struggling and striving just to get a decent response.
What a gap!
Sourness aside, he quickly adjusted his attitude.
With the Wind God’s strength, it was unlikely she’d encounter any trouble here.
This was merely the outskirts of the Illusion Forest; if she needed to make such a fuss just to deal with danger here, what sort of formidable foes lurked deeper in?
Maybe they’d all just have to pack it in and go home!
“All troops advance! Let’s go check it out.”
As they proceeded, another thunderous explosion resonated.
“All troops accelerate!”
Yuliya was still blowing things up, and after the fifth blast, the surrounding mist began swirling inward.
Seeing this, Yuliya’s heart leapt.
Oh? Getting anxious, are we?
Great!
She pulled back and relaxed.
Initially, she was worried those dummies wouldn’t understand her intentions, but now that the mist was behaving like it was ready to give up the ghost, wasn’t this a win-win?
From here on, it was no longer her problem; it was up to the main force.
What was this move called?
Uh… she could also call it luring snakes out.
Nailed it.
