Chapter 395: Change
Yuliya was really just trying to scare people; she didn’t have the skills yet to find Little Li some good food.
But then, she suddenly remembered something.
With a flick of her right hand, she pulled out a small black ball.
The spirit of the Wolf God.
Can this little thing be given to Little Li?
As soon as she saw the ball, Little Li looked notably excited, letting out an enthusiastic squeak.
Looks like it really works!
Yuliya thought for a moment, then cut the ball in half and handed one piece to Little Li.
She tucked the other half away for safekeeping.
The Dream God Ayelus had said this thing was useful and might come in handy later.
There was no rush to use it anyway.
Speaking of which, Ayelus had said they would come looking for her.
Could it be that the Dragon God had already come looking, but Ayelus hadn’t?
She kind of wanted to give him a good ruffle.
Sure, Little Li was also enjoyable to ruffle, but come on, I have two hands! I could ruffle one in each!
Watching Little Li happily munch away on her half of the ball, the God of Truth curiously asked, “Isn’t this the spirit of Fenrir? Have you already had your encounter with it?”
“Not sure, but it should be, right?!”
“Having too many enemies is no good, you know? Especially with a lineage like Fenrir’s. Individually, they might not be too strong, but when they band together, they have quite the influence.”
Yuliya raised an eyebrow, “Are you saying I could also find allies?”
“Uh… big sister, don’t look at me like that. I really don’t want to get involved, and I don’t have the power to do so either.”
“Then tell me who can participate, and I’ll go find them.”
The God of Truth shut his mouth and shook his head vigorously.
Could he do that? That would basically be helping her!
Plus, leading others around was akin to selling them out—definitely something that could stir some serious anger.
“I can only say that a whole bunch of gods are completely neutral and don’t want to participate. We just want to earn a living.”
Yuliya sighed, not wanting to push him too hard.
She could tell this guy was really timid.
If she pressed him too much, he might run off.
Honestly, that would be kind of embarrassing… for a deity.
“Well then, let’s talk about this country,” Yuliya straightened up. “After all, this is the territory of my Human Race. You want to be here, that’s fine, but if you’re going to absorb the belief power from my people, you need to give something in return.”
Yuliya had her reasons for saying this.
This was just a tiny country with relatively weak power.
Around it lay a vast monster territory; if a monster riot occurred, this little country could easily get wiped off the map.
The only reason it had managed to exist for so long was probably due to the God of Truth’s influence.
If he bolted, this country would likely go down the drain pretty quickly.
“Ugh…” The God of Truth let out a heavy sigh.
Knew it—nothing good would come from it.
But at this point, it was the best outcome he could hope for.
“I’ve seen the rules of this church; they’re a bit ridiculous. They need changing.”
“Wait! Those rules weren’t set by me; they were set by this country’s king.”
“Ah?”
The God of Truth began telling the tale of the church’s birth and development.
After listening, Yuliya was utterly speechless.
Turns out, all those absurd rules were established by the previous king for his own convenience in ruling.
Crime peaks at night?
So, after dark, everyone should just stay indoors.
Fighting and hurting people?
Then ban all forms of violence.
Lying leads to confusion and difficulty in discernment?
So everyone must speak only the truth.
In short, whenever there’s a problem, just cut everything out entirely, thus eliminating the possibility of anything happening.
With this logic, surely they could build a harmonious and kind country, right?
Pfft! It was just an excuse to be lazy, so everything got banned.
And the outcome? Crime was indeed rare.
People just tried not to talk, did nothing, and stood around aimlessly!
Outside efforts? Nixed!
The citizens’ struggles? Nixed!
The country’s development? Nixed!
What an eye-opener, seriously an eye-opener.
Yuliya internally cursed the previous king.
But then again, thinking about it, while they were indeed slacking off a bit, it didn’t seem like it was worse than some of the historically questionable decisions made by rulers back on Blue Star.
Like setting fires and messing with pig heads, or issuing commands based purely on personal whims.
Slacking was still better than inflicting actual harm.
And this God of Truth seemed to think this wasn’t the type of faith he required, right?
Without a second thought, he agreed.
And here we are, with the current state of the country resembling a stagnant pond.
Maybe I’m overstepping?
Yuliya couldn’t help but wonder.
She had always held the belief of respecting others’ choices.
Letting go of the need to help and respecting others’ fates.
If the changes in the country were due to the influence of gods and demons, Yuliya would have to intervene.
But if the Human Race had chosen this path, then she had no say in it.
Compared to other races, the defining trait of humans was their capacity for independent thought.
Sighing, Yuliya said, “I’ll take another look.”
“Alright then.”
The God of Truth hoped she would leave soon— the sooner, the better.
With Yuliya and her Golden Devourer around, the pressure was intense.
“Why don’t you accompany me for a stroll?”
“…”
“What’s wrong, you unwilling?”
“Not at all, how could that be? I’m more than happy to help.”
Yuliya patted Little Li and sent her back to her pocket to munch away.
Yuliya roamed around the town.
The atmosphere of the citizens left a huge impression: silent and calm.
There were too many prohibitions; to avoid breaking the rules, they could only choose to do very little.
The more they did, the more mistakes they’d make.
Plus, with the God of Truth’s influence, anyone who broke the rules pretty much had no chance of escaping.
Just when Yuliya was about to leave, abruptly, some church personnel approached her.
“Your Grace, the King and the Cardinal from the royal city have come to see you.”
Yuliya asked directly, “Me? What’s the matter?”
“They wished to… hear your insights on doctrines and commands.”
Yuliya paused for a moment, then suddenly realized she had been labeled as a supervising angel…
As for insights? Just one word: trash!
“We’ll head over right away.”
Yuliya immediately followed them back to the church.
With the guidance of the others, she arrived at the church’s assembly hall to meet the king and the top-ranking cardinal.
Yuliya dragged the God of Truth in alongside her and said as she entered, “I’ve been watching for quite a while in the streets. To be honest, I’m a bit disappointed with the current state of the country and the church. What do you think?”
The king and the cardinal exchanged glances. “Your Grace speaks truly; we feel there’s something amiss as well. Would Your Grace be able to convey that to the God?”
Hearing this, Yuliya smiled. Looks like not all kings were okay with this kind of nonsense.
“No need to report; I have the authority to order corrections.”
She glanced at the God of Truth beside her.
He nodded silently.
And thus began the modification of this mountain of foolish regulations.
