Chapter 287: The Little Girl Selling the Uncle
After receiving Edward’s response, Griphis looked up and started to ponder, “Let me think…”
“Alright, Your Majesty, there’s no need to rush. If you discover anything, please let me know. Our findings will also be communicated to you.”
“Naturally, we are the strongest of allies. But what you mentioned today—I’ve never noticed that before.”
Neither had I…
Edward sighed internally.
Not long after this round of conversation, Griphis left, leaving Alisa here to entertain the guest.
Edward had Alisa take a look at the book “Jadeite Ten Swords,” while he pulled Yuliya into the house.
“Hey, kiddo, what are you up to? I bet you have some ideas, huh?”
“I’m not up to anything, just chatting like we were,” Yuliya protested.
Sure, chatting is all well and good, but it was those two old uncles talking, and she threw in a couple of lines.
Yuliya looked somewhat pitiful.
“Spare me! You might fool Griphis, but not me! I know your reputation too well!”
They had both been scammed and suffered enough.
Once bitten, twice shy—now Edward was not letting anything slip by him.
As everyone knows, little girls are masters at leaving half the story out, relying on their innocent appearance to wiggle through.
“Alright then, talking to the uncle isn’t a problem.”
“Call me ‘Teacher.’”
“Okay, Teacher.” Yuliya shrugged.
“Teacher also knows I have some unusual memories, especially after visiting the Golden City. Everything I just mentioned was discovered there. There are plenty of outsiders from various places.”
“After observing them, I found they have a lot in common with us. I’m trying to figure out these curiosities.”
Edward nodded, resting his chin on his hand. “And then what?”
“And then…,” Yuliya tilted her head, pacing around, “maybe I want to use their powers more formally and fully.”
“Use their powers? They’re not particularly strong.”
“But they grow really fast.”
Like a sudden realization, Edward froze.
That’s right! Their growth speed is ludicrously rapid!
The outsiders only appeared a few months ago, and back then, they were basically at the Black Iron Level.
And now, just a short time later, a significant part of them had leaped up to Silver Level and were charging toward Gold Level.
At this rate, within a year, you’d have outsiders surpassing Gold Level and reaching Emerald Level.
By then, that power could stir up a storm.
What would happen after that? Edward didn’t even dare to think.
“Have you really thought this through?”
“Because I’m quite familiar with the outsiders. I understand a lot more than you all do. It’s never too early to prepare. What would we do when their power truly grows?”
“Even if they do nothing, just being in the Jade Emperor Kingdom would leave many, especially those old-school nobles, in a tizzy.”
“You’re right.” Edward nodded heavily.
“Also, there’s something you might not know, but Elia does. The outsiders have strong and unique magic, or rather, technology. I’m considering the possibility of combining it with our own.”
So, is tech the path to national prosperity?
“Have you discussed any of this with Elia?”
“Not yet. My thoughts still have lots of gaps, and I’ll find a chance to tell her when I’ve sorted them out.”
“Fine by me. You have good judgment on major matters; I won’t meddle.”
Edward sighed heavily.
Surely…even though it’s sometimes a headache, this student was quite a find!
Suddenly, Edward thought of something and stared intently at Yuliya.
Sure, the outsiders were growing fast, but there was one person who was growing even faster!
Even with a legacy or reincarnation memories, it shouldn’t be this rapid-fire ascent.
With such a massive population, there are bound to be a handful of reincarnators, and they’ve only been slightly faster than the average person he’s heard of.
“Teacher, what’s wrong? Why are you staring at me?”
“Nothing.”
Edward shook his head and looked away.
“So this is your goal for coming here?”
“No, no, no! I primarily just wanted to help my sister. The rest is just a bonus.”
“Hehe…”
Edward smiled without saying a word, completely aware of the situation.
No wonder, no wonder.
As they stepped outside, they saw Alisa still immersed in studying that sword technique book.
Yuliya leaned in closer. “Alisa, how’s it going?”
Alisa frowned in distress. “It’s a bit profound; I still need to look over it.”
“No worries! After all, it’s Teacher’s material; of course, it’s going to be complex. You can ask Teacher if you have any questions.”
Alisa looked a bit thrilled, first at Yuliya, then over at Edward. “Really?!”
Edward:…
Why are you asking me? Can’t you ask her? You gave her this gift!
“Of course, no problem, right, Teacher?” Yuliya nudged Edward’s side.
Edward awkwardly yet politely smiled, “Yes, of course.”
“Thank you, Lord Edward! And thank you, Sister Yuliya!”
Yuliya smiled and nodded, then winked at Alisa.
Alisa was taken aback but quickly returned an even bigger smile, winking back.
Sister Yuliya really is a great person!
No wonder Father likes her; I like her too!
That useless Father—he takes forever to get things done. Yuliya manages to sort it out so easy!
“Alisa, is it a good time to take us to the library? We want to learn about the history of the Verdant Empire, like I mentioned to His Majesty.”
“Sure!”
Alisa grabbed Yuliya’s hand, and the two walked ahead while Edward trailed behind.
Watching the two girls quickly bonding made Edward sigh; this little girl is really impressive.
She’s definitely a social butterfly, always standing out wherever she goes. Elia’s title of “Shining Sun” really fits!
But I wonder what those two are secretly giggling about, glancing back at him every now and then.
Two girls sharing secrets, and here’s this big ol’ guy left out of the loop!
Oh well, they are both princesses from a close allied nation; it’s nice to have good relationships.
All Edward could do was follow along with a smile, neither too close nor too far.
What he didn’t know was that he was about to be sold.
Right now, he was in the phase of being sold and counting the money for someone else!
